Chapter 878: Conspiracy Looms
At the Gambling City Police Headquarters, Chief Max sat on the luxurious office sofa, watching as the assistant secretary placed two cups of coffee on the table, and then twisting her sexy waist, left the room. Reluctantly, he turned his gaze away and settled it on a middle-aged man sitting opposite him. The man was just under fifty, of Eastern descent, with a square face, smiling amicably with a mild smile, his eyes slightly closed as he looked at the coffee, as though he hadn't seen it, sitting upright with a touch of authority.
"Mr. Song, welcome to Gambling City. Is there anything else I can do for you?" Chief Max said with a faint smile, looking like a good-hearted person, yet in his slightly closed eyes there flashed a greedy glow.
"Thank you, I'm here first to meet on behalf of my family, and secondly to discuss further cooperation opportunities with you. My family plans to invest in a hotel here, do you have any interest?" The man said earnestly.
"That's easy, I'm definitely interested, it's just that I don't have the money to play such big business with you." Max said with a smile.
"Money is not an issue, as long as you're interested. We need a piece of land, within a thousand acres, and if possible, you will own ten percent of the shares." The middle-aged man said directly.
Upon hearing this, Max's eyes immediately lit up, and he politely said, "That would be too grateful, the matter of the land is on me. To support overseas businessmen investing, we will fully cooperate and support. As for those who attempt to interfere with your investment, we will definitely remove them vigorously."
"I'm really grateful to you. For our friendship, I propose a toast." The middle-aged man said with a smile, a barely perceptible derisive sneer flashed in his eyes, but quickly returned to normal.
"It should be, just a moment please." Max said delightedly, stood up, took two glasses from the nearby wine rack, opened a bottle of red wine and poured it, smilingly handed one to the man, saying, "Cheers to a pleasant cooperation."
Just before the middle-aged man could say cheers, the phone on the desk rang. If it was a regular call, Chief Max would definitely not answer it at this moment, but when he saw it was an internal line, his expression slightly changed, this call was not trivial, apologetically he smiled, walked over quickly, picked up the phone and said, "This is Max, who's calling?"
After listening for a while, Max's face changed greatly, he put down the phone and looked at the middle-aged man in shock, asking, "Mr. Song, what exactly is the background of those two people who tried to harm you?"
"Um? Seems like assassins hired by competitors, I'm not exactly sure, what happened?" The middle-aged man asked curiously.
"They have taken five policemen hostage, demanding to see a lawyer and reporters, the reporters are already rushing over. If they're assassins, would they make such a public fuss? Mr. Song, I respect you, I hope you'll tell me the truth." Max said in a somewhat stiff tone, with a touch of dissatisfaction. He initially thought it was a simple matter, but didn't expect it to become so big, he had a vague feeling of being used.
With a calm expression, the middle-aged man said, "Chief, I think you might be mistaken. If my guess is correct, they're probably trying to make a big fuss, cause a traffic jam outside, leave your work passively, then create even bigger chaos, seize the chance to escape. I suggest you send elite teams over, assassins are just that, shoot to kill directly, this would be great merit for you."
Max knew things were not that simple, but he was already on the pirate ship, having gotten to this point, there was no room for retreat, he could only try to keep the situation within his control. He also realized he was being used, but when he thought of ten percent of the shares, and the cash check gift gesture earlier, he felt much better. He bowed his head and pondered for a moment, picked up a phone nearby, dialed a number, and instructed, "Head over immediately to support, be sure to subdue the other party, you may open fire if necessary."
After hanging up the phone, Max looked at the middle-aged man and said displeased, "Mr. Song, can you now come clean with me? As friends, it's best to be upfront with each other."
"Certainly, every word I've said to you is true. You don't know me, but you should know my family's business philosophy of honesty as the foundation. My loyal confidant accompanied me here, only to be assassinated less than an hour after arriving. If it weren't for him protecting me, I might not have made it to you." Said the middle-aged man honestly, with a touch of grievance and indignation, as if he had indeed suffered great hardship.
"In that case, why not go take a look together?" Max said seriously.
"Of course, it'd be my honor, but I have a shareholder meeting to convene in an hour to discuss the hotel investment and construction matters. Not sure if there's enough time?" The middle-aged man replied warmly, with a flash of cold gloom in his eyes.
Max didn't notice the cold gloom in the middle-aged man's eyes, seeing the party's honest face, he believed him somewhat, thought for a moment, and said, "There's definitely not enough time in an hour, let's not delay your major business, I'll personally go handle it, we'll keep in touch at any time."
"That's fine, then I won't interrupt." The middle-aged man said regretfully, then bade farewell and left.
The middle-aged man arrived at the doorway, a black business car came over, the man smilingly shook hands goodbye with Max who came out to see him off, got into the car, then the black business car left the police station, got on the main road. The man's enthusiastic face turned cold, he whispered coldly and asked, "How did it go?"
"Fourth Master, the matter is already handled, absolutely no one discovered it was a fake death, the person has been arranged to leave the country, went to the designated place, won't be discovered." The driver hurriedly replied.
"Very good, if such a big setup still can't handle those two bastards, I won't have any chance to rise, neither will you, so this matter must be handled well. Once it's done properly, the family will definitely rehire me, you're my confidant, there will be benefits for you." The middle-aged man said lightly, with a self-assured smile on his face, as if everything was within his grasp.
"Fourth Master, why not just kill them outright?" The driver asked somewhat puzzled.
"He's Elder Er's confidant, loyal to the family, the family can't do such heartless things, understand? Moreover, if I want to be rehired, I can't do without Elder Er's support. After five years, I've finally found an opportunity to rise again, I don't want any unexpected troubles." The middle-aged man's face was serious as he spoke.
Upon hearing this, the driver's face relaxed a bit, and he praised, "Fourth Master, you're kind, the brothers have good prospects following you."
"No need for flattery, by the way, are you all prepared? I hope that the moment those two bastards walk out of the police station is the time of their death." The middle-aged man said coldly, his face turning grim.
