The Genjutsu Devil of Konoha

Chapter 17: Test result (17)

POV Change

So while Seijuro was somewhere in the Kurama clan house, studying some stuff about elemental jutsu, he had finished his workout of the academy fighting style. He'd gotten a decent amount of practice with it.

The Kurama clan didn't have any fighting style per se, but he was sure they had some history or something. He was having some fun reading books about the history of Konoha.

About how it was founded like 29+ years ago. He didn't pay much attention to it, really.

Hm. So warring period, man with big wood and man with pink eye made village. No one wanted to contend with big D energy and made village.

Other nations not trying to get the wood would make their own village. Man with big wood would treat the Tailed Beasts as pets. Hm...

Speaking of Tailed Beasts, he never got a full in-depth detail of what they are. Most books just called them a mass of chakra. Some called them deities or some sort of natural calamity.

Hm, one of them might help me in my research—and to fix my low chakra output.

Granted, he wasn't going to become the Jinchuriki to one. More like... he wanted a piece of every single one of their chakra. Fuse it into one, and use that to boost his own chakra.

That seemed like a solid plan.

Hm. Well, who cared.

Meanwhile, inside the school...

A teacher was stuck grading the test.

Most instructors had gone home, but not him. Nooo. He had to be the one stuck grading these damn written exams. His back was killing him, his eyes were dry, and the red ink on his brush was running out for the third time today.

"Ugh... gods above... I didn't sign up for this. I wanted to teach Taijutsu to brats and pretend to care about their feelings, not play paper ninja with little smartasses." His grumbles echoed in the empty room as he slumped over another paper.

He briefly looked at the clock. Tick-tock. Still hours from freedom... No, he wouldn't be free until he was done.

BS, I'm a Chunin—I deserve better than this.

"Maybe I'll go visit the Red Lantern District after this. I heard they got a new girl in from the Land of Tea... Mmm. Good tea." He grinned like a perv in a hot spring.

Back to reality—he lazily flipped to the next paper.

Name: Seijuro Kurama

"...Kurama, huh?" He scratched his cheek with the back of the brush. "Isn't that the Genjutsu freak clan?"

He began marking. One check. Two checks. Three checks. Check. Check. Checkcheckcheckcheck—

He blinked.

"...Huh?"

He leaned in, squinting. All 45 standard questions—correct.

He flipped the page.

Bonus questions. They were marked with a little star, clearly labeled as optional for those who needed extra points to pass.

Five extra questions.

All correct.

His brush stopped midair.

"...Wait a damn minute."

He went back. Looked over each answer again. Cross-referenced it with the answer key.

Perfect score.

"Wait wait wait... this little snot—he answered all fifty? And got every single one... right?"

There was a brief silence.

He thought maybe the kid cheated... Heh. Would it matter? If he cheated and the Chunin instructor was there—who was also a Sensor and chosen specifically to help against cheating—then he'd deserve that grade.

He stood up, knocking over a half-empty bottle of ink.

"I gotta report this."

Hokage's Office – 30 Minutes Later

Hiruzen Sarutobi, the God of Shinobi, the Third Hokage... was blasted.

That kush he had burning in his pipe right now? Divine. Even Tobirama would be humming if he got a whiff of this shit. That premium kush—imported from Kusagakure—the Hidden Village of the Grass truly had that premium shit.

Maybe I should protect them in the next war... or raid their supplies of that divine kush.

He leaned back in his chair, pipe perched between his fingers, exhaling like a man who had just watched his grandchildren not die in a mission.

"Mm... that's the good leaf..."

There was a knock. Sarutobi snapped back to reality, barely.

Though he made sure to lock in, using chakra in order to suppress the high he was feeling right now.

"Come in."

The instructor shuffled in, carrying a stack of papers like they were scrolls from the Sage of Six Paths.

"Hokage-sama, sorry to interrupt, but this year's entrance results just finished processing."

Hiruzen sat up, taking the papers. "Let's see what our future looks like."

He flipped through them one by one.

Mikoto Uchiha – Note: High agility, prodigious Sharingan potential. Tactical thinker.

"Hm. Promising. The Uchiha always are."

Hiashi and Hizashi Hyuga – Note: Both scored well. Hiashi has refined control, Hizashi shows initiative and risk-taking. Strong Byakugan foundation.

Hm. Seems like the Hyuga clan is doing good. A shame they have such a huge stick up their ass. Welp, I'm Hokage. I won't press too much into it. They do what they want.

Takeshi Uchiha – Note: Skilled. Hotheaded. Suspended for performing a Katon jutsu mid-exam.

Hiruzen sighed. "...And another one with a superiority complex."

Then he got to the next paper.

Seijuro Kurama

He paused.

"...The Kurama clan?"

He began reading.

Top scores across the board.

Perfect on the written exam.

Excelled in all practicals.

High chakra control.

High intelligence.

Kekkei Genkai confirmed dormant but stable.

"Interesting..." Hiruzen mused, tapping the paper.

He puffed from his pipe. That kush was hitting just right.

Hm. I might finish this batch soon.

He flipped another page.

Nawaki Senju – Note: Excellent stamina and chakra capacity. Still maturing. Struggles with written material.

Good. I shall keep an eye on that Seijuro guy.

His eyes landed on a civilian who had made the list.

Minato Namikaze

Oh neat.
