The Asgardian Paladin

Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2

After his finger touched the [Guardian's Gift], the intricate pattern on the Holy Deed flashed slightly, and at the same time, a paragraph of glowing text materialized next to it:

> This is a gift from the Kings to the new Paladins, containing:

[Self-Cultivation of Paladins (Volume 1)]

[Paladin Fighting Art: Unarmed (Beginner)]

[Paladin's Fighting Technique – Hammer (Beginner)]

[Appraisal Collection]

[Book of Spells: Divine Shield] x1

[Forging Blueprint: Villigan's Fist]

[Alchemy Formula: Talent Flask]

Friend, march forward bravely—under the guidance of the Holy Light!

Loki—no, Luo Wei—stared at the words for a moment, his heart pounding slightly. Just as he was about to examine it further, the [Guardian's Gift] vanished in a flash of golden light, and the Holy Deed in his hands shimmered in response.

Flipping to the third page, he found [Self-Cultivation of Paladins (Volume 1)] written in ornate Asgardian script.

The book was long—very long. It detailed the origins, purpose, and operation of the Holy Deed of Kings, alongside lengthy philosophical and moral teachings urging Paladins to uphold justice across the Nine Realms.

According to the text, the Holy Deed of Kings was a supreme artifact forged by a legendary order of Paladins known as the Kings. Their mission? To spread the power of the Holy Light throughout the cosmos. Every chosen wielder of the Holy Deed would embark on the path of the Paladin, upholding fairness and justice in the universe, with the ultimate hope of one day joining the Kings themselves.

Sounds noble… but not exactly useful right now. Luo Wei mused.

The more relevant section was about how the Holy Deed functioned.

Its fundamental system revolved around "piety"—a mysterious form of energy that could be earned through different means and used to purchase abilities, techniques, and items from the Piety Store.

The text described two primary ways to earn piety:

1. The Book of Experience – Some kind of mystical tome that Luo Wei had yet to encounter.

2. Donations – The Holy Deed referred to it as "offering tributes," but Luo Wei immediately recognized it for what it was: an in-game microtransaction system. In other words, he could sacrifice valuable items to the Piety Store in exchange for piety—the more valuable the item, the greater the return.

So it's basically a divine loot box system… Luo Wei sighed.

One interesting feature was that the Holy Deed's contents could be freely reorganized by the wielder. If Luo Wei wanted to flip to the first page, he could. If he wanted the tenth page, it would appear immediately.

Following the instructions, he turned to the next page, where [Book of Spells: Divine Shield] was recorded. Luo Wei's breath hitched.

Everyone in the World of Warcraft—or rather, in myth and legend—knew about the Divine Shield technique. It was a signature ability of Paladins, a simple yet overwhelmingly powerful spell: absolute invincibility.

> [Book of Spells: Divine Shield]

Grants the target absolute invincibility, rendering them immune to all attacks and negative effects. Duration: 3 seconds. Removes all current debuffs (curses, poisons, etc.).

Note: This spell can only be used once. After activation, the spell book disappears.

Luo Wei frowned.

The spell was indeed as powerful as its legendary counterpart—it granted absolute invincibility. No force, no weapon, no cosmic power could harm him while it was active. But…

Three seconds?

That was way too short.

Sure, three seconds of invincibility could be life-saving in a crisis. But against a truly formidable opponent—someone like Thor or even Thanos—three seconds might not be enough to change his fate.

Still… it was better than nothing.

At the very least, in the chaotic world of Asgard, having three seconds of guaranteed survival could make all the difference.

After studying the Divine Shield's description, Luo Wei turned to the next page: [Forging Blueprint: Verrigan's Fist].

His eyebrows lifted.

Verrigan's Fist. A legendary Warhammer—one of the best weapons for novice Paladins. Luo Wei still remembered how difficult it had been to acquire in his past life. He had nearly worn out his patience grinding for it.

> [Verrigan's Fist]

Type: Warhammer

Standard Item Level: 4

Main Materials: Cole's Gem, Jordan's Refined Ore

Forging Techniques: [Advanced Hammer Tempering]…

Luo Wei immediately noticed something odd. The blueprint only listed two key materials. That seemed much simpler than he remembered.

But… this wasn't a game. He wasn't sure where to find Cole's Gem or Jordan's Refined Ore in the real world.

As if answering his thoughts, the text continued:

> [Forging Completion is divided into seven ranks: Failure, Poor, Mediocre, Good, Excellent, Perfect (Standard), and Beyond. The level of completion depends on the materials used and the blacksmith's skill. Alternative materials may be substituted, with compatibility assessed by the blueprint.]

Luo Wei exhaled in relief. That meant he wasn't limited to specific materials—he just needed the right substitutes.

At least that made forging Verrigan's Fist in Asgard seem more feasible.

The next item was [Appraisal Collection]—a tool used to assess the value of items. Only appraised objects could be offered as donations to the Piety Store in exchange for piety.

Luo Wei was both eager and nervous to test it out.

What can I sell?

As a low-ranking Asgardian civilian, he didn't exactly own treasures. But then again, Asgardian "commoners" were still far wealthier than most beings in the universe.

He rummaged through his desk drawer and gathered a pile of gold coins.

In Asgard, gold wasn't particularly valuable—it was as common as copper was on Earth. Even a young Asgardian like Luo Wei had plenty of it. Of course, Asgardian gold wasn't pure—it was an alloy mixed with stronger metals, making it far more durable than Earth's soft gold.

Luo Wei stacked the gold coins on the [Appraisal Collection], and after a moment, glowing text appeared:

> [Grade 1 Item: Donation value: 17.83 piety]

He immediately flipped to the Piety Store and tossed the coins in. The text updated.

Piety: 0.00 → 17.83

Now that he had piety, Luo Wei checked the Piety Store. There was only one available item:

A mysterious blessing. Anything is possible.

A loot box, huh? Luo Wei smirked.

He made the purchase.

The moment the transaction was complete, a new page appeared in the Holy Deed. Luo Wei's eyes widened as he saw the glowing text.

"This is..."
