Chapter 951: Beijing's Call for Help
Sarazi and Gai Wafu approached full of admiration, Luo Zheng explained the delivery of gifted supplies set for tomorrow. Both were overjoyed, and on Luo Zheng's signal, Gai Wafu went to clear the battlefield. Luo Zheng pulled Sarazi aside to ask about the raid on Siya Fa's stronghold. Sarazi immediately made a call and then told Luo Zheng, "We set a big fire and the troops have already withdrawn."
"That's good." Luo Zheng felt relieved. Siya Fa chose to withdraw at the crucial moment, largely due to Sarazi's subordinates' sneak attack. Without the raid, Siya Fa's troops wouldn't have retreated, and the outcome of the battle would have been uncertain. Luo Zheng gratefully continued, "We owe this success to you."
"We're friends, no need for such words." Sarazi laughed.
"Right, we're friends. Once the supplies arrive tomorrow, I need to make an overnight withdrawal to the border, and I'll need your escort by then." Luo Zheng said with a smile.
"No problem." Sarazi readily agreed, then thought for a moment and added, "Can your country sell us weapons in the future? The price is negotiable."
"I can't promise that; I need to check." Luo Zheng replied honestly. He inquired briefly through his earpiece, and shortly after, Hong Meihua's affirmative response came. Luo Zheng breathed a sigh of relief and said, "There shouldn't be a big problem; I'll coordinate this when I get back. As for the price, we'll discuss it later. We can't just profit off you; we'll need your assistance in many other aspects in the future."
"Deal, deal, we're friends." Sarazi was overjoyed when Luo Zheng agreed to his request. Although this simple weapon transaction was essentially a form of political alliance, it symbolized recognition by Huaxia Country. With Huaxia Country as a powerful backing, Sarazi felt much more at ease.
After arranging the battlefield cleanup, Gai Wafu approached. Luo Zheng pointed to the corpses of the Sam Country Special Forces and said, "These are treasures worth quite a bit of money. Don't waste them. We've had a long day; it's time for us to withdraw too."
"Sure, why not rest at my place first?" Gai Wafu suggested with a smile.
Luo Zheng nodded, and the group headed towards the cave. Others were responsible for the battlefield cleanup. Siya Fa's troops retreated in a hurry, leaving behind many corpses and weaponry. To win over Gai Wafu, Sarazi didn't contest the spoils and generously allowed Gai Wafu's side to clean the battlefield.
Sarazi's actions indeed earned Gai Wafu's approval. Instead of keeping everything, he had selected good weapons and reserved half for Sarazi. Luo Zheng didn't mind these details. Upon reaching the cave, he asked Gai Wafu to arrange a room for rest.
Once arrangements were made, Gai Wafu left, and soon there were only five members of the team left in the room. Luo Zheng looked at Snow Bear, who understood and said, "My injury isn't serious; I can handle two more days, don't worry."
"Good, make sure to treat it well afterward to avoid any long-term issues." Luo Zheng advised with concern. He looked around at the others, relieved to see no one else was injured. He continued, "The mission is complete. Tomorrow night, we'll leave overnight and head back across the border."
"Hehe!" Everyone chuckled with relief. The mission was tougher than expected. Thankfully, they had local knowledge from Sarazi and allied with Gai Wafu; otherwise, the mission would have been impossible to complete. Ghost Hand laughed and said, "Good thing we had a good relationship with Sarazi; forming alliances seems beneficial."
The group chatted for a while, then left one person to keep watch while the others went to sleep. They slept until dawn. Gai Wafu came to invite them for breakfast, and they accepted without pretense. After breakfast, they gathered in a conference room to chat, and time flew by.
After dinner, five large trucks arrived at the mountain entrance. Someone came to inform them it was the shipment from Huaxia Country. Gai Wafu and Sarazi exchanged a knowing look, feeling reassured. They were deeply impressed and trusted Luo Zheng, not only for not abandoning partners on the battlefield but for delivering on promises, making them feel secure in working with someone like him.
All five trucks were filled with weapons. Once Sarazi and Gai Wafu took over, Luo Zheng expressed his intention to leave, leaving the distribution to Sarazi. Sarazi understood this was Luo Zheng showing his support by preventing Gai Wafu from developing doubts and gratefully arranged transportation for Luo Zheng and the others to leave.
Luo Zheng and his team left by truck. After a few hours, they reached the border area where the truck couldn't go further. They got off quietly, maneuvered past barely manned checkpoints, crossed the border, and entered their own territory. They reached a border outpost just around noon.
The outpost confirmed they were friendly and warmly lit a fire to cook. For the border warriors at the outpost, receiving those who executed cross-border missions wasn't uncommon; they were used to it. An hour later, a transport helicopter arrived just as everyone had eaten their fill and they boarded to leave.
The helicopter flew at high speed, refueled once en route, and returned to the National Blade Base by afternoon. Jumping off the chopper, Luo Zheng saw Wu Jin, Wu Miao, Hong Meihua, and Lan Xing coming to welcome them. Seeing the familiar smiling faces, he couldn't help but smile; the feeling of returning from the battlefield was great.
"Great work." Wu Jin shouted, and everyone saluted each other, expressing their admiration as soldiers do. He immediately asked Wu Miao to arrange treatment for Snow Leopard and then said to everyone, "Take a good shower, rest a bit, and we'll have dinner together in an hour."
"Thanks for the hospitality, Captain." Luo Zheng replied with a smile on behalf of everyone.
The group jogged to the armory, turned in their gear, then returned to the dormitory for a refreshing shower. They changed into their officer uniforms, rested briefly, and when the time came, headed to the canteen. Wu Jin greeted them at the door and led them to a private dining room inside; a sumptuous feast was already prepared on the table.
"Welcome back, heroes." Wu Jin warmly encouraged everyone to sit, showing none of a captain's air, but more like an older brother caring for his siblings. Everyone accepted this gesture without fuss. Successfully completing the mission and returning was worth celebrating, and they were used to such festivities.
They chatted, recounting battlefield stories. After a few drinks, and seeing that everyone had nearly finished eating, the captain suddenly shifted the topic, saying, "The situation in Beijing is very serious. We don't know if someone like Charlie is behind it, but the organization hopes you can go handle it."
"What's going on?" Luo Zheng put down his chopsticks, curiosity piqued, as discussions about missions were unusual at the dinner table unless the issue was very serious.
"Hong Meihua will brief you on the specific situation later, but finish your meal first. Whatever the case, whether there's truly someone named Charlie or not, or if the perpetrator is indeed Charlie, you must resolve it; bolster our national prestige," Wu Jin drank deeply, his expression turning serious, and a cold murderous intent flashed in his tiger-like eyes.
Luo Zheng realized that the situation was even more complicated than he thought, causing his heart to skip a beat, feeling tense.
