The Clockmaker's Daughter

Chapter 3: Just A Child

The world around Lila shimmered and swirled, a pattern of light and loud sound that made her head spin. The whispers of time, once chaotic and frantic, now swirled around her in a strange, melodic harmony. For a moment, she felt a sense of peace, until Dinah's voice cut through the silence.

"Welcome to the Weave," Dinah said, her voice echoing softly in the vast expanse. "Try not to get lost. It's easy to do."

"This is… incredible," Lila whispered, her voice filled with awe. She reached out to touch a nearby thread, her fingers brushing against its glowing surface. The thread pulsed softly, as if responding to her touch. "Lila, how do you even know where to go?"

Lila frowned, listening to the whispers. "The threads, they're like paths. Each one leads to a different moment or timeline. But we need to find the one that's been broken."

As they walked, Dinah couldn't help but ask questions. "So, this whispers when do you start hearing them".

"For a long time" Lila replied. I can't really remember it just sort of happened.

You have a gift Lila, and how else are we going to figure out what that Dr. Alaric guy was after?"

Lila smiled despite herself. Dinah's optimism was infectious, and it gave her the courage to keep going. But as they ventured deeper into the Weave, they began to notice something strange. Some of the threads were frayed, their light dimming. And in the distance, they saw a figure, a tall, gaunt man in a long black coat.

"Dr. Alaric," Lila whispered, her heart pounding. "What is he doing here?"

The man turned, his eyes locking onto theirs. For a moment, he seemed almost surprised. Then, he smiled, a cold, calculating smile that sent shivers down their spines.

"Ah, the clockmaker's daughter," he said, his voice echoing through the Weave. "And her… companion. How delightful. I was wondering when you'd show up."

Dinah stepped forward, her hands clenched into fists. "What did you do to time, you creep?"

Dr. Alaric chuckled. "I didn't do anything. I simply… rearranged it. Time is a tool, my dear, and I intend to use it to its fullest potential."

Lila's eyes narrowed. "You're going to fix this. Now."

The man's smile widened. "Or what? You'll stop me? You're just a child playing with forces you don't understand."

Before Lila could respond, Dinah lunged forward, grabbing a loose thread of time and pulling it sharply. The ground beneath Dr. Alaric shifted, and he stumbled, his expression turning to one of shock.

"Dinah!" Lila cried. "What are you doing?"

"Buying us time!" Dinah shouted back, grabbing Lila's hand. "Now run!"

The two girls sprinted through the Weave, the threads of time swirling around them. Behind them, Dr. Alaric's laughter echoed, but for now, they were safe.

Don't worry I know where is safe for us let's hurry before he breaks free.....

"Amazing!! How did you do that ?" Lila Asked

I told you I'm the weave keeper it my job to stop people like him from disrupting the flow of time!!!!!!!

### **The Plan**###

Dinah grabbed Lila's hand and pulled her toward a shining thread of time. "We need to get out of here. Somewhere safe. Somewhere… normal."

Before Lila could ask what she meant, Dinah tugged on the thread, and the world around them dissolved in a blur of light and sound. When the chaos settled, they found themselves standing in the middle of a bustling marketplace. The air was filled with the scent of fresh bread and spices, and the sounds of laughter and chatter surrounded them. People moved about, haggling with vendors, children ran through the streets, and the sun shone brightly overhead.

Lila blinked, disoriented. "Where are we?"

"Somewhere time is still intact," Dinah said, leading her through the crowd. "A pocket of reality that Dr. Alaric hasn't touched yet. We can talk here without worrying about him."

They found a small café tucked away in a corner of the marketplace. The tables were shaded by colorful umbrellas, and the smell of coffee and pastries filled the air. Dinah ordered two drinks, something sweet and frothy that Lila had never seen before, and they sat down at a table.

"Alright," Dinah said, leaning forward. "Here's what we know. Dr. Alaric is after the Eternal Clock, a powerful artifact that controls the flow of time. If he gets his hands on it, he'll be able to rewrite history however he wants. But the Clock is hidden in the Forgotten Timeline, a place where time has stopped completely."

Lila frowned, stirring her drink absently. "The Forgotten Timeline? What's that?"

"It's a timeline that's been abandoned," Dinah explained. "A place where no one lives, where time itself has frozen. It's dangerous, but it's also the only place where the Clock is safe."

Lila looked around at the bustling marketplace, the people laughing and living their lives. It was hard to imagine a place where time had stopped completely. "How do we get there?"

Dinah hesitated. "That's the issue. The Forgotten Timeline is hidden deep within the Weave, and the only way to reach it is by following a specific thread, one that's almost impossible to find unless you know what you're looking for."

Lila's heart sank. "So we're stuck?"

"Not exactly," Dinah said, a sly smile creeping onto her face. "There's someone who can help us. Someone who knows the Weave even better than I do."

"Who?" Lila asked.

Dinah's grin widened. "His name is Kai. He's a wanderer, someone who's been traveling the Weave for years. If anyone can help us find the Forgotten Timeline, it's him."

Lila raised an eyebrow. "And where do we find this Kai?"

"He's not exactly easy to track down. But I know someone who might be able to help us with that."

Lila groaned. "This is getting complicated."

leaning back in her chair.

Dinah laughed. "Welcome to the life of a Weave Keeper. But don't worry, Lila. We'll figure this out. Together."

As they sat there, surrounded by the sounds and smells of the marketplace, Lila felt a flicker of hope. For the first time since this whole mess began, she felt like they might actually have a chance and finally go home to Eldermere.
