Chapter 13: Chapter 13: A Fire Mage
The night passed uneventfully, with each of them taking turns standing guard every three hours. Fortunately, no monsters disturbed their rest.
Even while Kierra kept watch, Victor remained half-awake. Because trust was a fragile concept in the wilderness, where no laws or restrictions prevented others from committing the unthinkable.
As the first light of dawn filtered through the gaps in the cave's entrance, the distant chirping of birds and the calls of wild hens stirred Victor from his light sleep.
Blinking against the brightness, he stretched and sat up—only to realize something was off.
Kierra was gone.
"Did she leave?" he murmured, rubbing his eyes. "Seems like it."
There were no signs of struggle, no disturbances in the cave. It looked like she had simply left without a word.
Shrugging off the thought, Victor stood and prepared for his second day in Supreme Game.
By tomorrow, the exit button would be enabled. Until then, he had to survive—and grow stronger.
Victor stepped out of the cave, greeted by the warmth of a bright and healthy morning. The crisp scent of nature and blooming flowers filled the air, refreshing his senses.
With the new Iron Dagger in hand, he walked forward for a few minutes until a small pond came into view.
Just as he was about to approach it, a cheerful voice rang out from behind the bushes, coming from his blind spot.
"Ohh, you're awake!"
Victor's eyes narrowed slightly. "Kierra?"
The girl revealed herself, holding the water bag in her hands.
"Who else?" she said with a shrug "I went to fetch some fresh water to drink. Last night, you drank it all. Did you forget?"
Victor said, "No, I didn't. I just thought you had already left."
He didn't stop, continuing toward the pond to freshen up.
"Why would I?" Kierra followed behind him, tiptoeing playfully. "We should team up to survive!"
Victor glanced at her but said nothing.
"You should feel honored, actually," she added with a proud grin. "I have a Mage class!"
Victor paused just as he crouched down to scoop some water from the pond.
"You have a Mage class?" he asked skeptically. "Why don't you prove it? If what you're saying is true, I'll gladly team up with you."
Without waiting for her response, he began washing his face and hair, rinsing off the sticky grime and dust from the night before.
Just then, he noticed something surprising.
"Huh? Is this Raizel's face or someone else's?"
From the clear reflection in the water, he could see the new changes in his face and hair. His eyes now held a shade of red, and his hair was unnaturally silvery white. It appeared that, this Raizel was now a completely different person from the past with nerdy personality.
'Sigh...This is definitely going to cause some problems in the real world. I wonder how would Raizel's parents react to these changes?'
'Well, whatever. I will deal with when the time comes.' He shrugged and began cleaning his mouth next.
However, just as he finished cleaning his mouth, he caught sight of Kierra's confident smirk from the corner of his eye.
Then—
Sizzle!
A sharp crackling sound echoed through the air.
Victor turned his head just in time to see a small flame forming above Kierra's outstretched fingers, twisting and compressing into the shape of an arrow.
Whoosh!
With a flick of her hand—
Sizzle! Sizzle!
The fiery arrow shot forward, striking a nearby tree with a small burst of embers. The bark blackened instantly, smoke curling into the air.
Victor blinked. "...Alright, I'm convinced."
Kierra smirked proudly. "Hehehe, you should be. Because I am... a Fire Mage."
Victor let out a chuckle as he stood up.
"A mage with a dagger? That's an odd combination, don't you think?"
"Hmph, hmph!" She crossed her arms smugly. "This dagger is just for defense. And from now on, you'll be my defense. How do you like that idea, Raizel?"
Victor raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Then why don't you give me that dagger of yours?" His gaze turned toward the weapon strapped to her waist, his eyes gleaming with obvious greed.
Kierra immediately took a step back, clutching the dagger protectively. "Impossible! I don't have any extra weapons other than this. Don't be so greedy, Raizel!" she huffed, wearing a wary expression.
Victor shrugged. "Fine... I was just joking anyway." His tone was casual, as if he didn't care, but the way his eyes lingered on the weapon made Kierra keep her guard up.
"So, where should we go next?" Victor asked, stepping forward.
"Hmph, now we're talking business." Kierra smirked. "I know just the place for hunting and treasures." Her eyes gleamed with excitement.
"Treasures?" Victor's interest piqued instantly, his eyes lighting up. He seemed even more eager than she was.
"Yes, treasures," Kierra confirmed with a confident nod. "And who knows? We might even find a better weapon for you." She chuckled, amused by his almost childlike curiosity.
"Alright then, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Victor said, his anticipation clear.
Without wasting time, Kierra took the lead, her expression shifting from playful to vigilant.
After a few steps, Victor narrowed his eyes and smirked. "Wait… you're not leading me into a trap, are you?" he teased, though he wasn't entirely ruling out the possibility.
Kierra rolled her eyes. "Tsk, what do you have that's worth betraying you for? Your torn shirt and ragged pants?"
Victor felt a little embarrassed but not offended. She was just being brutally honest, that's all.
Without another word, he followed quietly behind her, weaving through towering trees and massive leaves.
"Be careful, Raizel," Kierra warned, her tone serious. "Some of these trees are alive. They can swallow you whole in an instant."
Victor gulped, his instincts already on high alert. The air felt thick, charged with something unnatural. It was as if unseen eyes were watching them from all directions.
Suddenly—
A grotesque splitting sound tore through the silence.
A nearby plant's core split open, revealing jagged teeth like those of a shark.
"Behind you!" Victor warned, his body moving instinctively. He lunged forward, gripping his dagger tightly, his increased agility kicking in.
Slash!
But a red flash streaked past him.
Before he could even react, the monstrous plant was split clean down the middle.
Victor's eyes widened. So fast!
It was Kierra.
She had moved before he could even make a move, her blade cutting through the monster in a single, effortless strike.
Victor stood frozen for a moment, his mind racing.
'She's supposed to be a mage, right? What kind of spell lets her move that fast?'
His eyes drawn to her, taking in the sight of her confident stance, her dagger still gleaming with the fresh cut.
It was only then that he realized: he never stood a chance against her, even with his anti-magic ability. Her raw physical strength alone was overwhelming.
Her level must be far higher than his too.
