Chapter 333: Reaper Hui II
"You moved," Signora said, her voice soft but sharp like a blade hidden in silk.
Hui tried to move, but it was useless. Her power gripped him like chains of ice and fire—freezing his spirit energy and locking his body in place.
He stood there frozen, his eyes wide. Level 99… an Ultimate Douluo… He cursed silently. Those fools finally messed up. He blamed the elders of the Dark Heaven Clan for sending him on this suicide mission.
Meilin and Dugu Yan looked at him curiously, not afraid. They knew the truth—unless another Ultimate Douluo showed up, no one could touch them while Signora was here.
Still calm and composed, Signora glanced sideways at Dave. "Should I finish him off?"
Dave stood slowly, brushing the sand off his legs. "Not yet."
Hui's eyes narrowed. He wasn't really a member of the Dark Heaven Clan—not by blood. He was born from a broken background, the child of a slave woman who used to serve one of the branch families.
His mother had once been the heir to a noble clan, but that clan had angered the Dark Heaven Clan and was wiped out because of it. Everyone was killed—except the women. His mother was taken alive, treated as a trophy, and abused by whoever pleased.
He never knew his father. His life had only ever known pain.
That pain shaped him.
Since birth, he was treated as less than a person—just a weapon, a tool. He had no name that mattered. He didn't exist… until the Dark Heaven Clan discovered his incredible talent for killing.
They gave him a fake name. A title. A mask.
But never freedom.
If she kills me now… how will I ever take revenge for my mother? he thought, staring at Signora with anger in his eyes.
But under that anger… was something else. Confusion. Maybe even awe.
The way she stood there—powerful, calm, dominating—it stirred something in him.
What if I tricked her? he thought. What if I made her hate the Dark Heaven Clan too? She could destroy them… and I'd finally get revenge.
A dark idea began to form. I'll speak against them. I'll curse them in front of her. She'll hate them. She'll destroy everything they ever built.
He didn't even realize he was smiling slightly.
But Signora noticed.
"How odd," she said, tightening her hold on him. "You tried to kill someone close to my Master… and now you're thinking of serving me, aren't you?"
Hui's eyes went wide—she had seen straight into his thoughts.
"N-No! That's not what I was thinking!" he stammered. "I'm just a slave! I was trained… forced to obey them! You're Level 99… of course I'm scared! I never had a choice…"
He gasped, still trapped by her ice. "But if you spare me, I can show you the way to the main branch of their clan. It's hidden—no one else knows the path. Only I can guide you there."
"Let me stay with you," he begged. "I'll help you destroy them. Even their top elders… The one you already killed—Elder Guo—they don't know it was you. I can keep them blind until it's too late."
"You're really desperate," Signora said quietly, tilting her head.
"How interesting."
But Dave stepped forward, voice steady. "When you attacked earlier… you didn't enjoy it, did you?"
Hui flinched. Dave had used his demonic sensing skill on him.
"I didn't feel hatred from you," Dave continued. "I felt something else. Regret. When you went after Yan, your aim was off. You weren't focused. And when Signora caught you…"
Dave's gaze sharpened.
"You seemed relieved."
Hui looked down, shaking.
"I… I…" he started to say, but couldn't finish. The words caught in his throat.
Then, barely above a whisper, he said, "I'm sorry, Mother…"
He took a deep breath and began to tell the full truth—his background, his pain, everything he had endured.
After a moment, Dave reached into his storage ring and pulled out a small vial. Inside was a single drop of deep red liquid. It looked thick, heavy, dangerous.
"If you drink this," Dave said, holding the vial toward the sun, "you'll gain the power of an Ultimate Douluo for one day. But after that, it's over. You won't die right away—but your cultivation will be gone. You'll become just a normal person. Level 9. No chance of growing stronger ever again."
He walked over and offered it to Hui.
"I won't force you. It's your choice. If you take it, use the time for whatever you think is right."
Hui stared at it, hands shaking. Then, after a pause, he took it.
"I can finally do something with this life," he muttered.
Without another word, he unsealed the vial and drank the liquid.
Instantly, a powerful energy surged from his body. Red veins lit up across his skin like lava, and a glowing red light flared from his chest. A distant roar echoed as a ghostly image formed behind him.
"Arghhh—!" Hui screamed as his power exploded.
The entire beach trembled from the energy he released.
"I… I'm an Ultimate Douluo now," he gasped. "Even if it's just for one day… thank you. If I survive, I'll come back."
He gave a deep bow—no longer a cold killer, but someone with a goal.
Then he disappeared in a blur of speed, vanishing toward his target.
Signora raised an eyebrow. "What was that?"
Dave exhaled, walking to the water's edge.
"It's a cursed potion," he said. "It gives someone Ultimate Douluo power for 24 hours… but after that, they lose everything. They become stuck at Level 9. Forever."
Signora looked out at the horizon, thoughtful.
"You're kind," she said quietly.
Dave just smiled.
Signora turned her gaze to Dave, watching him with something between admiration and curiosity.
"You didn't have to give him that chance," she said softly, walking beside him. "He tried to kill your people. He nearly struck Dugu Yan. And yet… you spared him. Gave him power, even."
Dave kept his eyes on the horizon, the waves lapping quietly at his feet.
