Chapter 129 Xiaohongmao Invades the Alliance (Part 2)

Qing Ya.

The moment she heard this name, Magical Girl Xiaohongmao placed her hands crossed over her skirt, sweating profusely.

"Is that true, Dad is coming?" she wondered. "I really give up, how did a perfectly normal magic girl initiation ceremony suddenly turn into a family gathering... So it turns out there are two magic girls in one family, and both are working at the Alliance, would he get so angry he becomes depressed?"

To be honest, she had thought that the next time she saw Qing Ya, it would either be in the guise of the blue owl or as the Dice Monster...

But she absolutely, absolutely did not anticipate, damn it, that right when she was transforming into a magic girl and competing in acting skills with her younger sister, her Dad suddenly decided to visit the Alliance!

Ke Mingye had been so immersed in his acting that he almost got into the role of the poverty-stricken orphan girl, his tears nearly falling as he spoke passionately.

But now, having heard from Xizi Yue that Qing Ya was coming, his immersion broke at the speed of light—what had been the warm and lovely "Magic Girl bonding" session instantly turned into a simulation of "playing an invisible character in a role-playing game suddenly caught by Dad during a dorm check," making one just want to run away, not stay another half second.

Yet he hadn't even signed the contract with the Alliance, so it wasn't like he could say he was busy picking up garbage or that eggs were on sale at the supermarket. After all, Xizi Yue had just issued his salary, and running away right after taking the money would be dishonorable.

Torture...

Utmost torture...

At that moment, sitting next to Magical Girl Xiaohongmao, Ash too felt restless upon hearing the code name "Qing Ya," a brainstorm racing through her mind.

"Qing Ya?" she thought. "That detestable terror of a Crow Man? He couldn't be here just because I haven't disclosed my identity publicly, could he? How could a member of the Superhero Association be so meddlesome."
Experience tales with empire

In all of Huanjing, only two people had ever instilled fear in her, one of them being that strange thing, and the other being Qing Ya.

She remembered once, that damnable Crow Man had chased her halfway around Huanjing, and it was only near Old Jingmai District that she managed to shake him off!

In Ash's eyes, Qing Ya was simply a stealthy perverted stalker among superheroes. If it weren't for the fact that she couldn't beat him, she would spit in his face each time she passed him!

"Hey, Master, can we not let this Qing Ya come over?" she sighed.

Xizi Yue said, "No, he says he has something to ask you, so here he is."

"Ask me?" Magical Girl Ash frowned, "What does he want, to force me to reveal my identity?"

Xizi Yue said, "No, it's about Wanxiang City. Didn't you complain to me last night about going out and suddenly encountering a bunch of ninjas, along with a dragon that looked like it needed a beating?"

"Oh... okay then."

Magical Girl Ash said unhappily, thinking for a moment before resting her chin on her palm, carelessly turning her face to look out the window.

The school's playground was empty, no one on the running track, and the football field surrounded by the track overgrown with weeds, the ragged net sagging on the ground.

She thought to herself, I must keep my mouth shut later, if I accidentally reveal that the dragon is my little brother, and those ninjas were targeting my little brother, then that would be the end.

Xiaohongmao sat beside her, similarly spaced-out.

"Wanxiang City?" she thought. "That makes sense, because the Ninja Sect was causing trouble, all the surveillance cameras in Wanxiang City and the nearby streets were malfunctioning at the time, so my arrival on the scene couldn't have been caught on camera."

"And I remember that inside Wanxiang City, those bystanders had been dragged by the ninjas to a corner. Their phones were probably confiscated too, so there should be no way they could film me and Bai Zini fighting together... At most, they might mention it during questioning later."

"Dad must be coming for my little sister, not for me. After all, my joining was so sudden, how could he possibly know I'm here in advance..."

Thinking this, Xiaohongmao breathed a sigh of relief.

"The contract is ready. Just place your fingertip at the very bottom and that's all, you don't need to fill anything else out."

The voice of Xizi Yue broke through their thoughts.

As she spoke, she removed a sheet of blank paper from the Magic Book, lifted her finger, and wrapped the contract in magic, letting it float leisurely towards Xiaohongmao.

When the white paper floated in front of Xiaohongmao, it suddenly became covered in dense black text, turning into a genuine contract.

"So I just need to sign it and that's it?" she asked as she took the contract.

Xizi Yue, biting into a chip, said nonchalantly, "Yes, I said you should join, so who else could say you shouldn't?"

Xiaohongmao continued, "I don't need approval from anyone else in the Alliance?"

"I am the highest authority at the Huanjing Division. Although I'm not sure who you are referring to, if it's Lilai and Udina, one runs the England Division and the other the Russia Division; they hardly have time to care about this side."

"Oh, I see."

Xiaohongmao nodded as she looked down at the contract.

As Xizi Yue popped another chip into her mouth, she said, "Now then, Ash, why don't you introduce our rules to our new member?"

"You're really lazy, Master. Shouldn't you be the one to say it?"

"Should I dock your pay then?"

Magical Girl Ash's eyelid twitched at the words, her clean face etched with annoyance.

But after locking eyes with Xizi Yue for two seconds, she reluctantly caved to the tyranny of the pay cut and began to introduce the basic rules of the Alliance impatiently.

"First, magic girls are forbidden to kill."

"Secondly, the identity of a magic girl is only disclosed to internal members, you better not reveal your identity to people around you, even your parents."

Xiaohongmao said, "I don't have parents."

