Chapter 20: Chapter 20 First Day

"My name is Michael Corner," said Michael with a slight hesitance, but he quickly steeled his nerves and tried to sound confident.

"Terry Boot," introduced a boy with light brown hair, fair skin, and brown eyes, his voice steady and assured. He carried himself with the quiet confidence of someone who didn't doubt himself much.

The last boy in the room smiled when everyone turned to him. "My name is Anthony Goldstein," he said, his voice light and friendly.

Daniel immediately liked him. 'He seems like a nice guy,' he thought. Anthony had blond hair, light skin, and bright blue eyes that almost seemed to sparkle with intelligence.

After introducing themselves, they chatted for a while, but the exhaustion of the long train ride and the excitement of the sorting caught up with them. One by one, they gave in to sleep.

Daniel was the first to wake up. The room was still dark, but his body refused to rest any longer. He glanced around and saw that everyone else was still fast asleep.

'I guess my training routine changed my biological clock.'

Carefully, he slipped out of bed, moving as quietly as possible so he wouldn't wake anyone. He made his way to the bathroom. A quick, hot shower helped shake off the last remnants of sleepiness. After brushing his teeth and finishing the rest of his morning routine, he stepped back into the dormitory to find that everyone was now up.

"You wake up early, huh?" Terry remarked, noticing Daniel's damp hair.

"Yeah, I guess it's just my routine. I used to train in the mornings," Daniel replied as he sat on the edge of his bed.

"Train?" Michael looked at him curiously. "Like... physical training?"

"Yeah. I started training in magic too after learning about it," Daniel answered, now watching their reactions. "Is that weird?"

Anthony was the first to respond. "Not weird, just unusual. You don't see many people training at our age. Well, besides Quidditch, but that's more like playing games than actual training," he said with a reassuring smile.

"Oh, okay then. Wanna join me? We have the whole day free today," Daniel offered.

The three of them exchanged skeptical looks. "It's not that I don't want to," Anthony said slowly, "but maybe later?" The others nodded in agreement, they seemed far more eager to study than work out.

"Alright, your loss," Daniel said with a shrug before heading out of the dormitory.

When he entered the common room, it was mostly empty. A few early risers were scattered around, some reading, others simply sitting in silence, still waking up.

'I guess most people are just getting up now,' Daniel thought as he scanned the room.

His gaze landed on the prefect from last night, the one who had guided them to the common room. She was seated in an armchair, nose deep in a book, but when he approached, she glanced up.

"Excuse me, can you tell me what time it is?"

She gave him a brief, appraising look before smiling. "Oh, you're up early." With a flick of her wand, she muttered, "Tempus." A set of glowing numbers appeared in midair: 6:28 A.M.

'I need to learn that spell,' he thought, intrigued.

"Breakfast starts at 7:30 A.M. and ends at 9:00 A.M.," she informed him. "You'll get your schedule then, so don't be late if you're planning to wander." Her expression turned slightly amused, as if she had seen plenty of first-years get lost in the vastness of the castle.

"Okay," Daniel replied, making a mental note.

As he turned to leave, she added, "If you get lost, ask the paintings. They're usually happy to help, some of them, anyway."

He nodded, appreciating the advice, and left the common room. The stone staircases echoed his footsteps as he descended the tower, the torches flickering with light. The castle was eerily quiet this early, and he felt a thrill of excitement as he started exploring.

After wandering for about 45 minutes, Daniel still hadn't found any important places, like the library.

'Okay, this place is bigger than I thought. I should look for the Great Hall instead,' he decided. His stomach was starting to protest, and food was now a higher priority than books.

Thankfully, finding it was easier than expected, and soon enough, he found himself stepping into the massive, enchanted space of the Great Hall. The bewitched ceiling reflected the early morning sky, a soft, golden hue spreading across the clouds. The long tables were already bustling with students eating breakfast.

He quickly spotted the Ravenclaw table and made his way over, taking a seat beside his housemates.

"So, did you train?" Michael asked as Daniel grabbed a piece of toast.

"No, I was just looking around, trying to find the library and the exit to the yard," Daniel replied, reaching for some eggs.

Michael's eyes lit up. "Did you find it?"

"No," Daniel said flatly.

Michael visibly deflated, his shoulders slumping in disappointment. His expression was so comical that Daniel had to stifle a laugh.

"But we can look for it together after breakfast," he offered.

That perked everyone up, and they all agreed enthusiastically. Just as they were about to change the subject, a familiar voice interrupted them.

"Here are your schedules," Penelope Clearwater said as she approached, handing each of them a neatly printed copy.

Daniel took his and glanced over it, curious about the days ahead at school.
