Chapter 819: Appraisal Skyrockets
"I don't need it," Lin Shen coldly snorted in refusal and turned to leave.
Although he wanted it, once he took it, how could he continue to act cold and aloof in the future? Would it not all be for naught?
Chi Tianai didn't say anything, just silently put the diary away.
Today, Lin Shen did not practice with the Scrap Sword; he was considering how he could use the Dark Bird Temple to escape from Snow Valley.
"Selling myself is too risky; Tian Jiuyou might discover me immediately. He has the ability of Space Law and can come to Snow Valley in an instant. It would be hard for anyone else to arrive faster than him."
Lin Shen mused inwardly, "What if I auction something only people familiar with me would recognize and leave a message written on it?"
He felt this idea might work, but ordinary items would probably not attract attention, and Tian Xun and the others might not see them.
Items that were very noticeable, on the other hand, risked being bought by others.
Moreover, it would be difficult to leave inscriptions on special items like the Scrap Sword.
After much thought, Lin Shen realized he could only take an inexpensive item and then sell it at a high price to possibly catch the attention of Tian Xun and others without it being bought by someone else.
The message couldn't be engraved in an obvious place but somewhere whomever bought it could see only after opening it.
Otherwise, simply by viewing the item's display, one could see his engraved words, which would pose the same risk.
No matter how much Lin Shen thought, he couldn't come up with a suitable item. What could be guaranteed to be bought by someone familiar with him, while also being able to conceal a message?
After considering many possibilities, he found none quite right. He couldn't ensure those familiar with him would definitely see the item and buy it back, while also leaving a message where others couldn't see.
Suddenly, Lin Shen had an idea and hurriedly rummaged through his space.
Soon enough, Lin Shen found an exquisitely small jade box. It was given to him by his Third Brother, Lin Zongzheng, previously.
It was meant to save his life in a desperate fight against Flarela.
He'd never used it and had been keeping it all along; now it was just right for use.
The contents were meant to deal with Flarela and surely wouldn't work against Immortals like the Ice Lotus and Tian Jiuyou, but that wasn't the point.
Lin Shen planned to put a note inside the jade box and then sell it at a high price on Commerce Star.
Such a small jade box might not catch the eye of others, but as long as Third Brother saw it, the problem would be solved.
Knowing Third Brother, he was meticulous and paid close attention to all sorts of news and was very sensitive to information. If the small jade box appeared in the commerce area at such a high price, Third Brother would definitely take notice.
Lin Shen believed that Third Brother would definitely bid for the jade box and there wouldn't be any accidents.
"What exactly did Third Brother put inside the jade box?" A bit of curiosity grew in Lin Shen, wondering what the life-saving item was.
Because his brother cautioned him not to open it unless absolutely necessary, Lin Shen had never done so and didn't know what was inside.
But now, with no need to hesitate, Lin Shen opened the jade box, only to find a folded note inside.
"What the hell... just a note... it couldn't possibly say 'escape quickly', right?" Lin Shen thought with a strange expression.
Taking out the note, he unfolded it and read, "This spell can only be used once, and will not work again after. Use it carefully."
"What's this?" Lin Shen noticed a crease from folding and opened it further, finding more writing.
"Recite the words below, and you shall be kept safe. Remember, only use once, and never in minor situations."
"What trick is this? What words have such power that one can be kept safe just by reciting them?" Lin Shen was curious, unfolding the last crease to suddenly see, "Supreme Old Lord, do it swiftly as the Law commands."
"Oh, come on, Third Brother, you really went there; now is the time for divine intervention? If I could actually summon an Immortal to help, then what's the point of cultivating at all? If I could summon this Great Immortal, I'd be invincible," Lin Shen felt he'd been played by his brother; such ability was beyond him.
Only moments before, he had been confident in Third Brother's reliability, but now he felt uncertain about his own judgment.
"Third Brother, I'll trust you one more time; don't let me down," Lin Shen found some paper and pen, then wrote a note to place in the jade box.
The content Lin Shen wrote was simple, with just a few isolated words: "Tian Jiuyou," "Ice Nightmare Star," "Snow Valley," "Ice Lotus," "Chi Tianai," "Tian Xun."
If, by some misfortune, it was bought by someone else, they wouldn't likely make the connection to him.
If Third Brother got hold of it, with his intelligence, he would surely guess the meaning.
Lin Shen folded both notes well and again went to Commerce Star, placing the jade box on the estimation platform. Read exclusive adventures at My Virtual Library Empire
He'd already decided, no matter the appraisal price of the jade box, he would set a high price, at least one thousand Commerce Star Coins. Surely, very few would spend a thousand Commerce Star Coins on an unknown jade box.
Items being exchanged for Commerce Star Coins were presently priced up to a few hundred at most. Someone previously sold an Immortal Pet for one thousand Commerce Star Coins, and still, no one bought it.
For a small jade box with only a note inside, the price may well be less than one Commerce Star Coin, maybe just a few cents worth, so one thousand would certainly deter buyers.
Considering Third Brother's current status, collecting one thousand Commerce Star Coins shouldn't be difficult.
While Lin Shen was thinking this, a glow burst forth from the platform, presenting the appraisal price for the jade box.
Once Lin Shen saw the appraised price clearly, he was astounded.
"9999... What's going on... Did the valuation of Commerce Star make a mistake?" Lin Shen couldn't believe the price of the small jade box was set at nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine Commerce Star Coins.
The valuation of jade alone was 21 coins; it was already one of the most valuable items appraised in the cosmos, and now the jade box's price had almost reached ten thousand.
Lin Shen truly couldn't imagine what value the jade box could have to be appraised at this price.
He realized something was off when the Spirit of Commerce Star asked if he wanted to sell or trade. Lin Shen immediately chose to refuse all options and took the jade box back.
"Is the jade box really worth that much? Surely the box itself isn't the issue; could it be that those words on the note actually work?" Lin Shen couldn't help thinking of the Jade Emperor.
