Chapter 4: Chapter 4
I spent all night parking my clothes so I couldn't sleep. While I got dressed for my trip to Misting School today I began to think about the fact that I will be living with non-family members for the first time in my life. I looked in the mirror after putting on my uniform and saw that I looked like a knight and that the uniform fit me well.
When I came downstairs, I spotted my mother, who smiled as soon as she saw me.
"That's my daughter." Mother said to me before getting up and coming over to me.
"I would have rode a horse to the school but unfortunately you sold all of them."
Mother let out a sigh and paid no attention to my words.
"I would have loved to follow you there, but sadly the school clams students must come alone, you coming with me shows a sign of weakness," replied Mother. I nodded courteously, turned, and left.
People looked at me on my walk to my school; apparently, the village notices you only when you wear a Misting school uniform. While the residents of Solary stared at me, I disregarded my shyness and instead gripped my bags securely before making my way to the school.
I finally reached the school after a lengthy walk. The school's gate was enormous, which surprised me a little because every time I viewed the school from home, I thought it was just a normal gate. I stopped there staring at the gate because it was my first time and I wasn't sure if I was supposed to knock or press a button. I knocked on the gate, but the titanium gate was so strong that my knock wasn't Loud enough. As I was looking at the gate, I saw a tiny hole in the centre of it, directly on the line that divides its two sides. After noticing the shiny button on my wrist, I put my wrist against the gate to press the button into the opening, which caused the gate to make a loud sound as it opened.
It seemed like a completely different village as I stood there and peered inside. Numerous students were out and about. As the gate automatically closed, I entered gently and took a look around. I observed the pupils and concluded that there were four different types of uniforms: red, black, white, and green. Since I was wearing green armour, I believed that others wearing green were rookies or newbies. When I realized this, I approached a student in green armour who was sitting beneath a statue and reading a book. She was a black-haired girl.
"Excuse me." She looked at me and lifted her face, "Sorry, I'm new here and I'm a little confused, where do I go?"
"I'm kinda busy now, maybe ask somebody else." She didn't sound rude, but given my personality, it sounded rude to me. "Okay," I said, just before leaving her to ask someone else. The school appeared to be busy because students were wandering around.
Because I am not good at making friends, I was unsure of what to do, and the way that girl spoke to me earlier made me not want to talk to anyone else. While students were moving about the campus, I stood in the centre, unsure of which way to proceed. I was searching around when I spotted the white-haired lad who had just saved my mother and me. He was standing with one of his friends in black armour. I walked to him because he was the one person I ever felt close to. I smiled at him when I reached him, but he didn't smile back, giving the impression that he wasn't a friendly person.
"Hi, it's me the girl you saved the other day."
He rudely said, "I know who you are." I thought it was a horrible idea to approach him, but I couldn't leave since I needed to know where to go and he was the only one I knew at the school.
"I'm confused, where do I go, where do I drop my properties, who do I meet?"
"You figured out a way to get through the gates, you should figure out where to go next." He said sounding really impolite, who does he think he is? Before his friend spoke, my expression shifted and I was on the verge of leaving him.
"Relax man, she's new here." I sighed and used my other hand to hold my bags as his friend in black armour spoke. "Why don't i show you around,"
I smiled at him and said, "Sure."
After he graciously carried my bags, we made our way towards the east.
He remarked, "Don't mind Denali, he could be a little rude sometimes," but I nodded in response rather than speaking. "So you're new here?"
"Yeah."
So, how did you get to know Denali? Denali is not a gregarious person."
"He saved me from the beast."
He asked, "You mean the Misting varmint?" which left me a little perplexed.
"Is that what you people call it here?"
He cracked up when he heard it, "Of course, the moment you walk into that gate, you aren't in solary anymore, Misting school is an entirely different place."
I felt pressured to ask, "Can you tell me all about the school?" because he gave the impression that it was a lot of work.
He appeared to be enjoying our talk as he exhaled and grinned.
"Nothing much. To begin, the school is divided into four levels. The first is for beginners, who wear green armour, they do little more than learn about Solary Town and the school. The archers wear red armour, they are taught to shoot arrows. Once you master the technique, you advance to stage three which is the black armour, they teach us how to use swords and the last level, stage four, the white armour, they teach us how to slaughter the Misting Vermints, the more kills you have the higher your chances of graduating."
This made it clearer to me why they always chop off the beast's head after killing it.
"So that's why each time the beast gets killed they cut the head off."
"Yes, to provide the school with evidence that they killed it. So...we're here."
I noticed a large building in front of me when I looked forward.
"Where is this place?"
The kind boy replied, "The principal's block, his office is in there, he would tell you all you need to know."
"Thanks...hey I never got your name."
When he heard this, he grinned and said, "I'm Scott."
"Takoda." was my response.
I stood there grinning at him as he remarked, "Nice to meet you Takoda...I'll see you around." and left. I took a big breath, glanced at the building, and went inside after he had departed.
