Chapter 47: Chapter 48: Alice!
Chapter 48: Alice!
Chang Wei didn't make a move; he was waiting for Alice, the so-called most perfect T-virus host.
Jill and Peyton turned on their tactical flashlights but only caught a glimpse of a blood-red shadow flashing by. Its speed was so fast that they couldn't clearly see what it was, but they were certain it wasn't anything good.
"Bang!"
Peyton, slightly agitated by the T-virus, couldn't hold back any longer in this oppressive, dark environment and fired a shot. However, the gunshot hit nothing but air, making Jill inwardly curse the bad timing.
"This place is too open. Let's retreat to the side door!"
She hurriedly pulled Peyton along. Sometimes, the most dangerous enemies for beasts are the ones they can't understand. However, by firing recklessly, they had already alerted the monsters to their threat.
The church hall was too vast, devoid of any cover. Relying on just two small handguns to defend this space was nothing short of a dream.
What Jill hadn't anticipated was encountering such monsters. She initially thought they would only face slow-moving zombies, and under those circumstances, her handgun and ammunition would have been sufficient for self-defense.
Yet now, as her ammo ran low, it became painfully obvious that she had prioritized style over practicality.
Otherwise, her "four-dimensional pocket" should at least have been able to hold a thousand rounds of handgun ammunition, right?
"Father, is there anywhere sturdy around here?"
Jill tightly grasped Chang Wei's hand as she asked.
"I don't know. I'm not the priest here. You can call me… Dante."
Chang Wei thought for a moment and gave himself an English name. After all, they could clearly see he was of Asian descent.
"You're not the priest here?" Peyton exclaimed in shock.
"No, I'm just here for fun," Chang Wei replied casually.
"No time for that now! Hide first!" Jill urged, feeling the urgency of the moment. They could chat all they wanted later.
The group then ran into an elderly, bald priest.
The old priest was surprised to see so many "meals" delivering themselves to him. He quickly greeted them warmly while giving Chang Wei, clad in his all-white outfit, a few extra glances.
All those fancy, mismatched clothes—could he be one of those so-called heretics from some new sect? The old priest immediately felt this was divine guidance, a sign that the Lord approved of his actions and had sent a heretic directly to him.
"Father, there are monsters outside. Do you have anywhere sturdy we can hide?" Jill asked urgently.
"Don't worry, child. This is the Lord's sanctuary…" the old priest replied with a pious expression, leaving Jill speechless.
Just then, the Lickers couldn't hold back anymore. After all, Chang Wei hadn't intimidated them. To them, these people were nothing but fresh meat, more tempting than the corpse outside.
"Roar!"
One of the creatures rammed into the door, breaking it open. Only after Jill and Peyton fired frantically did they manage to drive the bloody and battered monster back. The old priest was instantly stunned.
Monsters really existed! He had thought Jill and the others were referring to zombies, but now he realized it was these demonic creatures straight out of hell.
"Lord above!"
Before the old priest could finish his exclamation, a Licker's tongue shot out like lightning, wrapped around his neck, and dragged him outside.
Jill and Peyton rushed to save him, but another Licker emerged, forcing them to retreat.
At this critical moment, the roaring sound of a motorcycle engine echoed through the air. That powerful, street-shaking noise instantly signaled the arrival of a high-performance machine.
She's here!
Chang Wei's long-awaited target, the perfect prototype of the T-virus, had arrived! Not some low-level creatures like the Lickers or zombies. Unless he ventured into the desert to find the clone of that doctor who seemingly developed the G-virus in the movie world, none of this could compare. Even Wesker's Ouroboros virus, with its teleportation and headshot immunity, didn't interest him much. Chang Wei could already teleport more effortlessly than Wesker.
Jill and Peyton, startled by the engine noise, turned to see the stained-glass window of the Virgin Mary shatter. A blond, perfectly-featured woman rode her motorcycle as she leapt from above, landing gracefully on the ground. She executed a sharp spin, bringing the bike to a dramatic halt.
The Lickers, drawn by the sound, immediately charged at Alice.
Alice was momentarily surprised to see so many Lickers in one place, wondering what could have drawn them here. However, she remained unflustered, calmly pulling out two MP5 submachine guns from her waist and opening fire on the creatures.
The Lickers tried to dodge, but the bullets still tore through them, spraying blood everywhere.
Alice's neural reflexes allowed her to match the Lickers' speed, achieving such precision. For Jill and Peyton, even with an entire arsenal at their disposal, nine out of ten shots would likely miss.
The two Lickers, riddled with bullets, collapsed to the ground, leaving bloody trails as they slid past Alice.
Soon, two more Lickers coordinated to attack, one from the front and one from behind. Unfazed, Alice hurled her motorcycle at one of them.
