The Lord Demon King is Unfathomable!

Chapter 235: The Distant Battle_4

Although these human mortars cannot compare to the Magic Crystal Cannon, each shot landing still kicks up swirling dust, tearing the ground apart and igniting towering flames on the Demon Clan's positions.

Then thick smoke billows up, forming clusters of gray clouds on the mountain.

Watching the distant battle lines, Balrog's pupils slightly contracted.

The range of the Imperial artillery seems to have extended!

As his gaze roamed along the coastline, he quickly detected a hint from the spitting fire tongues.

The human mages are casting spells on the artillery!

They have somehow strengthened the artillery barrels and stuffed them with enough charge that it's nearly bursting, allowing the projectiles to fly farther than before!

They even reached the mountain tops north of Seldo Port!

Even though the landing points of these shells are wildly inaccurate!

A sense of foreboding grew in Balrog's heart, yet he didn't think this small change could decisively turn the tide for the Imperial Army so overwhelmingly disadvantaged.

The descending rain of shells grew denser, although it hardly injured hellish soldiers, it cast an impenetrable wall of smoke across the battlefield.

Logically, in this coastal terrain, the smoke shouldn't persist for long.

But on this rare occasion, today happened to be a windless, clear day, leaving the sea of smoke on the ground as the sole clouds.

At this moment, the infantry corps of the Aus Empire swiftly assembled, advancing towards the fortress by the mountains with the Fire Gun Corps under the cover of the Magic Chanting Group.

Those gunners lined up orderly, black barrels aimed forward, firing simultaneously at the commander's signal, bullets storming towards the Demon frontlines like a hail of wind.

And attached to those bullets was the Holy Light Magic of the priests!

The skeleton soldiers at the front lines fell in scores.

But this sort of casualty was negligible to the Hell Army, as those undead were merely cannon fodder sent to the front to exhaust the Imperial Army's ammunition.

They died as they expected.

In front of the black Demon Fortress, the little demons of the Red Flame Legion watched this scene, each mocking with a cold grin.

"Have the humans gone mad?"

"With just these firearms and artillery, they actually think they can break through us?"

"Ha ha ha, far too weak!"

"Once they're done fooling around, it's time for us to act! Hahaha!"

Led by the little demon king, the wing-flapping little demons laughed aloud, readying themselves to unleash Spirit Magic.

And not far from them, the Abyssal War Beasts had long been prepared to join this certain slaughter!

However, right now, those waiting to mock the humans were unaware that their respected General Balrog, along with the Dragon family behind this Horror Demon, actually did not want them to win…

Victory was easy for them to grasp, yet remained unreachable.

Just on the edge of an unnoticed battlefield, the Griffin Knights of the Aus Empire were flapping their massive eagle wings, flying at low altitude under the cover of smoke, swiftly traveling to the back of the fortress along the ridge.

There lay a blind spot!

Once frontline forces engaged, this unexpected force could seize the gap when hell's artillery fired downhill, launching a surprise attack against the artillery troops!

Watching the rapidly advancing Griffin Knights, standing among the Imperial Army, Hammerdon couldn't help but squeeze a sweat for these brave lads.

This would be a high-stakes gamble!

Once hell's artillery discovered them, a distance of a kilometer would become an insurmountable gap, consigning them to be buried under the concentrated fire of the twenty Magic Crystal Cannons!

But conversely—

This was also their only chance!

If the Griffin Knights attacked hell's army flank by conventional tactics, they stood no chance.

"Prepare for battle!"

Watching the approaching Imperial forces, Balrog, clad in heavy armor, bellowed, drawing out the Battle Axe engraved with Netherworld Language while unleashing and enlarging the flames suppressed within the Flame Crystal.

He grinned ferociously, poised for slaughter.

Hammerdon felt the same.

Staring at the Flame Demon sneering at him, he held his long sword, steady breath, letting the golden-clear aura swirl around his sword's edge.

A bloody struggle was imminent!

Then suddenly, an abnormal change occurred.

Perhaps the Divine really heard his prayers from last night, as the low-flying Griffin Knights miraculously entered the blind spot of the hell army's vision and, seizing the moment when artillery was firing, rushed into the artillery positions at an astonishing speed!

A dismayed face reflected on the shining armor of Griffin Knights, followed by rolling heads and spurting blood!

The claw-wielding Griffins lunged like villains into a lamb pen, slaughtering the goblin artillery operators within a few breaths, leaving only scattered survivors screaming and fleeing.

"No—!"

Balrog roared, turning back to the blazing artillery positions, his eyes wide with rage, wishing he could turn and fight back.

But it was already too late.

War is brutal like this, opportunities slip away in fleeting moments.

The surprise attack by the Griffin Knights had swept through the entire artillery position, destroying all twenty Magic Crystal Cannons with the explosives they carried!

Meanwhile, the human Fire Gun Corps had already formed neat ranks and stepped into shooting range.

Without the support of artillery, the advancing little demon troops were like meat on a chopping board, scattering like paper dolls under the hail of gunfire from human soldiers.

And the clawing Abyssal Beasts were utterly incapable of resisting the repeated bombing by assembled human mages, collapsing one after another in despair and rage!

The Magic Crystal Cannons, which could intimidate the united spell casting of human mages, were no longer existent.

The balance of victory shifted at an astonishing speed towards the Imperial side!

And at this moment, aware that the defeat was irreversible, General Sebes decisively ordered the retreat horn to be sounded, declaring the battle's conclusion.

"Boo—"

Listening to the low and resonant sound of the horn, Balrog clenched his teeth, glaring sharply at the distant Human Knight, yet ultimately turned around, retreating in disarray.

This was his only choice.

Regardless of possessing Gold Level power, even a Demigod couldn't face thousands alone… not to mention the opposing knight might be no less than him.

"Bless Saint Sis…"

Watching the hell army retreating like a tide, Hammerdon stood speechless, overwhelmed by the scene.

Not until his army's flag was planted on the low wall of the mountain fortress did he feel everything happening was like a dream.

It went too smoothly.

Besides the phrase 'divinely assisted,' he couldn't find a more appropriate description!

He stood dazedly until his Deputy Officer, full-faced in jubilance, rushed to his side, shaking his shoulders, waking him from his stupor.

"We won! Haha, we won! Seldo Port hasn't fallen! We've conquered Doomsday! Conquered the hell army! Bless Saint Sis… this is definitely a miracle! Today's victory will surely enter the annals of history!"

Hammerdon didn't know if it would enter the annals, but seeing the soldiers awaiting his announcement of victory, he understood what he needed to do now.

It was almost instinctual as a general.

He raised his sword high, shouting with all his strength, venting those thrilling emotions.

"For Saint Sis! For the Emperor!"

Cheers spread across the mountains, burning like a raging fire.

"Long live Saint Sis!"

"Long live the Empire!"

Amidst the mountain-spanning cheers, the triumphant Griffin Knights landed on the ground, each proud Griffin puffing its chest, the blood-stained feathers like glorious medals.

Under their claws lay a mountain of corpses and skeletons, with both dead demons and unfortunate humans.

Although, these exhilarated lads didn't know that bringing them victory was not Saint Sis, but the Demons far deep in hell...

For a distant war unseen by smoke and fire, the Dragon family needed them to win.
