The Immortal Born from Ashes

Chapter 22: Chapter 22 – First step into Cultivation

The mysterious figure stared down at Yun Wao after saying just one thing:

"You must train for it."

He didn't move. Just stared. Quiet. Heavy.

> "Why is this weird old man staring at me like that...? I can barely stand in front of him—and he's not even releasing his pressure. It's like... he's actively holding back his power, just so he doesn't crush me."

The man finally spoke again, his voice calm, but ancient.

"You... mortal. You're the weakest among the four insects I trained. I can't feel cultivation from you. You don't have any spiritual power... how is that possible?"

He looked genuinely confused.

"The others... they had at least some energy I could sense. But you... you're just empty."

> Empty? What's he saying? Wait... the other mortals he trained—are they actually cultivators? Just how powerful is this guy… if he doesn't even know what a normal mortal is?

"Well," the man continued, eyes narrowing.

"I think... you're special."

> What does that even mean...?

But let's not get distracted. Let's return to the story.

---

"I... I'm a mortal. So of... c-course... I... w-won't h-have powers..."

Yun Wao struggled to speak. His voice trembled—not from fear, but from the raw weight of the man's existence.

The old man smirked.

"Interesting. So many things I still don't understand... I was born an Immortal."

"WHAT!?"

"Let's not talk about that, child."

His tone changed, calm but firm.

"I trained the other four mortals for hundreds of years. I made sure they became strong enough to return to where they came from."

Yun Wao's voice came out low.

"Then... how can I go back to my body?"

The man looked at him with an odd pity.

"What you are now... it's only a fragment of your soul. The rest was destroyed by your inner demon."

He looked away, thinking.

"I didn't know what an inner demon was... until one of the others described it. That was all I needed. Since then, I can instantly tell when someone was killed by one."

"It'll take thousands of years for your soul to recover. Your body may rot before then—but don't worry. All you need... is a body."

Yun Wao clenched his fists.

"But I can't wait thousands of years... I need revenge. My family. My entire dynasty... was slaughtered."

The man went silent for a moment.

"Kid... I once thought like that too. And now look at me... I'm nothing more than a guardian of the Mortal Realms."

"The... Mortal Realms?"

"You're not qualified to know that yet."

Yun Wao tried to ask more—but his voice failed him. The man stepped closer.

"I was, and still am, a good person. So I'll help you escape this prison... but only on one condition."

"What is it?"

The man's eyes sharpened.

"Call me Master."

Yun Wao froze. For a second, a memory flashed—a moment from his childhood.

His grandfather's words: "Call me your Master from now on..."

But Yun Wao had refused. He never cultivated.

He looked up now, and bowed deeply.

"Yes, Master."

The immortal nodded.

"Good. Then let me help you cross the barriers between worlds."

"But before that, you must learn something important."

 The Rules of Nature:

1. The strong always rule.

2. Never mess with someone stronger than you.

3. Always respect the strong.

> "Damn... bro really out here teaching cowardice..."

"Or maybe... something happened in his past?"

The immortal continued.

"If you want to fly through the barriers of worlds, you need to handle at least 1% of my pressure. For that, you need cultivation."

He suddenly paused. His eyes narrowed, sharp as blades.

"Wait... how?! That's my technique. I passed it on to all four of my mortal students. How is it already activated in you?"

"It's... in my sect, I think."

"Which sect?"

"Crimson Moon Sect, Master."

The immortal's expression softened. He let out a short laugh.

"Hah... your senior brother really worked hard. So my legacy wouldn't die."

"Senior... brother?"

"Forget it. That technique—its real purpose was never to strengthen the body. It was made to awaken your spirit."

He stepped back.

"So. What are you waiting for? Start cultivating. What level are you?"

Yun Wao scratched his head.

"I think... I'm below the worst level. That's probably why you can't sense anything from me."

"Below the worst?" the immortal muttered.

"Those four idiots never told me there's a level where someone has no cultivation at all... unbelievable."

"But," he said with a grin,

"you can still cultivate. Don't worry—the energy here is perfect."

Yun Wao looked up sheepishly.

"Uhh... Master? How do I start cultivating?"

The immortal's face dropped.

"You're the worst student I've ever had. I swear—how am I supposed to know? I was born an immortal."

He sighed, but then his eyes lit up.

"Wait. One of my students once told me that in your world, people aren't born sensing qi... they have to learn to feel it first."

"So... sit. Meditate. Try to sense the qi in the air."

Yun Wao nodded seriously, then sat down in a dramatic pose—like an immortal deep in enlightenment.

> Just to flex.

He tried to meditate—but even his broken soul was filled with too many thoughts. Regret. Guilt. Pain.

But above them all...

Revenge.

That word burned in his mind like fire.

Slowly... the air shifted.

His eyes shot open.

"I... I can see it. The qi!"

He reached out—his fingers passed through it. He couldn't grab it.

He looked at his master—but the man's face said:

> If you ask me one more question, I'm torturing you for eternity.

So Yun Wao just... inhaled.

Tried breathing in the qi like air.

And suddenly—

Boom.

The energy responded.

He started cultivating.

Yun Wao's excitement burst out of him. He forgot everything—his pain, his confusion—and just focused.

One hour later—

Qi Refining Peak.

No pauses. No bottlenecks. No hesitation.

(Not because Yun Wao was some genius prodigy... but because the energy in this place was insanely concentrated)

The immortal raised an eyebrow.

"Finally. I can feel cultivation from you."
