Chapter 319: Shadows in the Dark
This time, the link was finally successful!
Through the vision of this Dogo Argentino, Chen Rui saw a darkness blurred by the rain.
He could vaguely discern the fine splashes on the ground and the violently shaking silhouettes of branches as the wind blew.
The dog was facing the endless darkness ahead, emitting a low, deeply uneasy "woof woof".
Its tail was tightly tucked between its legs, and its body seemed to be trembling slightly.
In the darkness, a strange sound seemed to echo as well.
The sound was neither human nor the roar of a wild beast.
It sounded more like the low murmurs of a demon amid the storm.
This fierce dog, specially trained by Chen Rui to recognize only him as its master and fearless of death, was now showing obvious signs of fear, even submission!
Just as Chen Rui was about to force it to move forward and investigate the truth.
From the darkness, an indistinct and almost elusive black shadow leaped out like a ghost!
Its speed was so fast that it exceeded a canine's reaction limit!
Chen Rui only felt a sudden darkness before him, and a sharp spiritual pain surged, forcibly breaking the link with the dog.
The dog didn't even let out a yelp before it was killed without any resistance!
"Huh..."
Chen Rui exhaled a deep breath and rubbed his pained forehead.
He did not panic because of this.
After a brief moment of shock, he swiftly turned around and deftly released all the dogs tethered with iron chains in the slaughterhouse.
"Snap!"
Then, he turned off all the lights inside the room.
The darkness rushed in like a tide, devouring everything in an instant.
Chen Rui gripped the dagger tightly, while his other hand reached behind his waist to draw a silenced pistol.
He slowly retreated, his figure silently vanishing into the shadows deep within the slaughterhouse.
The slaughterhouse plunged into absolute darkness.
With vision stripped away, his sense of smell and hearing grew extraordinarily sharp.
The intense scent of blood, stench of decay, and the musky smell of animals mixed, assaulting his nostrils.
The sound of wind and rain battering the tin roof and water dripping from the eaves echoed, magnified in the silence.
"Huff...huff..."
A dozen or so unleashed fierce dogs growled low and threateningly in the dark.
Their emerald eyes glistened with ferocity, scattering swiftly to occupy every corner of the slaughterhouse.
Through the visual sharing with these dogs, Chen Rui's vision became even clearer than when the lights were on.
Each dog's perspective was like a high-definition, night-vision capable mobile camera, presenting the inside and outside of the slaughterhouse flawlessly in his mind.
He had formed a tightly-knit three-dimensional warning network established by the pack of dogs.
No movement could escape his perception.
Yet, as the seconds ticked by.
After several minutes, there was still no trace of any enemy.
The opponent seemed to have vanished like a phantom.
Occasionally, the distant sound of a police siren wailed, faint, and blurry in the rainy night, before it too faded completely.
Within the slaughterhouse, only the sound of the wind and rain and the suppressed panting of the dogs remained.
The atmosphere was suffocatingly tense.
Suddenly, a Rottweiler in the corner seemed to have discovered something, it suddenly tucked its tail and emitted a fearful low whine of "woof".
"Go!"
Chen Rui immediately issued the command through the spiritual link.
Seven or eight fierce dogs nearby leaped at the direction like arrows from a bow!
Their ghostly white fangs flashed as they roared fiercely, attacking from different angles with utmost savagery.
Chen Rui had complete confidence in the feral dogs he raised.
Such an assault could easily take down a fully grown brown bear!
But in the next second!
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"
A series of loud, dull thuds, like heavy hammers slamming against leather, erupted in the darkness, appearing like a machine gun firing at close range!
