Chapter 4: I'm Your Guy
They left the marketplace after a while, Lila and Dinah found themselves wandering through a quaint, cobblestone street lined with charming shops and cafés. The air was filled with the scent of freshly baked bread and blooming flowers, and the sound of a street musician's violin drifted through the air. It was a stark contrast to the chaos of the Weave, and for a moment, Lila allowed herself to relax.
"I could get used to this," Dinah said, stretching her arms as they walked. "No time-breaking villains, no weird threads of light, just good food and good vibes."
Lila smiled, though her mind was still racing. "We can't stay here forever, Dinah. Dr. Alaric is still out there, and we need to find this person you've been talking about."
Dinah groaned. "Can't we at least eat something first? I'm starving. And I think better on a full stomach."
Lila couldn't argue with that. They hadn't eaten since before the chaos began, and her stomach was starting to growl in protest. "Alright," she said. "But we make it quick."
Dinah grinned and pointed to a small café tucked between a bookstore and a flower shop."Perfect," Dinah said, dragging Lila inside.
They found a table near the back, and a friendly waitress brought them menus. Dinah immediately ordered a slice of chocolate cake and a caramel latte, while Lila opted for a simple tea and a croissant.
"So," Dinah said, leaning back in her chair. "How are you holding up?"
Lila sighed, stirring her tea. "I don't know. This is all so… overwhelming. I mean, a week ago, my biggest worry was finishing my homework. Now I'm traveling through time, fighting villains, and trying to save the universe. It's crazy!."
Dinah nodded sympathetically. "Yeah, I get that. But hey, at least you're not doing it alone. You've got me, remember?"
Lila smiled. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Dinah. Seriously."
As they ate, Dinah leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "whats wrong lila. You can tell me it's written all over your face."
Lila hesitated, then sighed. "I guess… I'm afraid of failing. Of not being able to fix this. What if I'm not strong enough or smart enough to stop Dr. Alaric? What if I let everyone down?"
Dinah reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "You're not going to fail, Lila. You're the strongest person I know. And you're not doing this alone, remember? We're in this together."
As they finished their food, the door to the café opened, and a boy walked in. He was about their age, with tousled dark hair and piercing green eyes. He wore a patchwork coat , and in his hand, He looks around the room searching for someone and finally his gaze landing on Lila and Dinah.
"That's him," the person I told you could help us , Dinah whispered, her eyes widening. "That's Kai."
Lila felt her heart skip a beat. There was something about him, something magnetic and mysterious. He walked over to their table, his movements confident and sure.
"Dinah," he said, his voice low and smooth. "It's been a while."
Dinah grinned. "Kai. I was wondering when you'd show up."
Kai's gaze shifted to Lila, and for a moment, she felt like he could see right through her. "And you must be Lila. The clockmaker's daughter."
Lila nodded, trying to ignore the flutter in her stomach. "That's me. Dinah says you can help us."
Kai smirked. "Depends on what you need help with. But if it involves the Weave, chances are I'm your guy."
Dinah rolled her eyes. "Don't let it go to your head, Kai. We need to find the Forgotten Timeline. Dr. Alaric is after the Eternal Clock, and we need to stop him."
Kai's expression darkened at the mention of Dr. Alaric. "That's not going to be easy. The Forgotten Timeline is one of the most dangerous places in the Weave. But if you're serious about this, I'll help you."
Lila felt a flicker of hope. "Thank you, Kai. We really appreciate it."
Kai nodded, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer than necessary. "Don't thank me yet. This is going to be dangerous. But if you're ready, we should get moving."
Dinah stood up, brushing crumbs off her shirt. "Let's do this."
As they left the café, Lila couldn't help but glance back at Kai. There was something about him, something she couldn't quite put her finger on. But for now, she pushed the thought aside. They had a mission to complete, and the fate of the Weave depended on them.
