The Dragon's Mandate

Chapter 18: Back from the dead

"It's all your fault! You're a curse on this family!" Mario directed all his anger at Justin. If they hadn't taken him in as a son-in-law, the Grant family wouldn't be in decline!

If it weren't for trying to protect him, Grandpa wouldn't have exhausted himself to the point of liver cancer! Faced with the anger and accusations from the Grant family, Justin Byrd felt a deep bitterness in his heart. His life was saved by Master Max, yet now he was seen as the cause of his demise!

If he could, Justin would rather trade his own life for Master Max's. "Why don't you just die, you useless fool! It's all your fault my father is gone! Get out, there's no place for you here!" Mario Grant's father, Clarence was furious, his eyes bloodshot as he watched the old man on the bed grow cold and stiff. He could almost eat Justin alive.

As a heavy slap was about to land on his brother's face, Navid Byrd, who had been standing still like a mountain, slightly raised his eyelids, a faint, mocking smile playing on his lips.

"Stop!" Logan Monroe stepped forward, pushing Clarence away and sighed inwardly. As far as he knew, the eldest grandson of the Byrd family was once a business prodigy, full of vigor and charm.

Five years of torment had made him so accustomed to insults that he didn't even flinch anymore. How could the master bear to see him like this?

"And who do you think you are, meddling in Grant family affairs?" Clarence stepped back a few paces to steady himself, his fiery gaze fixed on Logan.

"The man's not dead yet, and you're already spewing accusations. Aren't you jumping the gun?" Navid said calmly.

"What? You mean my grandpa's still alive?" Julie turned to Navid, her head spinning with confusion.

If her grandfather was truly gone, she didn't know how she would face the Grant family. Justin was her husband, and though her cousin's words were harsh, they were true.

"Is it true, brother?" Justin asked excitedly, a glimmer of hope replacing his earlier despair.

"Nonsense! Do you think my judgment can be wrong? Speaking such nonsense, are you even daring to deceive the dead?" Archer Moon scoffed loudly, his voice filled with reprimand.

Having practiced medicine for forty years, he had never encountered a colleague bold enough to boast in his presence.

"Dr. Archer, please calm down..." Meng Yutang was startled and quickly tried to soothe him.

Archer Moon was not someone the Ge family could afford to offend. His connections with the prominent families in Tongnan were formidable.

With their grandfather just passed away, making new enemies would spell disaster for the Ge family.

"What makes you say the person isn't dead? The breath has ceased, the body is cold. Do you possess some divine power to raise the dead?" Director Leon from the hospital's liver department scolded from inside the ward.

He admired Archer Moon's medical skills to the point of reverence and couldn't stand anyone questioning his idol's expertise.

"Ignorant fool! I won't stoop to your level! Deliver the consultation fee to the Meng family tomorrow!"

Archer Moon, full of self-importance, coldly threw out a remark and turned to leave.

"Old man, you dare ask for payment when the illness isn't even cured? Your shamelessness is truly unmatched! The most notorious fraud in the land!" Logan Monroe smiled, stepping forward to block Archer's path.

"You... you dare insult me..." Archer was so furious his mustache quivered. In all his years, he had never encountered someone so audacious!

"Insult you? You're not worth it!" Logan sneered.

Until the master spoke, no one was leaving.

Archer trembled with rage, pointing at Logan, too angry to speak, as if he had Parkinson's.

"Who are you people? Who let you in?" Director Leon stepped forward, playing the role of Dr. Archer's die-hard fan to the hilt.

Logan didn't even bother to answer, turning instead to bow slightly to Navid Byrd. "Master, Max Grant's soul is nearly gone, hanging by a thread."

Having followed Navid for five years, Logan had learned quite a bit of medical skill, enough to assist his master.

"Bring the needles," Navid commanded, stepping forward.

Max was a good man, always grateful and protective of his brother for many years. Navid couldn't just stand by and do nothing. Even though Max had no heartbeat or breath, Navid's skills could bring the dead back to life.

Seeing Navid's confident demeanor, Archer was furious. "You fool! The dead should rest in peace! How dare you disrespect the deceased?"

Director Leon perked up at Archer's words. "This is Central City Hospital, not some back alley! The patient has passed. If you're trying to make a spectacle, you've come to the wrong place!"

"If you lay a finger on my father, I'll make sure you pay!" Clarence Grant shouted, his eyes filled with rage.

Meanwhile, Justin Byrd supported the inconsolable Julie, torn between stepping forward or holding back, he looked at Navid, gritting his teeth in silence.

