Chapter 252: Judgment Will Finally Come
Just as Kamu was captured, the news that the Judger from the Truth Department was heading to the Dragon Manor spread throughout the Demon City like it had wings, at an incredible speed.
In the Demon City West District, near the slums, at the Black Scale Tavern, the flickering candlelight cast shadows of demons with horns onto the moldy ceiling.
A little over a month ago, the demons and undead here had raised their glasses in a toast to Lord Demon King who spoke for justice.
And today, the little demon delivering newspapers brought them new gossip to accompany their drinks.
It was the latest issue of the Magic City Daily.
[Judger from the Truth Department stationed at the Dragon family manor!]
The fewer the words, the bigger the matter.
The succinct headline was a solid endorsement of the rumors that had preceded it, setting in stone the Dragon family's downfall.
In the tavern, laughter and clinking glasses filled the air, as lively as a celebration.
A Hell Dwarf with a face full of flesh slammed the table, his booze-soaked nose as red as a Magic Crystal Lamp, spitting as he shouted loudly.
"...The Truth Department is serious this time! Did you hear? The temple bell rang three times, and the Judger, dressed in red robes, set off escorted by Death Knights! Worried that the Dragon family might resist and threaten the Demon City, they surrounded the manor with three layers inside and out. Guess what at the end? Haha, that cowardly Family Head surrendered!"
The Horror Demon sitting beside him laughed heartily, sounding like a cow, before gulping down some cheap beer and joyfully shouted.
"They deserve it! The Dragon family indeed went too far! Those nobles have all forgotten their honor; Horror Demons don't act like Horror Demons, Enchanting Demons don't act like Enchanting Demons, they've completely forgotten their original promises, indulging in the greed of human nobles! They should've been punished long ago!"
"Exactly! I've disliked them for a while!" A goblin sitting nearby burped, shook his groggy head, and muttered, "Speaking of... what was the reason again?"
For the goblin, the Hell Dwarves' and demons' mugs were too big; he could stick his head inside.
That's why, after just one drink, he was already not fully conscious.
The festive atmosphere in the tavern didn't diminish much, but this table's topic paused for a couple seconds.
A Hell Dwarf frowned, thought for two seconds, and said.
"Seems like... it's the plague in Black Wind Castle, heard they bribed the Sawtooth Chamber of Commerce to poison Black Wind Castle's water supply."
"Damn, those beasts!"
The scarred Horror Demon war veteran cursed angrily, while the Dream Demon next to him hesitated and said.
"So the defeat at Seldo Port was indeed... what I mean is, was it on purpose? I saw in the Abyss Times that Miss Isabelle wrote that General Sebes was once under the command of an Elder from the Dragon family. Do you think he might have truly cooperated with the Dragon family in doing such a thing... that he sided with the false god of the surface humans?"
The demons sitting around exchanged glances, stunned for a moment.
The matter had passed a long time ago, and they weren't clear on many details.
"It's not impossible. The Magic Crystal Cannon put too much pressure on the Aus Empire; they have a reason to try stopping the War Department's new weapon technology from spreading."
"...Sounds a bit far-fetched, the leaders aren't blind, I feel it's more like making use of the situation."
"Indeed, Lord Demon God is watching them; you're saying they'd blame it on a low-level human from the temple, I might believe, but that they'd sacrifice eight thousand citizens of Demon God for selfish gains... hehe, I think they're just tired of living!"
"Hell isn't the hypocritical Aus Empire, humans don't believe in Saint Sis, but we demons truly believe in the Demon God! Although I also think those sitting in the Parliament Building are a bunch of idiots, suggesting they'd openly plot on the frontline, betraying Lord Demon God is nonsense."
"The Judger from the Truth Department isn't joking, if General Sebes dared to do such a thing, there'd be someone knocking at his tent door the same day... 'Hey, sir, please come with us.' It wouldn't even take until afternoon before those Truth Department tactics would have him confess all the conspiracies. That guy has reached the rank of General, he's not that foolish to risk his future to accompany the Dragon family's madness!"
"Sometimes I really don't understand what on earth they're after... They have everything, money, power, Extraordinary Power, even fame, what do you think those guys still want?"
"Who the hell knows, let the Truth Department examine them!" a Hell Dwarf muttered, raising a foamy glass, "Cheers to Lord Demon God! Cheers to justice!"
"Cheers!!!"
The clinking of cups ended the unpleasant topic, and the tavern's atmosphere heated up once again.
Despite the volatile storm outside the creaking broken door, at least what they believed in still existed, the great Lord Bayele still watched over them, and there was still a Demon King speaking for them.
They didn't ask for much.
This was already enough!
Not only the "scraps" from the slums clinked their glasses, but quite a few High-level Demons living in the manor also excitedly popped champagne.
No one expected that this matter would ferment into such a conclusion.
