Chapter 879: Assassin on the Loose
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Three gunshots, bullets whizzed past Luo Zheng's back almost grazing him. Luo Zheng didn't know a massive conspiracy was looming, but he felt the overwhelming danger approaching. He pinned Lan Xue under him, hearing the gunshots, he knew trouble had arrived, quickly got up, and dragged Lan Xue into the police station.
The main road outside the police station was straight and open, with clear visibility and no cover. Rushing out would be suicidal, retreating back to the police station was the right move. The two retreated to the police station lobby, closing the glass door behind them. Luo Zheng saw the sprinkler system was still spraying, water flowing everywhere on the floor, and the unconscious police officers gradually waking up.
Luo Zheng dashed forward, delivering a karate chop to each one waking up, knocking them out again. Once he confirmed there was no danger, he looked at Lan Xue, whose face was icy cold, staring outside and said, "They must be assassins, waiting for us to go out and get killed. Do you have any plans?"
"Those people clearly don't want us to leave here. If we stay here and police reinforcements arrive, we won't be able to explain ourselves, but rushing out is dangerous too." Luo Zheng pondered for a moment, his expression darkened, and he said sternly, "Our goal in all this is to find the person behind everything. Now that there are people outside blocking us, they're definitely related to the person behind the scenes. Let's just fight our way out?"
"Alright." Lan Xue agreed, and the two picked up a handgun and a magazine each, one on the left and one on the right, charging outside once more, their eyes cold and their fighting spirit high.
Luo Zheng led the charge, sprinting straight to the road, regardless of whether anyone was shooting. He leaped forward, tiger-style, to the ground, rolled twice, and then bounced up, hearing bullets hitting the ground behind him. His expression turned cold, and he charged forward fiercely.
Following closely behind Luo Zheng, Lan Xue spotted the shooting location, fired two shots, suppressing the enemy behind a concrete bench across the road, and then charged onto the road. She saw Luo Zheng stop a car, swiftly hiding behind a nearby trash can, continuing to aim and suppress the assassins' fire.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Unfazed by the bizarre situation, Lan Xue kept shooting, forcing the assassins to hide behind the bench and unable to return fire. Lan Xue turned to glance in Luo Zheng's direction and was overjoyed to see him driving over.
"Thud!" A bullet skimmed past the headphones and hit the trash can, making an unsettling noise. Lan Xue was startled, realizing another assassin from the opposite side was aiming at her. She quickly rolled to the ground, avoiding the fatal follow-up shot, breaking into a cold sweat.
Luo Zheng also noticed the other assassin, promptly raised his gun, providing suppressive fire to cover Lan Xue, while shouting, "Quick, get in the car."
Lan Xue got up from the ground, saw the open car window, sprinted forward, and with a powerful leap, leaned slightly to slip agilely through the car window. She quickly extended her arm, aiming and firing in the assassin's direction while shouting, "Quick, rush forward."
"Are you okay?" Luo Zheng shouted worriedly while flooring the accelerator. The car roared, speeding forward, escaping the assassins' ambush circle. Only then did he have the chance to check on Lan Xue, seeing she was uninjured, he breathed a sigh of relief, and continued, "Didn't expect two assassins waiting in ambush."
"Luckily it's nighttime, no one around the police station saw, and no vehicles on the road; otherwise, it would've been chaotic. But someone is targeting us now; what should we do next?" Lan Xue asked while fastening her seatbelt.
"The enemy is in the shadows while we're exposed; it's very passive. The urgent thing is to hide. Once we're in hiding, and the enemy can't find us, they'll make a mistake. Inform Lan Xing to see if he can check nearby surveillance to find the assassins' photos. Without knowing who the opponent is, we're at a disadvantage." Luo Zheng suggested.
"Understood." Lan Xue pulled out her phone to make a call, but saw in the rearview mirror a car speeding after them. Her face darkened as she angrily said, "Quickly drive out of the city, lead them into the desert, and deal with them there. I'm curious to see who dares to chase us."
Luo Zheng also saw the pursuers, his expression turned cold, and he accelerated the car to its maximum, speeding away. Gambling City was built in the desert, meaning the surrounding area was all desert. Before long, Luo Zheng drove out of Gambling City, onto the desert highway, and continued speeding.
On the dim desert highway at night, with not many cars visible, the bright moon hung high in the sky, coldly watching the earth. The car sped by, kicking up a cloud of dust. Luo Zheng calmly looked ahead, pushing the pedal to the floor, momentarily glancing at the rearview mirror.
Less than a kilometer behind, a car chased relentlessly. Luo Zheng sneered, continued to speed, while Lan Xue next to him, with a serious expression, said, "It's a good thing it's night; no one was around the police station, so no chaos; otherwise, it would've been troublesome. Here, there's no one; up ahead is a sandbank turn, hard for the chasers to see what's ahead, perfect for an ambush, time to take out the tail."
"Alright." Luo Zheng waited until they passed the turn, then slammed the brakes. The smell of rubber sizzling against asphalt, dust flying, and soon the car stopped. Luo Zheng ordered, "One on each side, stay concealed, act when the time is right, be careful."
"Alright, be careful, try to capture them alive." Lan Xue casually agreed.
The two quickly got out of the car, rushed to the sides of the highway, hiding behind raised sandbanks. Because of the sandbank turn blocking the view, the pursuing car didn't realize the car ahead had already stopped and continued speeding after them. Upon reaching the turn, seeing the parked car ahead, it slammed on the brakes desperately.
An idea sparked in Luo Zheng's mind. As the slowing car came into view, he fired mercilessly at its tires, bursting them. The car, already unstable, lost balance when the tires blew, crashed forward, and violently hit the stopped car in front with a dull crash.
"Go capture them alive." Luo Zheng was pleased with the result, rushed forward, saw the airbags deployed, trapping the two assassins inside, unable to fight back. Luo Zheng exchanged a glance with Lan Xue, the two opened the car doors, and quickly knocked both men unconscious, pulling them out with force.
Luo Zheng threw the assassin he held on the ground, crouched down to inspect him, finding only weapons and nothing that confirmed their identity. He quickly took photos with his phone and, hearing faint police sirens in the distance, turned to Lan Xue, "Quick, put the silicone masks on them."
Lan Xue understood immediately, tearing off her silicone mask and putting it on the enemy, swapping her casual clothes with theirs, and shooting them dead. Luo Zheng also tore off his silicone mask, placed it on the other enemy, swapped clothes, shot the enemy dead, then both skillfully jumped back into the car and drove off rapidly.
