Chapter 972: Thrilling Slaughter
"Originally thought you were just an unthreatening guide, didn't expect you to be the real opponent. Interesting, this is the first time in my life I've made such a mistake. For this, I'll give you a fair duel, come out." A voice coldly and loudly shouted, devoid of any emotion, clearly audible amid the roaring waterfall.
Lan Xue did not come out but instead assessed the position and distance of the opponent by the sound, curling up behind a large rock, forcing herself to calm down and wait for an opportunity. Luo Zheng, due to a cold and injuries, had lost his combat ability, and Mountain Eagle probably wasn't any better. The gun was no longer usable; everything had to rely on the Tiger Teeth military knife in her hand.
The sudden gunshot just now made Lan Xue realize that the enemy was incredibly strong, able to conceal murderous intent, with extraordinarily accurate gun skills, truly matching her own strength. There were two enemies remaining, so Lan Xue dared not be careless, cautiously advancing while using both hands and feet. The roaring waterfall masked the slight sound of crawling but also concealed the enemy's footsteps. In such adverse conditions, everything depended on skill.
Lan Xue nimbly crawled over a few large rocks, coiling like a snake under the slope of a rock, clenching her teeth, tightening her reverse-grip military dagger a bit more, and standing vigilant with her ears up, adjusting her breathing to blend completely with the surrounding environment, preventing detection.
Success or failure, Lan Xue thought of being with Luo Zheng and felt no regrets in her heart, casting a glance at Luo Zheng. Before launching an attack, she planned to take one last look at her beloved, only to be startled by seeing Luo Zheng signaling in hiding and realized he was warning her.
Through Luo Zheng's few gestures, Lan Xue quickly understood that an enemy was hiding behind a rock just two meters ahead, while another enemy was nowhere to be seen. The enemy believed in their shooting skills, treating Luo Zheng as a dead man, hence not paying attention, allowing Luo Zheng to spot them.
With the precise location and distance of the enemy known, Lan Xue felt slightly reassured, nodded at Luo Zheng with a faint smile that carried a hint of bittersweet resolve and reluctant love, suddenly turned around, crawling cautiously forward, eyes coldly fixed ahead, muscles tense, ready to strike at any moment.
Before long, Lan Xue crawled to the other side of the rock concealing her target, adjusted her breathing slightly, and circled forward around the rock, soon discovering the enemy hidden behind it—a strong man. He was preparing to advance from the opposite side, showing his back. If only she had a gun, it would have been a perfect opportunity, a pity indeed.
Lan Xue did not have Luo Zheng's throwing knife skills, so instead of tossing the military dagger to kill the enemy outright, she silently pounced forward like a fierce tiger descending a mountain. But the opponent was exceptionally quick, as if they had eyes on the back of their head, swinging the gun in hand back with a whistling sound.
"Clang!" The military knife clashed with the steel gun, producing a crisp sound. Lan Xue felt a terrifying force surging forth, shocking her greatly. Realizing the opponent was stronger than expected, she immediately changed tactics. Her footwork became lighter and quicker, avoiding the attack. Her military knife deftly rotated to a forward grip, slashing toward the opponent's lower body, her movements as fast as lightning.
The opponent wasn't deterred either, swiftly retreating just enough to dodge Lan Xue's attack, his gun seeming to gain a life of its own, spinning a circle to position for shooting, aimed at Lan Xue. His movements were so fast that they were nearly imperceptible to the naked eye, as Lan Xue felt an overwhelming sense of danger, instinctively dodging with a slide step. Her military knife rotated back to a reverse grip. Pushing off with her foot, she dashed toward him, engaging in close combat with a series of combination attacks.
Yet, the man's offensive was extremely sharp, continuously evading Lan Xue's attacks. Spotting an opening, he abruptly swung his gun horizontally, the distance too close for Lan Xue to dodge. Taking it head-on was not an option, so she leaped forcefully, glancing off the steel gun as it swept past, narrowly avoiding a deadly strike. But the enemy was too quick; after missing, he stepped forward swiftly, delivering a fierce kick toward Lan Xue.
Lan Xue rolled up after a forward tumble, feeling a gust of wind from behind, knowing it was bad. Gritting her teeth, she swung her reverse-holding Tiger Teeth military knife in a desperate maneuver. The opponent, cautious of Lan Xue's knife, wouldn't meet it with his foot; instead, his sweeping foot suddenly lifted, aiming a fierce kick at Lan Xue's head.
Missing her attack, Lan Xue knew things weren't looking good. Instinctively diving to the side, her foot found no purchase as she plunged to the ground. Before she could rise to counter-attack, she saw the opponent aiming his gun at her, ready to shoot, his face twisted in a grimace, eyes cold. Lan Xue was terrified, almost instinctively rolling to evade, the bullet striking the rock to cause ricochets with sparks flying.
The sound of gunfire unleashed Lan Xue's latent potential. Faced with life and death, she remained much more composed, using the rock for leverage to rebound like an athlete flipping in mid-air, carving a graceful arc in the Void, jumping over two meters away to land behind a rock. The rock blocked the enemy's shot; Lan Xue had no time to breathe, quickly scanning the surroundings, abruptly darting forward, supporting herself with one hand, suddenly twisting her body weirdly to hide behind another rock.
Almost simultaneously, the enemy pursued, opening fire at Lan Xue, who dodged half a beat earlier, bullets missing her. Not far away, Luo Zheng watched anxiously, desperately wishing to rush to assist but drained of strength. Suddenly, he noticed another middle-aged man entering the scene, slightly pudgy—the very Shijing Teng from the photos.
The sight of Shijing Teng didn't bring Luo Zheng any relief, instead filling him with deep anxiety. One enemy was already enough for Lan Xue to handle. With Shijing Teng's addition, she stood no chance. That man, fittingly Shijing Teng's bodyguard, was overwhelmingly proficient, matching Lan Xue in hand-to-hand combat. Luo Zheng remained still, vigilantly observing, racking his brains for a getaway plan, but with no strength left, he couldn't manage anything.
By this time, Shijing Teng also spotted Luo Zheng but didn't care, having full confidence in his bodyguard's shooting skills. He raised his gun to aim at Lan Xue, advancing quickly to form a pincer attack along with the other, intending to pin Lan Xue on two sides. Lan Xue was already on the defensive, making the situation immediately dire.
Luo Zheng saw Shijing Teng ignoring him, feeling no relief as he thought of Lan Xue being on the brink of death, anxiously wishing to charge forward. A surge of hot blood rushed to his head, prompting him to shout, "Bastard, if you dare, come at me!" Yet, his body lacked strength, rendering him immobile, his face flushed with urgency but feeling helpless. This despair and pain nearly broke Luo Zheng's heart.
