Chapter 48: Chapter 49: Obtaining the Perfect T Virus
Chapter 49: Obtaining the Perfect T Virus
After a flashy series of moves, Alice took down four Lickers. The remaining four, seemingly intimidated by her, chose to flee.
In truth, it was Chang Wei who was scaring them.
"Who exactly are you?"
After witnessing Alice's extraordinary display, Jill showed no courtesy and directly questioned her.
Alice found Jill's abrupt and unreasonable attitude puzzling but decided not to bother. Having just awakened from her slumber, Alice's priority was to leave the area as quickly as possible.
"This place is dangerous. The Lickers have targeted you. More of them will come," Alice warned the group.
She was acutely aware of how many Lickers resided in the underground Hive—easily over a hundred. Now that they had all escaped, the grim reality was evident.
The Red Queen had even mentioned that regular zombies could potentially evolve into Lickers, though the probability was minimal.
Still, minimal doesn't mean impossible.
There were already at least a hundred Type II Lickers, and there was a chance that Type III Lickers had emerged as well.
Given these circumstances, even with her newfound strength, Alice knew she couldn't handle the situation alone.
"Lickers? You know about these creatures?"
The mention of this term triggered Jill's reflexive questioning.
"I do. They're a product of the Umbrella Corporation," Alice calmly replied.
"Umbrella Corporation again?"
Jill, still harboring resentment over Umbrella's operations at the quarantine station, naturally held no goodwill toward the company.
---
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Raccoon City, Umbrella Corporation had astonishingly constructed a steel barricade to seal off the city's entrances and exits in just one day (as per the movie's setting). This level of construction speed and capability was unmatched—even by the most advanced infrastructure experts.
Umbrella's special task force had established a massive tent as a temporary base near the barricade.
Cain, the task force leader, was overseeing various operations when a female technician approached him with a report.
"Mr. Cain, the T-virus infection within Raccoon City has reached the experimental threshold."
The so-called experimental threshold was a critical standard determined by Umbrella through T-virus research and projections. It meant that over half the city's population had been infected—a strategic goal for their bioweapon.
"Good!"
Cain immediately leaned over her shoulder to review the situation.
"Activate the pre-programmed remote commands and initiate the Nemesis Project. The company needs data on T-virus infections and the Nemesis program. From now on, ensure all data is synchronized with headquarters without any errors."
After observing the data for a moment, Cain issued his orders.
"Understood!"
The female technician promptly began her operations.
"Activating Nemesis program, disabling sedation protocols, programming chip functionality…"
"Progress: 1%, 2%… 100%!"
"Nemesis program initiated!"
In a distant hospital within Raccoon City, a massive metal bed held an enormous figure. Suddenly, its eyes opened, and the Umbrella logo briefly flashed within its irises.
The Tyrant-class bioweapon, "Nemesis," had been activated!
---
Back at the church, Chang Wei, masquerading as a fake priest, sensed an ominous presence.
It was faint, and he couldn't identify it clearly, but he speculated it might be a Type III Licker.
Not that it mattered.
While exchanging introductions with Alice and shaking her hand, Chang Wei had already "infected" her.
Alice remained completely unaware of the infection. She didn't resist the handshake because, honestly, Chang Wei was exceptionally handsome. Thanks to the Blacklight virus gene optimization and body enhancement, Chang Wei's appearance and physique had reached theoretical perfection.
Though not imbued with a memetic charm, Chang Wei could easily make women fall for him by releasing pheromones. Ordinary, non-evolved female humans would be drawn to him uncontrollably.
Jill found Alice particularly annoying for two reasons: first, her impressive performance had overshadowed Jill and Peyton, making them seem useless. Second, Alice was attracting the attention of the suddenly-appearing supermodel-like Chang Wei.
Watching Chang Wei hold Alice's hand for an extended period, Jill clicked her tongue in annoyance.
[Unknown virus detected… Super Virus System activated!]
[Virus analysis complete: Perfect T Virus…]
Chang Wei released Alice's hand. She remained oblivious to the infection, as her understanding of the T-virus was rudimentary at best—if not worse.
Chang Wei then delved into studying the T-virus through his Super Virus System.
The T-virus had several evolutionary paths, and the one Chang Wei desired most was "brain region evolution."
According to the system, brain region evolution would unlock telekinesis. The more advanced the evolution, the stronger the telekinetic abilities would become.
