The Blackblood Series

Chapter 4: 4. All For Love

Kissing Veronica made my name to be popular in the college, although it angered Marcos and his best friend Kelvana. They wanted me dead. They were known as computer nerds and weren't social. However, Kelvana was more known to have tried his luck on Veronica, and she turned him down. He didn't take it easy and planned to make her life hard. So, when I kissed Veronica, the nerds fumed. Within a few days, I did what they had failed to do in more than a year.

Despite the nerds being angry at me, they could do nothing because they were afraid of me. My body was enormous enough to frighten boys like them. Moreover, I had friends—Jeff and Chris. They supported me in any situation. So, the nerds were outnumbered.

My enemies at Skyling College were slowly coming to light, and that changed me because I was supposed to be always ready for anything. I had to make sure Veronica and I were going to be lovers by making her believe I was going to be her pillar against Marcos and Kelvana. I knew having that mind was getting me closer to living the life I used to live at Rockline College, but I didn't care.

As the week neared its end, I was trying to get Veronica's attention. Since the party, she was isolating herself from me. Even when I sometimes met her, she never really looked at me in the eye. I knew she was ashamed of her behavior during the party. Her friends tried to make her understand that she did nothing wrong on that night, but she was ears closed.

Trying to get Veronica's attention frustrated me. She was playing a hard to get. I wasn't that lad who was used to beg girls for attention. Girls used to fight for my attention. I wondered what was so special about Veronica that she needed me to kneel for her. I continued trying my lucky but there was no progress at all. I realised I couldn't do it, so I gave up and tried to get myself busy every time.

One evening, when I was busy on my laptop but stuck on what to type, Chris was watching a movie with Mariana on his bed. He realized I was stuck on the keyboard for minutes and knew something was troubling me. He told Mariana to give us space. She kissed him and then went outside the room. Thereafter, Chris told me to relax my mind if I was troubled by the night of the party. He was confident that it was what stressed me. For sure, my friend was in the dark.

At that moment, I breathed heavily and told Chris everything. I wasn't worried about kissing Veronica, but I was in love with her, yet she didn't feel the same. I had no other choice besides Veronica. If not her, then that meant I couldn't have any other girlfriend at Skyling College because I had befriended Triana, and it was difficult for me to go back. Worse, she was angry at me for behaving as I did with Veronica, but not because she was jealous. She thought I was drunk, and my kiss with Veronica became more intimate for no reason in front of everyone.

I continued telling him until he learned I slept with Renata. He didn't believe it. However, he patted my shoulders and told me I was doing well. He wanted me to behave that way as we were doing in high school. I showed how worried I was if Renata was going to tell our friends and make Veronica never want to talk to me again. I don't want to mention how Triana was going to behave; it was clear I was going to be dead to her.

While we were still talking, Mariana knocked at the door and asked if we were done talking. I told her to enter. She came holding three bottles of drinks and gave me one. I thanked her and left the two lover birds having their moment in the room. I headed to the grounds for some fresh air.

Before I even reached the grounds, Jeff called me from a distance. He looked like he was in a hurry. I fast stepped, going to him. I saw other students running to the classroom blocks closer to the dean's office and wondered what was taking place. When I reached Jeff, he didn't wait for me to ask. He told me Veronica was in trouble. I froze for a moment and instantly pushed him aside me as I headed to the crowd closer to the office.

Jeff didn't even have time to actually tell me what was happening to Veronica, and I didn't even care to ask more. Mr. Cruz was standing in front of the students when he called Veronica's name and told everyone what she did. They found a bottle of alcohol in her locker. She tried to show defense that she knew nothing about it, but other students didn't make it easy for her. I screamed, defending Veronica, and told everyone that I framed her. Everyone went quiet and looked at me as they cleared a way forward for me to go to Mr. Cruz. I walked forward and looked at Mr. Cruz in the eyes. I didn't change my statement. Everyone was surprised. I knew it was the nerds who framed Veronica. They looked at me, and I stabbed them with my eyes without even squinting. I was going to deal with them later, after Mr. Cruz's punishment.

When Mr. Cruz called me into his office, I remembered the similar occurrence at Rockline College when the dean called me to expel me. My mind had many possibilities, thinking the dean was going to expel me as I remembered the penalty for drinking alcohol within the college premises was expulsion. Thinking about all that stressed me. I wondered why life always pushed me to the odd scenarios.

When Mr. Cruz asked the reasons for my actions, and I stammered to talk. He laughed at me and told me to stop covering for other students. He knew I didn't do it and told me to water the garden flowers and clean his office for a week. I became so relieved since I had thought the worst was going to happen. I don't know why he made it easy for me like that, but I'm sure it was because of my passion for writing. Anyway, I left his office feeling happy. Love made me take the blame for Veronica. It was my first time behaving like that. Maybe my behavior was going to impress her.

My punishment was easy, and my friends were helping me. Sometimes, Chris was punishing the juniors to do that punishment for me. After a week, my punishment expired. It was left for me and my friends to seek revenge on the nerds.

Before thinking much of the revenge, I tried to talk with Veronica, but she was busy preparing for her faculty trip that was on that weekend. So I chose not to disturb her.

Chris and Jeff were ready to help me fight back the nerds.

On the week that followed, Mr. Cruz urged faculties like engineering, health, and commerce to work harder for excellent results. He was under pressure from the mayor, Mr. Thiego, who told him the college was supposed to produce more engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, etc. more than it used to. Everyone got geared for excellent results.

We frequently read our books and even attended evening lectures. Mr. Cruz told me to join the football club so that I was going to be assessed for outside activities since I didn't have any extracurricular activities. His decision came after he realized no teachers were coming to help me continue with my writing classes. I feared losing my scholarship. However, Mr. Cruz promised he wouldn't be tired of helping me look for a teacher. I joined the football club on that same day.

When I was coming from the training, I saw Veronica with Renata and Leticia in the pool. I went straight to them and greeted them. Renata responded fast with a smile. After that, she and Leticia left Veronica and me. Veronica came out from the pool. I stood watching, not knowing what to say. She came and held my hand. My eyes met with her hazel, twinkling eyes. Her soft voice broke the silence when she thanked me for saving her from Marcos' and Kelvana's framing. I saw an opportunity and told her the reasons for my actions—I loved her. She didn't respond to me. Instead, she kissed me, and I kissed back.
