The Immortal Born from Ashes

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: The silent watcher

"I can feel cultivation from you," the master said, eyes narrowing. "But it's like... you don't have cultivation. It's so faint, I can barely sense it."

He folded his arms, voice calm but sharp.

"The other four mortals I trained had enough energy that I could feel it clearly. That means you... you're the luckiest of them. Being this weak and still brought here — that's pure luck."

He paused. "What's your name?"

"Yun Wao."

"Hmm..."

The master turned away. "Now cultivate as much as you can. But remember, don't touch anything strange. If you do, no one can save you — not even me."

"I could've taught you techniques to cultivate faster, but I don't think you can even handle the weakest one. So, you'll cultivate independently. When you're strong enough, maybe you'll comprehend my techniques."

"Don't worry about time. That's just something mortals use to measure when they'll die."

"I'm going back to my job. When I come back, I want to see that you're strong enough to withstand at least 0.1% of my pressure. If you can't... then you don't deserve a second chance."

"Start cultivating. You might surpass me one day."

And with that, he vanished.

Yun Wao floated alone in that strange, empty space. No one around. No light. No sound.

And then—just as the master left—the inner demon returned.

> "You should give up completely.

You couldn't save your family.

You ignored cultivation when they begged you to learn.

Now, when they're gone, now you want to get stronger? For what?

Will revenge bring them back?

Will it give you peace?

No. So end it. Destroy your soul and vanish already."

"No… I won't… I won't…" Yun Wao whispered. "Enough… if I can't take revenge, then I don't deserve to live — but I will. I will take their revenge. I'll never stop growing...

No one can stop me."

He sat in a meditative position.

Not for flex.

Not for pride.

But because this time… it meant something.

The inner demon faded.

Far away—nearly 1000 km out—the master stood silently.

"I knew it would return," he murmured. "That's why I left quickly. I wanted to see if he'd break again."

> Dang... this old master is crazy powerful and way too smart.

Bro heard one thing about inner demons and started acting like he wrote the whole manual.

SCENE SHIFT

Han Wu was running through the thick forest. His body hurt badly, blood was dripping from his wounds. Every breath was hard to take.

He felt pain in his side but didn't stop. The sun was setting, and the trees made weird shadows all around him. His vision was blurry, but he kept pushing forward.

If he stopped now, if whatever was after him caught him… it would be over for him.

A low growl sounded close behind. Han Wu almost fell but kept going.

He gritted his teeth. His body screamed for him to rest, but his heart told him to run.
