Chapter 895: Lan Xing Kidnapped
This gunshot suddenly made Luo Zheng feel that the kidnappers might be targeting him. Although Shi Feng has offended many people, making a retaliatory assassination possible, Luo Zheng's intuition made him secretly alarmed, as if he smelled the scent of a conspiracy. He pulled himself together, and not long after, Lan Xue's voice came through his earpiece. The sniper's point had already been investigated, but only traces of an ambush were found on the ground. Both the weapon and sniper had disappeared without a trace, not even leaving behind a shell casing.
Luo Zheng was livid. Just then, Shi Feng's men arrived. Upon learning that the sniper had escaped, Shi Feng ordered his subordinates to spread out and pursue, while notifying headquarters to send people to clean up. Seeing Luo Zheng scowling and looking around intently, with a murderous aura on his face and sharp eyes, Shi Feng couldn't help but step forward and ask, "How do we handle this next?"
"I feel this group is related to the kidnappers. The Song family doesn't want you involved in the kidnapping incident, so you should fully investigate this assassination attempt. As someone involved, even the Song family can't say anything if both cases are investigated secretly." Luo Zheng said coldly.
"Understood," Shi Feng agreed.
Seeing that there was nothing more for him to do here, and just as Lan Xue's inquiry came over, Luo Zheng took his leave from Shi Feng and jogged towards the car parked diagonally opposite. He got into Lan Xue's car and asked, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Let's head back to the hotel," Lan Xue said softly, turning the steering wheel and driving towards the hotel. As she did, she said, "I've told Grandpa about the situation. Without direct evidence, we can't publicly take down the Song family. But we can act freely, as long as we don't leave any evidence. If anything comes up, Grandpa will cover for it. Additionally, he's very pleased with your work progress and urges you to keep up the good work."
"Got it," Luo Zheng replied casually, his mind filled with the earlier assassination attempt.
"I also appreciate what you've done," Lan Xue continued. Seeing Luo Zheng unresponsive, she turned her head in surprise to see him deep in thought with a grave expression. Suddenly understanding, she smiled wryly and asked, "Are you thinking about the assassination? Who do you think it was?"
"I feel it might be connected to the kidnapping case," Luo Zheng said casually.
"You mean the kidnapping case is aimed at us?" Lan Xue asked in surprise. Seeing Luo Zheng nod, she fell into deep thought. After a while, Lan Xue suddenly said, "If that's true, the situation is likely not simple—first kidnapping a hostage to draw attention, then finding a chance to target us. It's a trick that can't be prevented. Who might it be?"
"Judging by the method, the opponent is a deeply scheming, well-planned, ruthless person. Without more evidence, it's hard to judge. We have quite a few enemies. Let's observe for now. I'll notify the captain that we probably won't be able to return to the base soon," Luo Zheng said seriously.
"Okay, do you want to get to the bottom of this?" Lan Xue asked in return.
"Having this happen to us, I can't rest easy until it's clear. If the same group did both, the situation is complicated. Let's return to the hotel. I think it's necessary to involve Ghost Hand and the other two. This is no ordinary vendetta. What do you think?" Luo Zheng said solemnly.
"Alright, I'll talk to them," Lan Xue agreed.
The two unknowingly arrived at the hotel room, rang the doorbell, but no one answered. Their expressions changed slightly as they exchanged looks. Luo Zheng softly asked, "Lan Xing, open the door, it's us."
The door still didn't open, and no one replied. Luo Zheng's face changed dramatically, immediately sensing something was wrong. He took a few steps back, took a deep breath, and suddenly stomped hard. His body slammed into the door with a bang, knocking it open. Luo Zheng rushed into the room, rolled on the ground, raised his gun to aim ahead, but found the room in chaos without a trace of Lan Xing.
"Not good," Lan Xue said as she entered, picking up a button-sized earpiece from the floor. Her face turned icy cold, and her gaze also became chilling. She looked at Luo Zheng and anxiously handed over the earpiece, saying, "Something's happened. Someone's been here and kidnapped little sister."
"You go check the hotel's surveillance immediately, and I'll stay to inspect the traces," Luo Zheng said with a serious expression.
Lan Xue turned around and ran. With Lan Xing's safety at stake, Lan Xue was burning with anxiety. Luo Zheng coldly surveyed the room, imagining the scenario based on its disarray. To silently abduct Lan Xing, the opponent wasn't simple. However, there were no signs of a fight or struggle in the room; just everyone's belongings messily scattered.
"Hmm?" Luo Zheng's gaze suddenly fell on a laptop on the table.
The laptop screen, originally black, suddenly lit up, displaying a voice playback window. An electronic, mechanical voice, devoid of any emotion, said: "If you want your people to live, stay put in the hotel for three days. Do not go anywhere, and do not interfere with anything, or you'll be collecting bodies. All your actions are under my surveillance, do not try to resist, just wait for my contact."
As soon as the voice finished, the laptop screen turned blue. Luo Zheng knew the system had been hacked and there was no way to trace the recording. Frustrated, he sat on the chair helplessly, biting his teeth, his face turning icy cold, regretting deeply. He should have seen this coming—Lan Xing was only an information soldier, limited in combat skills; he should have left someone behind to protect her.
Before long, Lan Xue rushed in anxiously, her pretty face brimming with anger. She coldly glanced at the laptop and said, "I heard the recording through the earpiece. Also, the hotel informed me that the surveillance videos were hacked. These bastards, I won't forgive them. What do we do next?"
"Don't rush. Let me think," Luo Zheng responded casually, forcing himself to calm down. He reviewed the whole incident again, feeling that something was amiss. After a while, Luo Zheng angrily said, "For Lan Xing's safety, we can only stay here and wait. I've already messed up once, and as long as there's a glimmer of hope, I can't let Lan Xing get hurt."
"This isn't your fault. We checked into the hotel right after landing; we didn't expect to be targeted. You don't have to feel guilty. Stay calm. No matter what, we'll save my little sister. I only have one, and I won't allow anyone to harm her," Lan Xue said coldly, a chilling murderous intent emanating from her as she checked her weapon with furrowed brows and clenched teeth.
"Don't be too hasty. I sense a massive conspiracy looming over us. A formidable hacker, a dangerous sniper—they silently abducted Lan Xing. All of this shows that our opponent is no ordinary kidnapper. Why do they want us to stay in the hotel for three days?" Luo Zheng analyzed calmly, controlling his anger.
"You mean?" Lan Xue paused, calming down slightly, and asked in bewilderment.
