Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Emergency Rescue! That Gentle Warmth
Inside the quiet cave camp, Su Yi was fully focused, carefully maneuvering the needle and thread through Odogaron's torn flesh.
He couldn't afford to rush, yet anxiety gnawed at his heart—Odogaron's condition was dire.
Rucao, ever considerate, picked up a towel and gently wiped away the sweat on Su Yi's forehead.
Nearby, Chansey finally stopped releasing Healing Waves.
Completely exhausted, it slumped to the ground.
The treatment wasn't working.
It seemed that Odogaron's injuries were so severe that it had entered a state even more dangerous than being near death.
"Chansey, Rucao! I need help!"
Su Yi called out without even lifting his head.
"On it, meow!"
Rucao washed its paws before moving beside Su Yi.
"Chansey!"
Chansey gathered its remaining strength and pushed itself up.
Su Yi couldn't handle everything alone.
Odogaron's wounds were simply too severe.
"Chansey, wipe away the blood. Rucao, spray medicine on the stitched wounds."
Su Yi gave orders while continuing to stitch the gaping injuries.
The two Pokémon diligently followed his instructions, each playing their role.
But despite their best efforts, Odogaron remained deathly still.
Its breathing was growing weaker.
"Rucao, release Larvesta and Kulu-Ya-Ku."
"Got it, meow!"
Rucao grabbed the capture balls from Su Yi's belt and summoned the two Pokémon.
"Kulu-Ya-Ku, gather some rocks and build a firepit. Larvesta, light the fire. Rucao, set up a pot for boiling water."
Su Yi's calm and efficient commands sent the entire team into action.
They worked quickly, completing the setup in no time.
Su Yi bit down on the sewing thread, freeing his hands.
He then took out a small carving knife, holding it over the flames to sterilize it before carefully extracting broken fangs embedded in Odogaron's flesh.
He also cut away necrotic tissue, making sure no infected meat remained.
Chansey wiped away the blood with a warm towel.
Rucao immediately sprayed medicine onto the wound.
Once the injuries were cleaned, Su Yi resumed his stitching with full concentration.
Time Passed Unnoticed
There was no telling how long they worked.
Su Yi's hands were trembling from exhaustion when he finally tied the last stitch.
"Huff… it's done."
Su Yi leaned back, rolling his stiff shoulders.
The moment he stood up, a wave of dizziness hit him.
"Damn… how long was I squatting?"
Su Yi quickly stretched his legs, trying to shake off the numbness.
Rucao handed him a cup of hot water without a word.
After taking a few sips, Su Yi turned back to check on Odogaron.
The wounds were no longer gushing blood.
Though still barely breathing, Odogaron at least didn't look as horrifying as before.
"If it can regain some strength and eat something, it should pull through."
Right now, Odogaron was too weak to even swallow.
Even forcing a potion down its throat was too risky—if it choked, that could be its end.
Su Yi knew that if he returned to the Pokémon world, he could go to a proper Pokémon Center.
But there were no medical facilities on Armor Island, and Odogaron might not survive long enough to get proper treatment.
This emergency field surgery was the best he could do.
Now, it all depended on whether Odogaron could endure the blood loss and avoid infection.
Finally, Su Yi released three of his remaining Pokémon.
"I need you all to take turns watching over Odogaron. Rucao, Chansey, let's rest for a while."
"Hooowl!"
The night echoed with the sound of distant roars.
The Roar of the Deviljho!
Su Yi jumped up instantly and rushed out of the tent.
The Great Jagras and Kulu-Ya-Ku had also jolted, their gazes following the alert and tense Great Girros, who was staring at the injured Odogaron.
Huff… Huff…
Odogaron had escaped immediate danger, but its body remained weak and sluggish.
Lying on the ground, it struggled to breathe, its wary eyes locked onto Su Yi and his companions.
"You're awake, huh?"
Seeing this, Su Yi sighed in relief.
"I know you're confused right now.
After what you went through, it must feel like you've walked through the gates of hell.
But don't worry—I won't hurt you.
Here, take this. It'll help you recover."
Su Yi stepped forward, extending a Revive toward Odogaron.
At this distance, if Odogaron summoned the last of its strength, it could kill Su Yi in an instant.
Su Yi's fist clenched slightly, his palm sweating.
Nearby, his three Pokémon companions were tense and ready for battle, prepared to react at any moment.
Odogaron glanced at Su Yi, then at the bandages and stitches across its abdomen.
Its gaze swept over the pile of empty medicine bottles and bloodied gauze beside it.
With its keen instincts, it seemed to understand something.
"You're still injured. You need this."
Su Yi took another cautious step forward, offering the Revive once more.
Whoosh!
Odogaron slowly lowered its head, inching closer to the Revive.
Its nose twitched, sniffing at the strange item—but it couldn't discern what it was.
"Eat it. You need to get better quickly."
Su Yi gently moved his hand closer, until the Revive was just inches from Odogaron's mouth.
Odogaron looked into Su Yi's eyes.
There was no fear, only genuine concern and hope.
Finally, Odogaron stuck out its tongue, carefully licking up the Revive.
A warm energy instantly spread through its body, the weakness fading significantly.
As the Revive's power took effect, its wounds started healing, and a familiar hunger returned.
Feeling its body rejuvenate, Odogaron realized—
Su Yi had not lied to it.
"You must be hungry. I'll prepare some food for you."
Hearing Odogaron's stomach growl, Su Yi quickly got to work.
He finely chopped fresh meat, mixed it into a beaten egg, and carefully steamed it.
Once it was ready, he mashed the meat custard into smaller pieces, then spoon-fed Odogaron.
The rich aroma of fresh meat blended with the smooth, creamy texture of eggs.
Odogaron ate eagerly, devouring the soft, easy-to-digest meal.
A large portion of meat custard was finished in no time.
As its stomach filled with warmth, Odogaron finally relaxed.
"Feeling stronger now? Let me change your bandages."
Su Yi gathered the last of the medicine and fresh bandages before moving toward Odogaron.
Odogaron stared at the medical supplies in Su Yi's hands—
Then, it slowly lay down, exposing its injured abdomen.
"Thank you for trusting me."
Su Yi smiled, carefully unwrapping the old bandages and applying fresh medicine.
Odogaron remained still, quietly watching as Su Yi methodically sprayed the healing solution and re-bandaged its wounds with care.
"There, all done."
"Now, just eat well, rest well, and focus on healing."
Su Yi hesitated for a moment before pulling out Odogaron's Poké Ball.
"Do you want to rest inside the ball? It's quieter there, might help with your recovery."
Odogaron shook its head, then simply curled up on the ground and closed its eyes.
"Alright then."
Su Yi sighed, turning back to prepare food for his other Pokémon.
By the campfire, Su Yi carefully portioned out meals for his Pokémon companions.
Then, sitting beside Rucao and Chansey, he finally enjoyed a rare moment of peaceful dining.
From where it lay, Odogaron tilted its head slightly, watching the scene by the fire.
Great Jagras leisurely chewed on roasted meat, savoring each bite.
Kulu-Ya-Ku cradled a bowl of custard, eating with slow, delicate movements.
Meanwhile, Great Girros was happily gnawing on a chunk of bone-in meat.
Su Yi picked up a slice of sashimi, placing it into Rucao 's bowl, praising it gently.
Chansey, as always, looked cheerful and content.
Odogaron smacked its lips, recalling the warm, comforting taste of the meat custard.
It glanced once more at its carefully bandaged wounds.
Feeling safe and at ease, Odogaron laid its head down and drifted into a deep sleep.
