SUMMONER'S JOURNEY

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: Search for a Home

January 12, X784 – Fairy Tail Guild Hall

The chaos that had erupted moments ago—mugs flying, chairs crashing, and mages brawling—suddenly came to a halt.

A towering shadow loomed over the entire guild.

"YOU BRATS NEVER LEARN, DO YOU?!!"

A deep, thunderous voice echoed through the hall as Makarov Dreyar, the Guild Master of Fairy Tail, transformed into a giant, his head nearly hitting the ceiling.

With a single swoop of his massive hands, he grabbed the rowdiest fighters, smashing them into the ground like they were mere flies.

BOOM!

The impact shook the entire guild hall, and the once-chaotic members now sat silently in their places, obedient like children caught misbehaving.

Makarov, now back to his normal size, climbed onto the bar counter, crossed his arms, and huffed.

"THIS IS A GUILD, NOT A WARZONE!" he scolded. "If you wanna fight, do it outside!"

The entire guild mumbled apologies, their heads bowed.

Richard, who had just dodged a flying table minutes ago, now sat at a far corner, stunned.

"So this is what happened before I entered the guild…?"

---

Just as Richard was processing the madness, a tall woman with light purple hair and glasses stepped forward.

"Master, if you're done, I'll fix everything," she said calmly.

Makarov nodded. "Do what you have to, Laki."

"The Wood-Make: love remains eternal"

As clasped her hands together, and cast her spell suddenly, the broken furniture, and even the cracked floor started mending itself.

The wooden beams stretched and reshaped, chairs returned to their original places, and tables that were once broken in half melded back together like new.

Within minutes, it was as if nothing had happened.

After sometime Mirajane, who had been hit by a flying bottle earlier, had already recovered up completely, smiling like nothing was wrong.

"Wooh her spell is so versatile '" amazed Richard.

'yeah she is Laki , that uses wood maker mage and she is the one that always restore the hall back together , preety amazing right "

Richard blinked.

"They do this regularly, don't they?"

---

With the guild back to normal, Mirajane took charge once again.

She walked up to Richard and gestured toward the guild. "Alright, everyone, I'd like to introduce our newest member!"

Richard stepped forward, now fully realizing that all eyes were on him.

He gave a polite nod. "Nice to meet you all. My name is Richard Luminous. I specialize in Summoning Magic, and I'm looking forward to working with everyone."

The guild members cheered in response.

"Welcome, kid!"

"Hope you can keep up with us!"

Richard smiled as he was greeted by familiar faces.

Macao gave him a thumbs-up.

"Hey kid if you ever need any help you can alway came to'

Wakaba said , despite still recovering from Makarov's punishment, gave a nod.

Laki adjusted her glasses and smiled.

Richard couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging.

"This place is crazy… but it feels good."

---

As the introductions finished, Richard suddenly remembered an important detail—he had nowhere to live.

Turning back to Mirajane, he asked, "Uh… so, does the guild provide places to stay?"

Mirajane smiled. "For female members, yes. Fairy Tail has a dormitory called Fairy Hills where our female wizards stay."

Richard raised an eyebrow. "What about the male mages?"

"They either rent an apartment or a house in Magnolia," Mira explained. "Most of them find places nearby, but there are a few who live in different parts of the city."

Richard sighed. "So that means I'll need to find a place myself."

Mirajane nodded. "Yep! But don't worry, I can help with that!"

"If you're looking for a real estate broker, I know someone who can help," she said, handing Richard a small paper slip with an address.

Richard accepted it gratefully. "Thanks, that helps a lot."

Mirajane smiled. "Since you're new to Magnolia, let me also tell you a few places that might be useful."

After that She began listing important locations:

"If you want good food, try 'The Golden Spoon.' It has great meals at affordable prices."

"The South Magnolia Market has fresh vegetables, meat, and bread at the best prices."

"If you need furniture or repairs, go to 'Toma's Workshop' near the west side of town.

"For magic-based household items, 'Flare's Mystic Emporium' has everything from enchanted lamps to self-washing laundry baskets!"

Richard took mental notes, memorizing the locations as best as he could.

"Got it. I'll check these places out after I find a place to live."

Mirajane clapped her hands together. "Good luck! And don't hesitate to ask if you need anything!"

"Thanks, Mira," Richard said with a smile.

With farewells exchanged, Richard stepped out of the Fairy Tail Guild Hall, heading into Magnolia's bustling streets.

His first stop—the real estate broker.

As he walked through the lively city, he couldn't help but feel excited.

He had finally joined Fairy Tail.

Now, all that was left was finding a place to stay.

---

The streets of Magnolia were filled with life—vendors calling out their daily specials, magic-powered carriages rolling through the streets, and groups of people chatting as they went about their day.

Richard followed Mirajane's directions, soon arriving at a small but well-kept real estate office near the central marketplace.

A wooden sign above the entrance read:

"Magnolia Properties"

Taking a deep breath, Richard stepped inside.

The office was filled with scrolls, maps, and documents, and at the front desk sat an elderly man with round spectacles, flipping through papers.

