Superman's Saiyan little brother

Chapter 586: Chapter 585: S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Powerhouses

It's important to understand that mastering any kind of supernatural power is no easy feat, especially when it comes to those that can be mass-produced. Few factions can truly master such powers. Even the Super Soldier Serum, which has been around the longest and is the most widespread, cannot guarantee complete success without side effects, nor can any faction ensure a 100% success rate upon injection.

If they could, every faction would have long transformed all their subordinates into super soldiers. Even the leaders of these factions would be tempted by the super soldiers' formidable longevity and power. After all, Steve Rogers has lived for so long and still appears robust and energetic.

Unfortunately, neither the Super Soldier Serum nor other supernatural means can guarantee success or absence of side effects. Therefore, upon learning about the orcs and Baron Strucker's experiments, various factions have placed great importance on any newly emerging supernatural methods. This is why the Lizard Doctor, once exposed, has caught the attention of countless official agencies.

Unaware that he was being targeted not only by the Avengers but also by numerous official agencies, the Lizard Doctor continued to immerse himself in his experiments. However, some experimental materials couldn't be conjured out of thin air.

Although the Lizard Doctor had some materials and equipment stored elsewhere, these were insufficient for researching how to enhance his power. If he needed only lizard-related materials, he could easily catch lizards in the wild, given his sensory abilities. Finding and capturing lizards wasn't difficult for him.

But beyond lizards, he needed other materials. If the entire experimental process were that simple, he wouldn't have needed so many investments before.

Thus, out of necessity, the Lizard Doctor had to disguise himself to purchase some required materials. This act of buying supplies exposed his whereabouts.

Although the Lizard Doctor could hide his body under a cloak, he still needed money to buy things. Others might not know his identity, but Tony Stark did and had JARVIS constantly monitoring the Lizard Doctor's bank card transactions.

Of course, Connors' disappearance couldn't remain hidden for long. Even though Tony Stark had packed up everything from Connors' lab, other agencies would eventually investigate Connors' research on lizards and regeneration, leading them to Connors. Fortunately, the Avengers had the upper hand for now.

"Who will go check it out? The Lizard Doctor's strength is quite average. From analyzing his serum, he can lift objects weighing less than ten tons, and he has fast reflexes and agility. His body defense is bulletproof..." Tony Stark asked the Avengers after receiving JARVIS's information.

One Lizard Doctor didn't warrant the mobilization of all the Avengers. Peter Parker and others who had returned after hearing about the campus incident were about to leave when they heard the latest intelligence on the Lizard Doctor. Peter looked eager, while the others exchanged glances.

"Quick reflexes and agility? Then I should go!" Peter Parker volunteered, smiling as he saw the others' expressions.

"Be careful. He may not breathe fire, but he might have conducted further research after losing to Otto. His purchase records show he bought experimental supplies, suggesting he's trying to enhance himself," Tony Stark cautioned, handing Peter a serum.

"If he's still in his previous state, this serum can turn him back into a normal human. But if he's further evolved, avoid injecting him with it to prevent new mutations."

"I understand!" Peter Parker nodded, taking the serum and swiftly leaving the Avengers' base to track the Lizard Doctor. The other Avengers also dispersed, attending to their own matters.

As Tony Stark initially surmised, despite the Lizard Doctor killing many, his strength didn't warrant the entire Avengers' mobilization. If Otto had undergone more training, he could have captured the Lizard Doctor himself.

Meanwhile, after successfully purchasing a large amount of experimental supplies, the Lizard Doctor returned to his sewer hideout to continue his experiments, unaware that the Avengers had discovered him. Even if he knew, he wouldn't stop his experiments, as this was his only chance to turn the tables.

However, Peter Parker's pursuit of the Lizard Doctor wasn't smooth. Although he found the sewer entrance where the Lizard Doctor disappeared, the city's sewer system was incredibly complex. Without surveillance in the sewers, Peter had to rely on traces and clues to find the Lizard Doctor.

In such an environment, even Venom didn't bother to help. Peter understood why the other Avengers showed little interest in pursuing the Lizard Doctor after hearing about his escape into the sewers.

