Chapter 26 - Post-apocalyptic Literature 07
Yu Huan was tired and was leaning against the car window.
‘Is it too stuffy in the car? You should come out for a walk, go for a few steps to get some exercise. It’s fine, we’ll just go back before Lu Mingzhang gets back.’
Zhang Ni opened the car door when she saw that Yu Huan was not interested in doing anything.
Yu Huan looked around, wanting to feel the wind on her face, and slowly got down, crouching at the edge of the car.
Zhang Ni sat cross-legged next to her and suddenly asked, ‘Do you smell anything?’
Yu Huan’s sense of smell had long since become very poor, and she shook her head blankly.
It seemed to be the smell of a zombie.
But there was a little zombie in front of her.
Zhang Ni stopped talking.
Under the car, a low ‘ho ho’ sound came from time to time, and with bright colours flashing in her dull eyes, it slowly crawled towards the warm source.
Although Yu Huan’s senses were dull, she could still sense the zombies.
She frowned unconsciously.
‘What’s wrong?’ Zhang Ni asked, looking at her expression, but her own expression suddenly changed, her pupils widening uncontrollably to match the outline of the zombie that was jumping at her.
Yu Huan jumped up and tried to push her away.
But Zhang Ni quickly got ready to fight, treating Yu Huan like she was one of her own. She reached for her weapon with one hand while pulling Yu Huan behind her with the other.
‘There’s a zombie!’
‘Zombie! Hurry, hurry.’
At the same time, Zhang Ni fired a bullet.
The bullet hit the zombie right between the eyebrows.
So cool.
Yu Huan looked at the scene with sparkling eyes.
‘Be more careful and see if there are any other zombies…’ Zhang Ni ordered.
But the zombie did not fall. It stood still for a while, then bit Zhang Ni’s arm.
It felt like time stood still.
Yu Huan was shocked.
She pulled Zhang Ni hard, trying to get her out of the reach of the zombie. The others finally reacted, and they all rushed in, firing several shots, finally killing the zombie.
‘Team Leader Zhang, she’s been bitten,’ someone said.
No one knew what to say.
At that time, there was no vaccine for the infection, so being bitten meant certain death.
Isn’t she the main character? Does the main character die too?
Yu Huan asked the system, not sure what to do.
Everyone was silent, but then they heard a noise and rushed out, all very nervous and alert.
Lu Mingzhang walked to the front and pushed his way through the crowd to see what was happening.
Zhang Ni was lying in a pool of blood, and the little zombie had blood on its face, holding Zhang Ni down as it tore at its prey.No one around dared to go forward.
After a short while, he looked concerned, then angry, and pinched Yu Huan’s cheek. ‘Didn’t I tell you not to bite anyone?’ he said.
His voice was harsh.
But he was also clearly impressed with Yu Huan, as his deep and dangerous eyes showed.
He was happy to see such a chaotic scene, and was also happy that the little zombie’s small white teeth finally had a use.
Suddenly, everyone was silent.
The only sound was the little zombie’s tears falling patter-patter.
She was terrified and couldn’t read Lu Mingzhang’s expression.
She always had trouble speaking and could hardly get her words out, but this time, with Lu Mingzhang holding her chin, she stuttered, ‘No, she didn’t bite.’
She was crying, and her tears fell onto Lu Mingzhang’s jaw. They were cold, but they hurt like fire.
She slowly lifted her eyelids to look at him. Her eyes were so clear and bright.
‘Boss Lu, she didn’t bite him,’
‘Yes, she really didn’t bite him,’
“We already killed the zombie and threw it aside. You’ll see,”
Everyone who had just experienced the chaos tried to persuade him.The doctor who had accompanied them hurriedly came to treat Zhang Ni’s wounds.Although they knew it was hopeless, after all, she was one of them.
No one gave up on her just because she had already been infected. What if there was still a chance to save her?
Lu Mingzhang let go of her hand.
The little zombie’s face had already gone red.
He squatted down and looked at the little zombie, who had just panicked and stumbled and sat on the ground, with tears still hanging under his eyes.
He was rarely angry, and as usual, he said angrily, ‘I really thought you had become someone.’
But Yu Huan didn’t respond.
Lu Mingzhang held out his hand to help her up, but she pushed him away.
She got up on her own, wiped her tears, and climbed back to her seat, holding onto the car door.
Lu Mingzhang pinched his fingers and said, ‘She can talk.’
‘Host, we have triggered a hidden plot,’ the system announced.
It turned out that after being infected, ‘Jiang Yuhuan’ had followed the zombies and gone with the flow, and the part of being taken away by Lu Mingzhang had not been involved.
Now, by chance, she had become involved, and the original plan had been completed.
In the script, at this point, the zombies had already been strengthened. The female lead, who had come to rescue her, was bitten and this awoke her special powers, making her the first supernatural being.
‘Tonight, Lu Mingzhang and the others will suffer a small zombie attack,’ the system told her.
That was the perfect time for her to escape.
The little zombies were really suffering, and the others couldn’t stand to see it anymore, so they took turns to cheer her up.
Mu Fei looked unimpressed, but Lu Mingzhang walked over and put a basket of snacks in the car.
‘Here, have some food,’ he said, handing her a lollipop. ‘Don’t you like sweets?’
Yu Huan turned her head away, leaving him with just the back of her head.
It’s hard to make her happy.
Lu Mingzhang stood outside the car, watching the little zombie with her back to him, not wanting to be bothered.
Zhang Ni’s condition was different from that of the people who had been bitten before. She was not directly infected and turned into a zombie, but instead developed a fever.
This gave the group a glimmer of hope.Several doctors in the group were keeping watch.
At night, most people gathered in groups of two or three, sharing the supplies they had collected that day to fill their empty stomachs, in the faint light of the moon.
Today, they found a lot of instant food in the service area, and Lu Mingzhang got a bucket of beef noodles.
They were boiling water with simple equipment.
Lu Mingzhang weighed the bucket of beef noodles in his hands and looked closer to the car window, where the little zombie was lying, drawing.
She hadn’t fallen asleep. He would feed her in a little while.
The water in the pot was already boiling and gradually starting to boil. But at that moment, the person on duty ran over in alarm and shouted, ‘Boss, it’s not good, there are dozens of zombies approaching us!’
In the past, dozens of zombies were nothing: they could be shot one after the other. But the one that bit Zhang Ni this afternoon was not something that could be dealt with so easily.
I’m afraid that these zombies are all the same.
The zombies that can be killed are not a big threat, and the real danger is yet to come.Lu Mingzhang did not feel any pity, and his disguise was even more convincing.
‘Leave a few people to protect the wounded, and the rest prepare for battle.’
The atmosphere immediately became tense.
Lu Mingzhang looked at the beef noodles one last time, afraid that they would be trampled if a fight broke out, then picked them up, opened the car door and threw them into the arms of the little zombie.
‘Hold them tight,’ he said, casually raising one corner of his lips to coax her, ‘I’ll cook you some noodles later.’
