Chapter 86: Aftermath (2)
It wasn't until a few hours later when the God of Wind and the God of Death stood before a large crowd of people. The people looked on with an abundance of worry in their hearts, confusion and terror. They had all once felt safe in the embrace of their gods, however with recent events… The gods proved to be a dangerous bunch as well.
"You know, I was here and saw just how powerful the Nature Goddess dominated the others. She even managed to walk out of the castle without any injuries…" A bystander mentioned, striking up conversation with a few people around him. "I can't think of a better demonstration to prove humans are not superior… Seriously, how did I manage to think that?" He mentioned with a shiver down his spine.
"Probably because there were five human gods, and only one elven god. On the surface it seems like humans are five times better, right?" Another person, also a former supremacist suggested. "At least, that's how I saw it. Now, I can say for certain I couldn't have been more wrong if I tried. If there is a correct interpretation of the standing… Humans are below elves…" He continued, finishing it off with a sigh.
"Will the two of you idiots shut up. The gods are about to speak." A woman grumbled smacking both of the men on their heads.
The god of wind cleared his throat in preparation to begin. "People of the theocracy. Today has been a difficult day. I will not hide the details from you… It was the God of fire, God of earth and God of life who held beliefs of human supremacy." He started. "I should have stood against their views with steadfast conviction, the same conviction I had when facing down the Dragon Lords. However, in a moment of weakness I allowed them to sway me. And it nearly cost me my life." He continued, as the crowd's emotions went wild with murmurs and chatter. "The Goddess of Water was the only one who saw through the facade and managed to remain pure of heart. So I must ask you for your forgiveness." He paused, and waited a while.
The crowd looked stunned into complete and total silence. They had never thought a day like this would happen. Where the people would have to forgive their god. Many thought; Shouldn't it be the other way around? It didn't take long for the people to acquiesce. They'd much rather forgive and then forget this awkward situation, than to continue being confused.
"Thank you, all of you." The god of wind said, with a serene smile that caused many of the women among the crowd to experience a mix of emotions. They weren't alone though, as it was a smile that had even drawn the attention of some men. "Now, to avoid this situation from happening again, I am announcing the establishment of a school. Where we will teach everything a person needs to know. It will serve as the first step in the process of restoring our strength. With 3 gods dead and lost to us forever… There is no shortage of strength that must be made up. And you will do this with your own power. The two of us will help you." He explained, keeping it vague as it was still a work in progress.
"Now, you may be wondering the best way to do this. And as of today, even though none are among us, we will call them God-kin. So all you blushing ladies out there, prove yourselves in your growth and you may have the chance to call yourself the mother of a god-kin." The god of death chuckled.
"YEAH!" The women in the crowd erupted. Not all of them, but there were clearly not a small number of them.
"Ahahaha, seems you'll be seeing more action than you bargained for." Surshana laughed for a moment until his suppression kicked in.
"Oh shut it. You and I both know this is embarrassing… Seriously, how can those two be so open about something like this?" The god of wind said, looking up to the sky. He took a deep breath and then exhaled. "Well, I guess we should start getting to work. There's plenty of work to do, and I don't want to be on the business end of Sister Nature's magic a second time…" He said, as they left to begin preparations.
Elsewhere in the world, a large Dragon was fuming. She was now beyond frustrated. "All of my plans seem to have been for nothing… Why! DAMN THEM ALL! We're supposed to be the gods! Not those tiny lumps of flesh!" She Roared into the sky from atop her mountain palace.
"Great Mother, it wasn't all fruitless. Three of their gods have been killed off. It is unlikely they have the ability to come back after that." A significantly smaller dragon pleaded. Seeing Mother this way worries me… I hope nothing bad happens.
"Hmm? I've lost my mate, dozens of my children. And have to consider the death of three of their weaker beings… To somehow be a victory?" The Great Mother Dragon said in a low, rumbling tone, as if she was about to implode with fury.
"Please, Mother, we can try… To perform that legendary spell that father did? Surely with all of us here we can activate it. With it we can summon great power to aid us in the fight against this enemy." The young dragon suggested.
The Great Mother mumbled to herself for a few moments. It was as if she was crunching the numbers in her head. There isn't enough Wild Magic between all of us to pull it off successfully. That spell managed to cut my mate's strength to less than half… And I hate to admit it, but even I'm not that strong right now. I need to be stronger than half of my mate's power… I'm just a little under half now but… That could change with a few things at play. "We will continue, however, the goal is to strengthen our magic. Do so as secretly as you can, while staying away from that one bitch. I'm the only one who can match her… A shame she killed him too, I could have had more offspring…" She explained, with a little musings towards the end.