"If only Ro... Seiyan were here, he could probably sense the Lizard Doctor's location directly!" Peter muttered while searching. "But if we rely on the Seiyan for every little thing, there would be no point in our actions. Seiyan and Superman could handle everything."

"Found the Lizard Doctor's identity!" In S.H.I.E.L.D.'s base, Coulson reported excitedly to Nick Fury but paused upon noticing others in the office.

Besides Coulson and Fury, the office also housed Rumlow, Black Widow, and a frail-looking scholar who didn't seem fit for hearing classified information.

"Hmm... Rumlow, you may leave," Fury said after a moment's thought, surveying the room.

"Yes, Director!" Rumlow cursed inwardly but maintained a neutral expression as he nodded and left the office.

"You may proceed. We need his help for this operation," Fury said to Coulson with a smile. "We now have a strong pillar in our team, without which we couldn't claim to be the world's strongest agency, not even stronger than one of the military branches..."

Previously, the military had showcased greater strength than S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Eye of Heaven when confronting the Avengers. The military's accomplishments in the supernatural world had far exceeded expectations.

Even though Bluech lost to Seiyan and Hellboy seemingly allied with him, their strength still far surpassed what S.H.I.E.L.D. and other supernatural agencies could accept. Numerous agencies, including S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Eye of Heaven, had extended invitations to Hellboy and Bluech, offering better terms but ultimately failing.

The military's resources, even after being divided among various factions, remained formidable. The exposure of Bluech and Hellboy increased their respective factions' influence, which S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Eye of Heaven couldn't match in terms of attracting such talent.

Therefore, Fury was eager to recruit powerful individuals. Whether due to luck or destiny, he managed to find one.

The frail-looking scholar standing beside Black Widow was actually one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new powerhouses. This wasn't his first encounter with official agencies. When the giant ape Robert first appeared, this scholar had also been present, albeit in a different form—as a green giant.

Yes, the scholar was Bruce Banner, who transformed into the Hulk, the same Hulk whom Clark punched away that night!

Hulk had been both fortunate and rational that night. During his fight with Abomination, their destruction caught Robert and Clark's attention. To relocate the battlefield, Clark punched both Hulk and Abomination away, sending them to Robert.

Upon regaining his senses, Hulk realized that Clark was far beyond his ability to contend with and quickly left the scene. Abomination, on the other hand, taunted Robert, leading to a different fate.

Hulk successfully escaped and went into hiding, while Abomination was left in pieces by Robert. The military might eventually create a new Abomination, but it wouldn't be the same as the previous one.

Bruce Banner, after a long period of wandering, was eventually found by S.H.I.E.L.D. Black Widow convinced him to return to America and join S.H.I.E.L.D.

S.H.I.E.L.D. provided Banner with top-notch facilities for his research when off-duty and only required him to transform into Hulk for missions. Although Hulk's condition wasn't entirely stable, Black Widow's presence ensured he could perform his tasks, leading to her becoming his personal protector.

"The Lizard Doctor is named Curtis Connors, a biology professor researching limb regeneration through lizard tail regrowth. It appears his experiment failed or mutated..." Coulson explained after glancing at Banner.

"Having identified Connors, we tracked his spending and found he purchased more experimental supplies after his disappearance, suggesting he intends to continue his research."

"Good! Coulson, you will lead this mission. Black Widow and Dr. Banner will execute it. Do not disappoint me; we must bring Connors back intact. He's a valuable asset!" Fury ordered, looking seriously at the trio.

"Yes, Director!" Coulson and Black Widow responded in unison. Banner remained silent, knowing he wasn't the one to decide Connors' fate.

"Don't worry, I'll persuade him," Black Widow said with a charming smile, making Banner's heart skip a beat.

Thus began Bruce Banner's first mission with S.H.I.E.L.D. Moreover, S.H.I.E.L.D. wasn't the only agency that discovered Connors' identity. Other official agencies also identified him through various clues.

Although Tony Stark had sealed some information, the student who escaped from the lab survived. With testimonies from him and other witnesses, it was impossible to completely hide Connors' identity. Consequently, one by one, official agencies dispatched their operatives.
