Superman - Rise of an Empire

Chapter 19: Chapter 20 – The New War Begins

The Batcave was dimly lit, the glow of the computer screens casting shadows across the cavernous space. Bruce stood with his arms crossed, watching as Clark descended from the sky.

Superman was back.

But he wasn't the same.

Bruce had known Clark for over twenty years, had fought beside him, had even fought against him. But what stood before him now was something entirely different.

Clark landed lightly, his red cape settling behind him. His presence alone was enough to shake the room.

"Nice entrance," Bruce said, voice flat.

Clark smirked. "I missed this place."

Diana stepped forward, placing a hand on Clark's chest. "You're different."

Clark nodded. "Stronger. Faster. The serum didn't just make me immune to Kryptonite—it enhanced everything. And now, with my full power back…" He exhaled, shaking his head. "I don't even know my limits anymore."

Bruce's expression remained unreadable, but inside, he was already calculating.

"Then it's time we put that power to use."

The League Strikes Back

An alert blared through the Batcave's systems. A map of the world appeared on the main screen, glowing red in multiple locations.

Talia hadn't been idle.

"She's moving faster than we expected," Bruce said. "Multiple attacks on government facilities, high-value targets, and metahuman safe zones. The League of Shadows isn't hiding anymore. They're at war."

Clark's jaw tightened. "Where's Talia?"

Bruce typed something into the console. "The main attack is happening here—Metropolis."

Clark's fists clenched.

"Then that's where I'll be."

The Battle for Metropolis

The city was already burning when Clark arrived. Smoke billowed from collapsed skyscrapers, streets cracked from explosions, and panic spread through the air like wildfire.

The League's enhanced warriors were tearing through the city, their power rivaling metahumans. Waller's forces, the remnants of the Justice League, and the GCPD fought desperately to hold the line, but they were losing ground fast.

Clark landed in the center of the chaos, his eyes glowing red.

A squad of enhanced warriors turned toward him.

They didn't hesitate.

They attacked.

Clark moved faster than sight, his fist crashing into the first warrior's chest. The sheer force of the impact sent him flying through three buildings. The next warrior lunged, blade drawn, but Clark caught it mid-air and crushed it with his bare hand before delivering a devastating punch that sent shockwaves through the battlefield.

Another came from behind. Clark didn't even turn. He simply flicked his wrist, and the warrior was thrown back as if hit by a hurricane.

They weren't just losing.

They were nothing to him now.

Talia's Last Move

Across the battlefield, Talia stood atop a ruined tower, watching the destruction unfold.

This wasn't how it was supposed to go.

Superman was too strong.

He had gone beyond her calculations.

She gritted her teeth and pulled out a final trigger device. If she couldn't defeat him in battle—then she would make sure Metropolis died with him.

"Goodbye, beloved."

She pressed the button.

Across the city, hidden explosives activated. Metropolis was rigged to fall.

Superman's Ultimate Test

Clark heard the beeping. His enhanced senses took in every explosion before they could go off. Thousands of detonators. Millions of lives at stake.

He only had seconds.

His mind raced, processing every possible outcome, every possible action. And then—

He moved.

Time itself seemed to slow as Clark launched into the air, his speed breaking past the limits of physics. His hands blurred as he tore through the city, ripping explosives from their foundations before they could detonate.

One after another.

Hundreds.

Thousands.

His vision locked onto every threat simultaneously, his mind operating on a level beyond comprehension. This wasn't just super speed.

This was omniscience in motion.

Within moments, every bomb was in his hands.

But there was no time to dispose of them.

One solution left.

Clark shot straight into space, carrying the bombs with him. The moment he reached the void—

BOOM.

A massive explosion erupted behind him, sending a shockwave across the upper atmosphere. The entire Earth trembled from the force.

For a moment, everything was silent.

Then, from the fire and chaos—

Superman emerged, completely unharmed.

He descended back to Earth like a god returning from the heavens.

The End of Talia

Talia stared in shock.

She had lost.

Superman landed in front of her, his expression unreadable.

"It's over," he said simply.

Talia took a step back. She had planned for everything. His loss of powers. His emotional weaknesses. His physical limits.

But she had never planned for this.

Before she could react, a Batarang sliced through the air, knocking her weapon away.

Bruce emerged from the shadows. "You're done, Talia."

She clenched her fists, but she knew there was no escape.

The League of Shadows was defeated.

And now, the world belonged to Superman once more.

The War is Over… But a New Threat Rises

As the smoke cleared, Diana approached Clark. "It's finished."

Clark looked toward the horizon. He could hear the world. Every heartbeat. Every whisper.

And in the depths of space…

Something was watching.

Something worse than Talia.

Superman narrowed his eyes.

The war for Earth had ended.

But the war for the universe…

Had just begun.

TO BE CONTINUED…
