Chapter 6: 6. Triana Sees All
I spent the weeks that followed focused on my writing classes. Ms. Gunday encouraged me to put most of my efforts into catching up with the syllabus. I had limited time with my friends. My girlfriend was jealous because I spent all of my weekends with Ms. Gunday. She felt pressure because she knew Ms. Gunday looked much prettier, so I couldn't blame her.
As the weeks passed, winter came. Although it was cold, Skyling City was not as cold as Rockline City. However, winter was a reminder to us students that our final exams were approaching. It was high time for us to put our best. I didn't quit football training, so I had a lot of activities to do. It was Chris, who encouraged me to continue to be in the team for Skyling Bulls, and I couldn't disappoint him. Since the final examinations were approaching, I had to resolve my misunderstandings with Triana. She was my pair-mate. We were supposed to get serious and read while helping each other.
On a weekend, when there were few students in the college, I planned to visit Triana and resolve our minor conflict since she was in-campus. I wanted her to stop ignoring me and believe I wasn't drunk on the night of the party. The most important thing was for her to settle with the fact that Veronica and I were in a relationship, although I didn't know whether she had a problem with that or not because she never expressed herself.
Chris and some of my friends were gone to their homes for a weekend. So that weekend, I was alone. If the computer nerds wanted to finish me, they had the opportunity. However, you will never know—I was a bull when someone attacked me. I headed to the cafeteria to check on Triana. She was there, sitting next to a table with some lads. I got nearer to see the lads who were making her laugh to the limit of her jaws. Jealous folded my face when I thought she had found new studying partners.
When I got nearer to them, my jealousy vanished. She was with Ham and his friends. Ham was a music student and was a friendly person. Everyone liked his free-spirit company. I greeted everyone. They cheered at me, except for Triana. Her face suddenly became dull, and she locked eyes with me. I looked at her. Her short African hair—dark, neat, well cut, and shaped—made her look so ebullient even though she looked angry. I smiled as I admired her bluish eyes that reminded me of my father. I sighed, and she stood up and walked away.
When she was leaving, I called her to wait for me, but she didn't listen. Everyone sensed the tension between me and her. Ham was surprised to see Triana's behavior. He knew her to be a carefree spirit to everyone, so he asked me the problem. I explained everything to him. He understood and promised to talk with Triana on my behalf. Thereafter, he and his friends finished their food and left. I knew he was going straight to Triana. He never liked to sit on things.
As I sat alone, I purchased a heavy meal—isitshwala lamawoso—since I felt hungrier. It was an expensive meal, but I didn't care as the scent from it got into my nostrils. I ate while thinking about my situation with Triana. Thereafter, Marcos approached me with his friends. They knew I was alone, so they encircled me while threatening. Marcos wanted me to break up with Veronica. Anger simmered within me, and I was getting ready to throw punches. Before I even reacted, Ham called me from a closer distance. I stood up and walked to him, leaving the computer nerds with their friends.
Ham told me Triana set an appointment with me at the cafeteria, at five p.m. of that day. I became so happy and thanked Ham for his efforts. After that, I went straight to my room and took a nap since I was then feeling drowsy. I assumed the drowsiness was because of the too much fat, which was in my meal.
My nap became longer than I had expected. Thanks to my phone, which woke me when Ms. Gunday phoned me. She was reminding me of my lessons. At that moment, it clicked in my mind that my appointment with Triana was clashing with my writing classes. The time was already twenty minutes before five p.m. I rushed to bathe and finished without wasting time. Then, I clad my best casual clothes and headed to the cafeteria. My aim was to meet Triana for a few minutes before running to my lesson.
However, on my way to the cafeteria, I met Ms. Gunday. She was also heading to the cafeteria. When she saw me, she thought I was ready for her lesson. Her dress took my attention. It followed the curvature of her body and left her shoulders visible, making me stammer when talking to her. I was trying to explain that I intended to meet Triana at the cafeteria before the lesson. But, she didn't care to listen. Instead, she complimented my dressing and confessed to love the scent of my perfume. Her words made me walk with confidence besides her.
When we reached the cafeteria, Triana was already waiting for me. I looked at her, looking so pretty in her black dinner dress. It didn't take her time to realize my presence. When I was about to go to her, Ms. Gunday held my hand and pulled me to the teller. She asked me my favorite flavor while telling the teller that she wanted chocolates. I got confused, and she realized it. She then bought mint flavor and told me we were late for the lessons. I failed to react as she pulled me again. We left the cafeteria, leaving Triana puzzled by my behavior with Ms. Gunday, while she had thought I was there for her appointment. I was sure I angered her more.
Inside the office, Ms. Gunday told me I was weak in thesis parts. She wanted us to focus on that part before the writing competition, which was approaching. We spent a few minutes focused until she removed the chocolate. She broke a small piece of it and made me eat. She then pinched my cheek and asked how sweet the chocolate was. Before I responded, she stood up from the chair and came closer to me. She sat on the desk and told me her sweetness was incomparable to the one of the chocolate. I couldn't control myself upon seeing her thighs, and my hands didn't wait to feel the smoothness of her skin. She stopped me and headed to close the door. After that, she pulled down her dress, leaving her upper body visible. I grabbed her to me and kissed her deeply. When the moment was getting intense, my eyes met Triana's, and I almost fainted. She was watching us through a window.
