Chapter 14: Chapter 14: Grabby Monkeys
'I got experience points? Is it because I'm teamed up with her?' Victor wondered internally.
"Shall we continue?" Kierra asked with a smirk.
"Ah, sure..." Victor snapped out of his thoughts and replied calmly.
They walked for about fifteen minutes before arriving at a towering tree with massive branches stretching in all directions.
[ Grabby Monkey's Nest ]
[ Danger Level: Medium ]
[ Possible Resources: Low-tier Treasures and Pets ]
As the notification flashed before Victor's eyes, he blinked in surprise.
'This place is well hidden and packed with resources. No wonder Kierra was so secretive about it. Maybe she knows more places like this…'
Teaming up with her was definitely the right choice.
"See? Incredible location, right?" Kierra said, her eyes gleaming with anticipation, waiting for praise.
"Indeed, it is. But can we really take them down, Kierra? They seem fast, intelligent and more flexible in the trees. Do you have a plan in mind?" Victor asked calmly.
"Yes, of course." She placed her hands on her hips. "They likely have cubs and treasures in their nest. You'll sneak in and steal one while I distract them with my fire spell. Simple, right?"
"Oh, but I forgot to remind you of one thing—"
She suddenly paused, her eyes widening in disbelief as if she had just witnessed something ridiculous.
"Raizel… your dagger?" she muttered, confusion evident in her voice.
"My dagger? It's right in my—" Victor paused mid-sentence, feeling something was off.
His hand was empty.
When he looked down, the Iron Dagger was gone.
Someone had stolen it.
Then it clicked.
His mind replayed the scene in slow motion—one of the monkeys had swiped it with an impossibly swift movement.
"Damn it! Those thieving bastards stole my dagger!" Victor barked, his eyes nearly spitting fire as he glared up at the mischievous creatures in the trees.
"Hahaha..." Kierra burst into giggles upon seeing his dumbfounded expression.
"I was just trying to remind you, Raizel. They're not called 'Grabby Monkeys' for nothing, you know. Oh, I almost feel sorry for you now."
Victor took a deep breath, forcing himself to stay calm. But inside, his resolve hardened—these monkeys needed to be taught a lesson. Their smug taunting after stealing his weapon only made things worse.
"Kierra, we'll go with the plan. Before, I might have hesitated to take the risk, but now? I have to make them pay for messing with me." His voice carried a dangerous edge.
Sensing his anger, Kierra wisely shut her mouth.
"Okay, Raizel. Go hide behind that tree. I'll distract them for you. But don't get any funny ideas. I mean don't take all the treasures for yourself," she warned playfully.
Victor scoffed. "Hey, do I look that greedy? I may be poor, but I have morals. Be mindful of that," he shot back before slipping into position as instructed.
'Morals? That's a cheap word, Raizel,' Kierra muttered under her breath before shifting her focus back to the task at hand.
With a flick of her fingers, once again a sizzling Piercing Fire Arrow materialized. Unlike a regular arrow, this one pulsed with intense heat, capable of inflicting far more damage.
Locking onto her target, she narrowed her eyes. The moment the fire arrow reached full intensity, she let it loose as if releasing a bowstring.
"Whoosh!"
The fiery projectile cut through the air, leaving behind a faint trail of smoke as it sped toward its unsuspecting prey.
"Owooooh!"
The fire arrow struck a monkey directly in the chest, even though it tried desperately to dodge.
Kierra's aim was no joke.
[ EXP +10 ]
The monkey dropped dead instantly.
"Ooh ooh! Aah aah!" The remaining monkeys erupted in rage, their furious cries echoing through the treetops.
They looked toward the abominable human who had done this, and charged down to attack.
Their target? It was naturally Kierra.
But Kierra merely smirked. Without hesitation, she fired off a few more Piercing Fire Arrows before running off, drawing the monkeys away from the nest.
Ten… no, twelve monkeys took off after her, their movements nearly too fast for Victor to track.
Yet, Kierra managed to stay ahead, matching their speed with impressive agility.
Victor gave her a mental thumbs-up. This girl is surely something else.
With the coast finally clear, Victor wasted no time. He grabbed onto the nearest branch and began climbing, using the thick limbs to pull himself toward the nest.
"Tak, tak, tak!"
Victor felt light taps against his arm.
"Are you kidding me?" he muttered, exasperated.
As soon as he peeked into the nest, a baby monkey was smacking him with a tiny stick.
Its attacks were harmless—more adorable than threatening. The little cub had fluffy golden fur that gleamed in the sunlight, making it look even less intimidating.
Victor sighed. 'They're just babies.'
The two cubs stared up at him with wide, fearful eyes as he stabilized his footing in the nest. But Victor ignored them for now.
His eyes swept the area until they landed on a small straw hut nestled in the center of the nest.
'A storage hut? That must be where they keep their valuables.'
Excitement flickered in his chest as he approached the crude straw door. Without hesitation, he pulled it open, anticipation burning in his veins.
But to his horror, inside the straw hut, a big monkey lay soundlessly asleep.
[ Grabby Monkey - Level 8 ]
[ HP: 250 ]
[ Threat Level: Medium ]
Victor swallowed hard. "Maybe it's here to guard the treasures?" he guessed.
Whatever the reason, one thing was clear—this thing was much stronger than the others.
His grip tightened on his bronze sword.
"Please don't wake up, Ancestral Brother. Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to fight you."
Suppressing his beating heart, he took slow, careful steps inside, making sure not to make a sound.
If the monkey woke up, a fight would be inevitable. And he wasn't sure if he could win.
Then, he saw them.
"Treasure!" Victor's eyes beamed with excitement as he saw those shiny objects lying at a corner.
