Chapter 975: Catching the Culprit
The most feared situation on the battlefield is when a gun misfires, which can be deadly. Fortunately, Shijing Teng was busy dodging grenades, and the sound of the trigger click was drowned out by the roaring waterfall, so he didn't hear it. Lan Xue narrowly escaped disaster. Seeing that there was no grenade explosion, Shijing Teng immediately realized he had been tricked. Supporting himself with both hands, he pushed off the ground with force and sprang up, his head colliding directly with the oncoming pistol.
"Ah——!" Shijing Teng stumbled forward, using both hands to steady himself on a nearby rock. He exerted force with his feet, bounced up, and ran forward wildly, holding the back of his head tightly with one hand. Blood spattered down as Lan Xue, fueled by hatred, struck with terrifying force. The pistol, a solid piece of metal, was only five or six meters away, causing Shijing Teng's occipital region to be severely injured.
Lan Xue didn't expect Shijing Teng to be hit. Seeing a few drops of blood on the ground, her spirits lifted. Without hesitation, she rushed forward. Shijing Teng's severe head injury led to excessive blood loss and a muddled brain, slowing him down rapidly. With a grim expression, Lan Xue gripped her military knife tightly, leapt down, and spotted a fist-sized stone, which she picked up to continue the pursuit.
Watching Shijing Teng run slower and slower, Lan Xue seized an opportunity to hurl the stone fiercely, hitting Shijing Teng in the lower back. At that moment, he was leaping from one boulder to another. In mid-air, off balance, and with too much blood loss clouding his mind, he crashed heavily to the ground, his forehead striking a rock and bleeding immediately.
Blood quickly flowed into his eyes, obscuring his vision. Shijing Teng had to stop, closing his eyes and swinging his gun chaotically, roaring like an injured beast, his steps shaky. Lan Xue watched coldly, pausing and observing Shijing Teng without rushing to strike.
Shijing Teng continued to strike wildly, sending his gun flying. Clutching the back of his head with one hand to stop the bleeding and constantly rubbing his eyes with the other, blood had already invaded his eyes, completely blocking his vision. In a panic, leaning against a boulder, Shijing Teng shouted, "Alright, stop, I surrender."
"How can I be assured of your formidable combat skills?" Lan Xue, surprised by Shijing Teng's surrender, coldly but stealthily moved forward, her footsteps masked by the roaring waterfall. With a swift motion, the Tiger Teeth knife cut through both of Shijing Teng's arms without hesitation.
"Ah——?" Shijing Teng yelled in pain, "You vicious woman, I've surrendered! What more do you want? I know a lot of things, if you anger me, you'll get nothing."
"Really? Haven't you heard that it's better to offend a scoundrel than a woman? A woman's vengeance is strong. You hurt my man; if you didn't have some value, I'd have killed you with a single stroke." Luo Zheng said coldly, tearing off Shijing Teng's clothes to use as a rope, binding his hands behind him.
At this moment, a loud shout came from behind. Lan Xue turned to see Shi Tao approaching with several others. She let out a long sigh and shouted, "Here, come quickly."
Before long, Shi Tao arrived with his men, looked at Shijing Teng with a guilty expression, and said, "Sorry, we couldn't keep up with your pace. You were too fast."
"You were too slow. The enemy was running so fast; how could you be so slow in pursuing? Never mind, take him away; he can't die yet. Guard him carefully, or I'll hold you accountable," Lan Xue said displeased.
"Yes, I guarantee there'll be no mistakes," Shi Tao quickly agreed.
Everyone started to walk back. After about half an hour, they reached a rope by the cliff. Shi Tao explained it was used to climb down. Lan Xue, concerned about Luo Zheng, didn't climb up from there but continued ahead. By the time they returned to the original spot, Luo Zheng and Mountain Eagle had already gone up, with Niu Gang and two others waiting.
After understanding the situation, Lan Xue grabbed the rope to climb up the cliff, where she saw two helicopters parked on the open area above the canyon. Mountain Eagle and Luo Zheng were receiving medical treatment, and Major was speaking quietly with his men nearby. Lan Xue hurried over, finally relieved to see Luo Zheng and Mountain Eagle unharmed, and sat down on the grass as a medical staff rushed over to check.
"Are you alright?" Luo Zheng asked with concern, noticing Lan Xue didn't look too well.
"I'm fine, just need to rest a bit. Oh, by the way, Shijing Teng was captured," Lan Xue replied.
"I'm glad you're alright," Luo Zheng said with relief, smiling. He wasn't worried about Shijing Teng now that the main force had arrived; capturing him was just a matter of time. As long as Lan Xue was safe, that was all that mattered.
Lan Xue felt the depth of Luo Zheng's concern, and her cold gaze softened a little. Beside them, Mountain Eagle, dissatisfied, shouted, "You two are overboard, I'm also a wounded person, why isn't anyone caring about me?"
"You're an indestructible superhuman, there's no way you're hurt," Lan Xue joked for once.
"That's right," Mountain Eagle said smugly, "Honestly, it was lucky. The bullet hit the edge of the heart, just a deflection; if it struck like our brother here, I wouldn't have been able to support just now."
Lan Xue thought of the critical bullet that Mountain Eagle took and felt a moment of lingering fear, gratefully saying, "I owe you one, thank you."
"There's no need to say that between us," Mountain Eagle laughed.
"Sorry for interrupting, what do we do next?" Major interjected from the side.
"Regroup, everyone has been eliminated, arrange our return to Beijing," Lan Xue said.
"Yes, I'll make the arrangements immediately," Major answered promptly.

Almost simultaneously, in a nightclub in Beijing, Ghost Hand and Snow Leopard sat in a luxurious private room, opposite them were Little Dao and leaders of other evil forces from various regions of Beijing. In front of each person was a piece of paper with a list written on it. Ghost Hand said calmly, "Gentlemen, we have worked together more than once. This time is critical; those on the list are enemy spies. If you don't want to do this, forget the list as soon as you leave. Otherwise, you'll be charged with treason."
"Rest assured, although we aren't good people, we know that the country's strength means a good life for us. No need to say more. Just one word from you and we'll immediately act," Little Dao was the first to express his stance.
Others quickly followed suit. No one was foolish enough not to realize that knowing the content of the list meant knowing state secrets. Refusing to cooperate only had one outcome: ruin. Helping the country could gain favor; if ever caught and judged, it might allow for atonement. Why not benefit?
"Good, act tonight. By tomorrow morning, those on the list should have met with an accident. Anyone who doesn't act cleanly and leaves evidence will bear the consequences themselves," Ghost Hand said with a stern face, the calm expression now tinged with a hint of killing intent.
