Chapter 331: Surfing

The next morning greeted the coast with a bright sun and glistening waves. The sea shimmered like glass, reflecting the golden-blue of the sky in scattered ribbons of light. The scent of salt, warmth, and soft mist kissed the shoreline.

Out on the shallows, a lone figure rode the waves with casual ease—his silver-blue hair trailing behind him, wet and shining under the sun. A custom-crafted water spirit board danced beneath his feet, guided more by instinct and spirit control than mere balance.

Dave, shirtless and laughing, twisted into a sharp arc as the board cut through the surf. He turned sharply and then kicked upward—riding the lift of a cresting wave before diving back down into the trough, water spraying around him in a glittering halo.

From the wooden dock nearby, three women watched with varying expressions.

Meilin stood with one hand on her hip, the other holding a half-melted shaved ice treat, her golden eyes narrowed in a mix of admiration and mock irritation. "Show-off."

Dugu Yan sat cross-legged on a thick beach towel, a wide sunhat perched on her head and a faint blush warming her cheeks as she watched Dave glide over the water. "He makes it look so easy…"

Beside them, Signora stood out like a goddess displaced from a more refined world.

Though she had exchanged her usual regal attire for a sleek, form-fitting swimsuit of black and deep crimson lace—accented with faint frost motifs along the lining—there was still an impossible elegance to her. A sheer silk wrap floated around her legs as though even the sea breeze bowed to her presence.

Her arms crossed just under her chest, she tilted her head slightly.

"He may act casual," she said coolly, "but that level of coordination with elemental movement and wave dynamics is no accident. He's using Water Affinity to read the flow."

Dugu Yan blinked. "Well… Its normal, His Martial Spirit Water related."

"Yes, but he is not just using Water element but Spirit Energy too," Signora answered with a smirk, lips curving slightly.

Just then, Dave flipped backward off the board, letting it spin into the air with a splash, and landed smoothly into the surf. He floated on his back, arms outstretched, grinning as he looked back toward the dock.

"You girls just gonna stare at me all day, or are you joining?"

"I was enjoying the view," Meilin shouted back, then smirked. "But I guess I could make the ocean prettier by stepping in."

"I'll come too!" Dugu Yan said quickly, rising and pulling off her wrap to reveal a soft violet swimsuit with a scaled design reminiscent of her Martial Spirit. Her hair was braided over one shoulder, swaying with each step.

Signora tilted her head. "Well, I suppose if I'm to be your bodyguard, I must ensure no sea monster drags you under."

"You mean you're the sea monster," Meilin said under her breath, snickering as she dove off the dock.

With graceful ease, all three of them slipped into the water, joining Dave out on the shimmering waves.

He laughed and splashed toward them, catching Meilin off-guard with a burst of spirit-enhanced spray.

She retaliated immediately, conjuring a light current beneath him and sending him rolling in the water.

"You dare?" he sputtered.

"You started it!"

Yan joined the chaos, splashing both of them while giggling uncontrollably.

Signora stood aloof in the shallows at first—but when a rogue splash grazed her cheek, her frosty eyes narrowed.

"Oh… I see," she said with dangerous calm.

A second later, a burst of cold mist shimmered across the water's surface as she waved her hand. The tide surged outward—and all three of them were dunked underwater by a small wave of freezing current.

They emerged coughing, soaked, and laughing.

Dave swept his wet hair back and gave Signora a challenging grin. "Hey! that was dangerous."

"And you're all too loud," she teased back.

After another round of splashing and playful rivalry, Dave floated backward, catching his breath with a satisfied grin. The sun shimmered above, and the tide rolled in gently, brushing over his chest like a lullaby.

Then, he stood up on the floating board with practiced ease and called out, "Alright, alright—enough fighting the ocean. Who wants to learn how to actually ride it?"

Meilin raised a brow. "You're not just showing off again, are you?"

"I always show off," Dave said with a wink. "But I can teach too."

"I'm in," Dugu Yan said without hesitation, splashing her way toward him. "It looks amazing."

Signora, still waist-deep in water, crossed her arms skeptically. "And how, exactly, do you intend to teach? These aren't surfboards crafted by mortal hands, are they?"

Dave chuckled. "Nope. These are Water Spirit Boards—infused with water-elemental essence and stabilized by spirit power. You just need good balance and basic spirit flow control. I'll guide you."

He summoned another three boards with a flick of his hand—each surfboard forming out of water and spirit light, solidifying into sleek, smooth shapes under his command. One shimmered violet with dragon-scale patterns for Yan. Another glowed with soft gold and red streaks, fitting for Meilin. The last pulsed with a mix of icy blue and crimson—a perfect match for Signora.

"Step one," Dave said, hopping lightly onto his own, "keep your core steady. Let your spirit energy synchronize with the board's flow."

Dugu Yan stepped on hers with a shaky motion, almost tumbling off immediately—but Dave caught her wrist and steadied her. "Breathe, Yan. You're not fighting the water—you're dancing with it."

She nodded, swallowing a nervous breath, and tried again. This time, the board responded more smoothly, and she began to glide gently over the waves.

"Nice!" Dave called.

Meilin snorted. "Hah, I'm not letting her beat me." With a quick hop, she landed on her board and took off—wobbling slightly, but adjusting quickly thanks to her agile control.

Signora sighed, brushing wet strands of silver-blonde hair from her face. "This is beneath me…"

"Then don't fall," Dave said slyly.