With Logan Monroe standing guard, no one could get even a step closer to the hospital bed, no matter how frantic they were. Navid Byrd ignored everyone's emotions, calmly inserting a silver needle into Max's Baihui acupuncture point, driving it deep. As the needle pierced, Julie's eyes rolled back, and she fainted.

Director Leon gasped in shock. He had never seen such a method of acupuncture treatment before—it seemed reckless, even life-threatening!

"Are you out of your mind? The patient is already dead! Your actions have nothing to do with our hospital, and I won't take any responsibility!" Director Leon shouted at Navid, his voice trembling with anger.

"Annoying!" Navid muttered, frowning slightly.

Logan stepped forward and slapped Director Leon across the face. Four front teeth and blood were spat out, silencing the previously loud and aggressive director instantly. Who were these people? The air around them was filled with a menacing aura, and their gaze was terrifying.

Though Director Leon fell silent, Clarence Grant was relentless. "You're going to be cursed! The dead deserve respect, and if you dare disrespect my father's body, I won't let you off today!"

"Julie! Grandpa's body isn't even cold yet, and you're causing trouble?" Mario Grant shouted righteously, his eyes red with anger.

"Enough! If Navid doesn't make it through today, I'll give you my life!" Justin Byrd, who had been silent until now, suddenly shouted, stepping in front of his wife.

In five years of marriage, this was the first time Julie had seen her husband so determined. She slowly regained consciousness but bit her lip, choosing to stay silent.

She was betting everything on this one chance, life or death!

Navid Byrd, who had maintained a stoic expression all along, allowed the corners of his mouth to twitch slightly into a faint smile after hearing his elder brother's words. Brothers in arms, fighting side by side—his brother was still the same as ever!

A minute later, just as Archer Moon was about to storm off in frustration, he suddenly heard a soft cough. Although the sound was faint, it instantly silenced the entire room.

On the bed, the previously unconscious Max furrowed his brows and coughed a few more times. Slowly, he propped himself up with the help of the bed.

At the same moment, Navid Byrd removed the silver needle from the old man's head and handed it to Logan Monroe. He pulled a white handkerchief from his pocket and wiped his hands.

He casually scanned the room, his gaze so intense it felt like a physical weight pressing down on everyone.

"Grandpa? Grandpa, you're awake?" Julie was the first to snap out of her shock. She rushed to the bedside, clutching the old man's hand as she burst into tears.

"You're such a big girl now, crying like that without any shame," Max said, a mix of amusement and helplessness in his voice as he gently patted his granddaughter's back, soothing her quietly.

Though he had been on the brink of death moments ago. strangely, he had heard everything everyone said. He had truly taken a stroll to the gates of the afterlife today. If it weren't for Navid Byrd's timely arrival, he might have lost his life for good.

"Navid Byrd? The second son of the Byrd family, who was once the most notorious playboy?" Max asked Navid Byrd with a calm demeanor.

"What's past is past, sir," Navid replied with a light chuckle, nodding politely.

Max was not like his seemingly sharp but still inexperienced granddaughter, Julie. Ever since Navid showed up at the Zhang family's birthday banquet, Max had been keeping a close eye on the developments.

Seeing Navid's high-profile marriage and his return to the Byrd family estate, it was clear that something significant was happening. The Byrd family seemed poised for a comeback!

Based on Max's understanding of the Zhang, Wang, and Xia families, they would never tolerate Navid acting so boldly in Tongnan City. Not even for a day—they would find it unbearable.

Yet, the information Max had gathered indicated that Navid was doing quite well in the past couple of days. Not only had he reconciled with his older brother, Justin Byrd, but he had also successfully brought back his sister, Linda, who had been begging on Flower Street.

All these actions led Max to a conclusion: Navid Byrd was no longer the same person. He had transformed from a snake into a dragon, ready to soar to great heights!

The three families that once brought down the Byrd family were now powerless against Navid. That's why he could appear unharmed at the hospital today and save Max's life.

It was all fate, and Max had no regrets. Over the years, he had watched the Ge family's business decline to protect Justin Byrd.

Not repaying a debt of gratitude is like being an animal. Years ago, the elder of the Byrd family saved his life, and today Navid Byrd saved him again. Life truly is unpredictable.

In the hospital room, the most shocked people were Archer Moon and Director Leon!

They stared at Max as if they'd seen a ghost. "How is this possible? A miracle resurrection?"