Noticing Richard, the man adjusted his glasses and gave a welcoming smile.

"Ah, a new face! Welcome, welcome!"

Richard walked up to the counter. "Good afternoon. My name is Richard Luminous, and I'm looking for a place to stay in Magnolia. Mirajane from Fairy Tail recommended your agency."

At the mention of Fairy Tail, the old man's eyes lit up.

"Ah, so young is the member of Fairy Tail," he said, extending his hand, which Richard shook firmly.

"Yes, I recently joined," Richard replied.

The man chuckled. "The name's Gran Dorel—been handling Magnolia's real estate for over forty years. So, are you looking to rent or buy?"

Richard hesitated for a moment before scratching the back of his head. "Umm… I'm not sure yet. Let's start with renting."

Gran let out a hearty laugh. "No problem, lad!" He reached under his desk and pulled out a large scroll filled with listings.

"Let's find you the perfect place!"

Gran unrolled a map of Magnolia, marking the available rental homes and apartments.

"Since you're new here, let me explain your options," Gran began, pointing to three main locations.

1. Central Magnolia – Apartment District

Pros: Close to everything, convenient.

Cons: Smaller space, get noisy sometimes, expensive.

2. Southern Magnolia – Residential Area

Pros: Peaceful, good neighbors, close to markets.

Cons: Slightly expensive, farther from the guild.

3. Western Outskirts – Houses Near the River

Pros: Quiet, spacious, near nature.

Cons: More isolated, long travel distance.

Richard rubbed his chin in thought.

"An apartment would be convenient, but I prefer space. The outskirts might be too far, though."

Although he had around 12 million J after selling his old house and purchasing some magic equipment, he wasn't ready to buy a house yet. Renting was the best option for now.

After some consideration, he decided to focus on the Southern District, as it had a good balance of privacy and accessibility.

"I think I'll check out the Southern Magnolia properties first," Richard said.

Gran flipped through his listings, scanning for available rentals.

"There are currently seven properties for rent in the Southern District," Gran said.

4 apartments

3 houses

"Do you have any specific requirements? Number of rooms, special facilities?" Gran asked.

Richard shook his head. "Not really. I just want something comfortable and private."

"Alright," Gran nodded. "I'll show you a few different options, and we can narrow it down from there."

Richard smiled. "Sounds good."

---

Gran brought out a magic artifact, a rectangular crystal screen that displayed images of the available properties.

Richard raised an eyebrow. 'This feels just like an iPad.'

First Option – An Apartment Near the Market

Size: 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, small balcony.

Pros: Close to shops, well-maintained.

Cons: A bit small, not much space for training.

Richard liked the convenience, but the lack of space was a dealbreaker.

---

Second Option – A Two-Bedroom Apartment

Size: 2 bedrooms, a small study room, shared rooftop access.

Pros: Spacious, good view, rooftop area.

Cons: A bit pricier, still inside a busy area.

This apartment was decent, but Richard still felt like he wanted more space.

"I need room for training and Summoning," he told Gran.

Gran nodded. "Then you should opt for a house—they usually come with a backyard."

---

Third Option – A Small House on a Quiet Street

Size: 2 bedrooms, 1 living/dining room, kitchen, a small front yard.

Pros: Quiet, private, reasonable rent.

Cons: A little farther from the guild.

This seemed promising, but Richard wanted to see other options before deciding.

---

Final Option – A Cozy 2-Story House with a Garden

Size: 3 bedrooms, 1 living and dining room, 1 study, a kitchen, and a large backyard.

Pros: Peaceful, plenty of space, comes with a garden, well-maintained.

Cons: Slightly above budget.

Rent for this house was 200,000 J per month.

But Richard instantly liked this place.

The spacious backyard would allow him to practice magic, and the house felt cozy yet functional.

"Can we visit this property in person?" Richard asked.

Gran nodded. "Of course. Let's go!"

---

The house was exactly as shown in the images—a two-story home with a welcoming porch, clean interior, and a well-maintained backyard.

Richard walked through the wooden-floored rooms, already envisioning his life here.

Gran watched him with an amused smile. "Seems like you like it, huh?"

Richard nodded. "Yeah… it's perfect."

Richard turned to Gran. "I'll rent this house."

Gran nodded, pulling out a rental agreement scroll.

"Good choice! That house has a great structure, and the previous owner maintained it well."

Out of curiosity, Richard asked, "Gran, just asking, but what would be the price of this house if I wanted to buy it?"

Gran stroked his beard. "Well, I'd have to ask the owner if they're willing to sell, but based on market value, it'd be around 8 to 9 million jewels."

Richard's eyes widened. "That expensive, huh…?"

Gran laughed. "Magnolia is a booming city, kid. Good houses don't come cheap!"

Richard sighed, shaking his head. "Well, I'll rent it for now and think about buying it later.

After signing the lease and making the down payment, Richard officially became a tenant of Magnolia.

Gran grinned, handing him a brass key.

"Congratulations, son!."

Richard took the key, a satisfied smile forming on his lips.

"Now I finally have a place to live."