Ash was momentarily startled, realizing she had said the wrong thing. She flustered for a moment then, with a frown, shook her head vehemently.

"Change 'parents' to 'family' here."

"I don't have a family either."

"Never mind... you get the idea. Just pretend I said 'friends'."

"You're the only friend I have," Xiaohongmao said.

Ash covered her chest and took a deep breath, the guilt bubbling up in her chest making her scalp tingle.

She thought, I really deserve to die.

"Let's skip that and continue," she said.

She lifted her hand to her chin, tapping the tabletop lightly with the fingers of her other hand as she spoke.

"In some countries, there are ranks among Magic Girls, but in our Huanjing branch, there are no ranks among Magic Girls except for the president, and everyone else has equal status."

"The salary is usually a fixed wage plus commission, with higher compensation for resolving more incidents. Just a heads up, our base salary is pitiful. If you want a higher salary, you either need high popularity to earn through endorsements and advertisements, or just honestly solve more criminal cases and public assignments to get commissions."

"If your performance is outstanding, not only will you receive an additional salary reward, but you will also get the chance to choose your preferred card from the Magic Card library."

"Besides, as long as you join the Alliance, every week you can collect some basic, generic Magic Cards from the Alliance's card collection room, like 'Fireball Technique', 'Magic Power Supply', and so on..."

Ash paused and said with disdain, "However, it's not really necessary. For instance, I never collect those. When I really need it, I just make a couple of cards myself."

Xizi Yue sipped tea she had apparently procured from nowhere and slowly said, "That's because you hardly ever use cards, so of course you don't need to collect them."

"I do use them sometimes, okay? Master, you're always smearing me!"

"What else is there, senior?" Xiaohongmao asked.

"Let's see…" Ash said, "Magic Girls are prohibited from using magic cards and magic power in everyday life, like during school exams and official tests. If caught, they would be directly expelled from the Alliance."

She drew a circle on the table with her index finger and continued, "But compared to other Alliance branches, our requirements here are more relaxed. You can use a magic card if you want in normal situations, just so long as you don't cause big trouble—for example, if you want to eat an extra dessert at a dessert shop, you can use the magic card 'Dessert Duplicator' to duplicate a cake.

As long as you don't harm others or break the law, it's fine."

Xiaohongmao asked, "What about exams, can I use it then?"

"Don't you not go to school?"

"I'm just giving an example."

"Magic Girls are already busy maintaining public order, so there's not much time left for studying. Using a magic card to cheat in academic exams isn't a no-go; otherwise, managing studies and chasing criminals over the years would surely lead to a brain thrombosis,"

Magical Girl Ash snorted twice and spoke righteously, her tone not sounding like a joke.

Xiaohongmao looked confused, thinking to herself that this statement wasn't very politically correct.

Xizi Yue didn't express any opinion, keeping one eye open and the other closed.

In other countries' Alliances, using Magic Cards to cheat in academic exams by Magic Girls would result in severe criticism and instant expulsion, but that rule doesn't apply here.

As long as nobody finds out, it's fine.

Not being discovered equals non-existence, but if exposed, as long as it doesn't negatively impact the Alliance due to media coverage, Xizi Yue would protect them.

If the situation blew up to the extent of being exposed on the internet, then Xizi Yue would have no choice but to forsake them to preserve the Alliance's reputation—bearing in mind that the Chinese highly value fairness in academic examinations, even celebrities who gain entrance to prestigious schools through backdoor connections face intense criticism, let alone Magic Girls already under the spotlight.

While talking, Ash suddenly mentioned, "Oh, by the way, that 'Dessert Duplicator' card I mentioned earlier was created by my master. Out of the hundreds of Magic Girls in the Alliance, she is the one who loves desserts the most."

"Really?" Xizi Yue said blandly, "It seems you don't want your salary this month, Ash."

Ash ignored her and said fervently to Xiaohongmao, "Also, be careful of witches, you know what a witch is, right?"

Xiaohongmao nodded, "Fallen Magic Girls, usually those transformed from contracted magical girls."

"Right, those witches are bad news, targeting us Magic Girls and Contracted Beasts. With your current strength, it's best to stay away from them, don't engage."

"I understand."

Xiaohongmao hesitated then asked, "But, when that comet falls down a year from now, we'll all revert to being ordinary people, and so will the witches. Why then do the witches want to collect comet fragments?"

Xizi Yue answered in place of Ash, "They have already lost themselves; don't try to understand their motives and actions with normal human logic."

"I understand."

Xizi Yue nodded, setting down her teacup, "Hmm, that about covers the important stuff. The rest will come naturally once you've been around here a little longer."

"So, how many days a week should I come over?"

Xizi Yue replied, "In other regions of the Alliance, there are strict requirements on weekly attendance, but there aren't any here, coming in once a week is enough."

She paused and added, "By the way, that person I was talking about earlier, he's already outside."

As those words fell, Xiaohongmao suddenly turned her head and saw a dark figure standing outside the corridor window. He seemed to have been waiting there for a long time, though neither Xiaohongmao nor Ash had noticed him.

The next moment, the figure enveloped in a dark cape walked in, slowly lifting his deep eyes, the beak on his face probing forward.

Xiaohongmao gasped, looking at this frightful Crow Man who had just returned from a honeymoon abroad, loudly complaining in her mind.

"Dad, can't you stop meddling in places that don't match your style? This is clearly a 2D cutesy magical girl scene; it'd be best if you took your gloomy dark hero vibe and rolled as far away as possible..."
