Chapter 79: Volume 1 Chapter 79: Garde Want Them All!

Silence!

No one expected Saria to say something like that in such a moment.

What did she mean by, "How about marrying me?"

Is marriage something you can just decide on casually?

In an instant, the admiration that the Rhine Lab operators felt for their director surged like a never-ending river.

Could it be that something had happened between Director Saria and Mr. Garde without them knowing?

People are naturally drawn to gossip, especially when it concerns their own director.

At that moment, the curiosity about the truth even outweighed their fear of death.

"I always thought that someone like Director Saria wouldn't be the type to fall for a man."

"Yeah, I thought she's going out with Miss Wright."

"How did Mr. Garde manage to do it? To get the director to say something like that? I'm so jealous!"

"And, if I didn't mishear, didn't the director just say 'another wife'? Does that mean Mr. Garde already has a wife?"

"..."

Not far away, Garde, being watched by the Rhine Lab operators, could no longer keep a straight face.

He looked at Saria, wanting to ask, "Saria, you were joking just now, right?"

But Garde knew if he dared to say that, Saria would surely double down on her previous words, leaving no room for retreat.

That's just the kind of person Saria was—once she made up her mind, even ten Feranmut couldn't pull her back.

She was serious, not joking at all.

To be honest, as a crocodile man, but more importantly as a man, how could he possibly reject such an outstanding woman as Saria expressing her love for him?

Besides, Garde had a slight fondness for her as well.

However, emotions are one thing, and logic is another.

He already had two fiancées!

Garde's mind became a bit frantic.

His reason for helping Saria was never about gaining her affection; he saw her more as a friend.

But as some people say, can a man and a woman ever really just be friends?

While helping her, was he secretly hoping for something more?

The phrase "wanting to act honorable while not being honorable" seemed to apply perfectly here.

"Huff, huff~"

Garde's breathing became a bit heavy.

Should he reject her?

No way!

Even if a Kobold knocked him out with a soul-draining strike, he wouldn't reject her.

The only thing that troubled Garde was: Wasn't jumping straight to marriage a bit too fast?

It seemed like Saria could sense what he was thinking, and she shook her head, "Garde, I don't need an answer right now. I just wanted to tell you how I feel."

In front of everyone, Saria's face remained calm.

"I've fallen for you because you always help me, both in reality and in dreams."

"I'm not sure what it truly means to like someone."

"But—"

Saria looked at Garde, then at Surtr on his shoulder.

"Seeing you get close to other women makes me feel terrible."

Whoa!

The Rhine Lab operators were fired up now.

They had wondered why Saria suddenly confessed, and it turned out she was jealous!

So, even someone like Director Saria could get jealous?

"Uh..."

Garde, meeting her gaze, cautiously glanced at Surtr on his shoulder.

The hand resting on her thigh suddenly felt like it had no place to go.

Surtr, on the other hand, remained unbothered, crossing her arms as if Saria's words didn't affect her at all.

Noticing Saria's gaze, Surtr lifted her chin in annoyance, "What are you staring at me for? This is between you and him."

The wind started to pick up, becoming more raucous.

Except for the operators of Rhine Lab, all the Lizardmen had fled.

Just a few minutes ago, the marketplace had been bustling with life, but now it was deserted, with only the wind sweeping up sand into the sky.

Although Saria said he didn't have to answer immediately, Garde had already known his answer from the start.

"Saria, I think we haven't known each other long enough."

Was this a rejection?

Hearing Garde's words, Saria's expression didn't change, but her fingers couldn't help gripping the hem of her clothes tightly, turning pale.

However, the next second, Garde's voice reached her ears again.

"So, can we start by being friends? Really close friends?"

All in all, Garde and Saria hadn't known each other for more than two months.

For one of those months, they had barely interacted.

Could anyone fully understand someone else in just a month?

Whether it was Saria or Garde, the other hadn't yet occupied a significant enough place in their hearts.

Or maybe that statement applied only to Garde.

Saria was amazing, with a great body and personality—definitely Garde's type.

But that kind of liking wasn't enough yet.

Garde believed that liking someone shouldn't just be a fleeting attraction but should be something long-lasting, something that could sustain them for countless years.

If he compared Saria to Gavial and Laurentina, who did he like more? Who did he like best?

Garde didn't want to be like those emperors who, even while having a harem, would go months or even years without seeing their women, only remembering to summon one occasionally.

Because Garde was greedy.

He didn't just want their bodies; he wanted their hearts too.

He wanted it all!

"Okay."

Saria wasn't greedy because she knew this was the best outcome.

Both she and Garde had the freedom to make more choices.

But choices? Heh.

Where else was she going to find another man as strong, handsome, and skilled as Garde, who could also speak five or six different languages?

"Let's go. We need to get out of here."

Having received the answer she wanted, Saria left without hesitation.

She knew her momentary impulsiveness had already delayed them enough.

She always said that emotional outbursts were meaningless and wouldn't solve problems.

Losing judgment because of emotions was just foolishness.

And yet, now, she had become the fool she once criticized.

On the market road, Garde watched as Saria's figure disappeared into the distance. After a while, he turned around.

"Surtr, can I ask you a favor?"

"Hmph, finally need me?"

Surtr, unaffected by the earlier conversation, coldly replied, "Fine, since I'm your slave!"

So, in your mind, what exactly is a slave?

While mentally rolling his eyes, Garde took Surtr to the sand cars left behind by the Rhine Lab operatives and loaded a bunch of oxygen tanks onto one of the vehicles.

Garde gazed into the distance.

"But before that, we have a small problem to deal with first."
