Chapter 27 - Post-apocalyptic Literature 08
The little zombie is a bit of a waste.
He is related to Lu Mingzhang and, like him, he is seen as an outsider by other people. Just like Lu Mingzhang in the past, it doesn’t matter if you raise him casually.
Lu Mingzhang closed the car door tightly, raised his eyebrows and looked at the zombies that were slowly getting closer to them as the sun was setting, smirking slightly.
In the moonlight, there were just as many zombies as he expected. He moved easily among them, his posture was agile and neat.
The zombies made a lot of noise as they approached, and there were also the sounds of the commanders’ voices, the wind, and the leaves blowing in the wind.
There was no peace and quiet, and everything was a mess.
When the moon was full, the last zombie finally died.
‘These zombies are much stronger than the ones we’ve dealt with before,’ one of the subordinates said.
Lu Mingzhang nodded and said, ‘We’ll go back tomorrow and tell the higher-ups what’s happened.’
While some carried the zombies, others counted the supplies. When everyone had finished their assigned tasks, they all got together again and continued eating their leftover late-night snacks.
A new pot of water was about to boil.
Lu Mingzhang wiped the blade clean, put it in his pocket, and thought about the bucket of beef noodles.
The little zombie was slow, so he had to feed it when the noodles were done boiling. It was greedy and grumpy, but it still obediently opened its mouth to eat.
Lu Mingzhang was about to get out of the car, but then he stopped.
The bright moon shone down, illuminating the empty seat and creating a milky-white glow.
There was only the moonlight…
The person was gone.
Lu Mingzhang pushed the car door open, then pulled it back closed. He took a step out, then turned back, staring fixedly at the empty seat.
It was cold, and he could feel the cold.
‘Boss, what’s wrong? Why are you standing still?’Mu Fei came over and looked at him, confused. He was stunned.”Where is she? Has she left?”
he asked Lu Mingzhang curiously.
Lu Mingzhang didn’t answer him, but just stared at the seat in a very deep way.
Mu Fei opened the front door and looked in, crawled under the car and looked around, and then looked around the crowd again, but still couldn’t find her.He rubbed his head in confusion and told Lu Mingzhang, ‘She…she seems to have left.’
Yes.
She’s gone.
Or it would be more accurate to say that she ran away.
“If she ran away, then she ran away,” Lu Mingzhang said.
Lu Mingzhang held the car door, looked up, and gazed into the deep night, as if he could see how the worthless little zombie had left, ‘not someone important.’
He said this without any emotion.
Mufei, who was standing nearby, took a step back and looked a little surprised. He had never seen their boss angry before, but this time, it seemed that he was really angry.
B City has strong defensive forces and is the most prosperous base in this area.
After returning to City B, Zhang Ni was indeed unharmed and had awakened her spatial ability.
Later, others began to show the same symptoms as Zhang Ni. Some did not survive and were infected and turned into zombies, while others did and awakened their powers.
But those who could survive were rare.
The authorities formed a special force, an ability squad, to carry out secret missions.
There were six people in the squad, each with a different ability.
Zhang Ni’s ability lets her fit everything in; the wood-type ability can make plants grow faster and control how they grow; the earth-type ability can move and control soil and rocks; the water-type ability can absorb water and make water sources; and the strength-type ability can lift mountains and carry heavy objects.
As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also a mysterious spiritual ability. He is said to have extremely strong mental powers and can read other people’s thoughts and exert mental control if he wants to.
He is the one who comes up with their perfect plans, but for some reason, this secret leader has always stayed out of the spotlight and has never met with them.
It was only during this extremely dangerous mission, where decisions had to be made at any time, that this person finally joined in.
Zhang Ni looked out of the window and stared blankly, still thinking about the little zombie. What she saw before she fainted was Lu Mingzhang accusing her unfairly. When she opened her eyes, she heard that she had disappeared in a strange way.How could she not blame herself?
The two teenage twins, Shan Que and Sang Man, were playing a video game. Song Qi, the wood-elemental prodigy with slightly longer hair, was quietly reading a book. Lin Qi, the strength-elemental prodigy, was idly munching an apple.
There was a noise at the door and they listened.
Zhang Ni looked towards the door, and the twin teenagers lost interest in their game.Song Qi closed his book gently, and Lin Qi was full of curiosity.
They had often wondered who it could be, calling him a doctor or a professor, but never expecting a young man to come in.
He was wearing a plain white lab coat, with neat and clean lines, and he was handsome and straight. But his eyebrows and eyes were cold, and he looked bored.
Lin Qi almost dropped his apple, and he called out the person’s name in shock:
“Sheng Lang!”
Zhang Ni was surprised and asked, ‘You know each other?’
Sheng Lang thought for a while and still remembered this person. He remembered that at a class reunion, Lin Qi had tried to confess his love to Yu Huan.
He remembered it correctly.
After a few polite words, Lin Qi asked him in a faltering voice, ‘Yu Huan, what do you think? Are you okay?’
In the past, Sheng Lang had been possessive of Yu Huan, and had felt disgusted by anyone who mentioned her name.
But now it was different.
He hadn’t seen her for a very long time, and hearing her name suddenly made him feel very happy—she had existed.
He could get her back.
Although this mission was extremely difficult, they completed it without incident thanks to Sheng Lang’s presence.
They explored the source of the danger in the area and collected lots of supplies.
On the way back, Zhang Ni asked Lin Qi quietly, ‘What’s the relationship between that Yu Huan you mentioned and Sheng Lang?’
Lin Qi squatted down and sighed, ‘I think he likes her.’
“We went to the same school. At the time, Sheng Lang took care of Yu Huan a lot. Probably to avoid trouble, he explained that they were brother and sister.Later, I heard that they had been engaged since they were young…’
Lin Qi talked about lots of things that had happened at school, like how Sheng Lang got top grades and was at the top of the honour roll, how pretty Yu Huan was, how kind she was, how many friends she had, and how they looked so perfect when they walked together.
As she talked, Zhang Ni imagined a warm, lively girl who was very likeable.
It was a bit familiar, she thought, and before the little zombie was infected, she must have been just like this.
The mission was solved, and the journey back would take two or three days.
They stopped for a short break halfway, and the twin brothers and Song Qilin Qi all collapsed in the car, too tired to get up.Sheng Lang, who was in the passenger seat, rested his forehead on his hands and closed his eyes to stop thinking so much.
Zhang Ni, who was driving, jumped out of the car to look into the distance and relax her eyes.
Just then, the grass at half height suddenly moved.
