The Lord’s companion

Chapter 4: 4

After realising that he himself was in no danger and that it was just Ye Ran, Ruo Chen quickly stood back up with a cough.

"Have you eaten the breakfast yet?" Ruo Chen asked with his head turned.

Why am I so easily scared? Ruo Chen mentally berated himself while Ye Ran was questioning himself if he really was that scary that Ruo Chen didn't want to face him anymore.

So he unknowingly had a frown on his face.

"I'm waiting for you."

Now that surprised Ruo Chen, if he remembered correctly, Ye Ran at this age was quite avoidant due to him basically shut at home 24/7 by his parents. They'd only let him out of the house sometimes, and that was only where they could see him. So it would be more according to the story if he just quickly ate alone and left, but he didn't.

Has my impact in this world already spread? Ruo Chen couldn't help but think as he sat down at the study table. When he thought they could begin eating in peace, he realised that he was the only one sitting down.

Right. He only had one chair.

Xiao Pang, who seems to just magically spawn wherever he wants, was barking happily at Ruo Chen's misery. Ye Ran only looked at Ruo Chen dilemma with an indifferent look before taking a piece of toast and egg and sat down on the floor.

"I'm used to eating on the floor, its okay."

Ye Ran assured Ruo Chen and took a bit out of the toast and egg. His face seemed to light up for a moment before returning back to his expressionless one.

"If that's what you want." Ruo Chen was filled with unease as he replied. The indifferent look on Ye Ran's face was due to him having to suppress his emotions and feelings from his family. Whenever he was bullied or insulted by his family, they were always looking to get a rise out of him which would only intensify their actions.

So remaining indifferent and cool was the only way to cut his sufferings short.

This eventually became a habit that would never leave him.

Ye Ran was only treated like this due to the family's twisted jealousy of his powers. They hated the fact that it was Ye Ran who was blessed and at the same time they were scared of him, scared that he might fight back. So they locked him up, making him unable to interact with others his age in an attempt to suppress his growth. This was followed with harsh words so Ye Ran eventually believed that he was a monster and that he should have perished as a child.

Ruo Chen chided himself for making Ye Ran suffer again. He'd only wrote that part to make the protagonist seem cooler and to make the revenge more satisfying. But now upon seeing the impact it had on a kid, Ruo Chen felt heavy with guilt.

Xiao Pang was also starting to get hungry as it watched those two happily munch down on their breakfast, it barked to Ruo Chen. The bark meaning, 'Give me some food you lacking owner!'.

Ruo Chen only shot it a glare before picking up an egg but before he could even hand it over to Xiao Pang, the hungry dog already leapt up in the air to snatch it out of his hands.

This little fatty!

Ruo Chen rolled his eyes before think of what topics to talk about, in his previous he could never go a meal without having some kind of entertainment or video to watch while eating. This silence made his feel strangely awkward.

He decided to talk about the first big milestone in Ye Ran's life, being accepted into the school of flames. This was where Ye Ran would get a considerable boost in power as he quickly perfects his control over his powers under the guidance of the world renowned teacher, Feng Hao Yu. This was also the place where he would construct one of his most powerful moves that terrorised the world, Eternal flower rain.

The place that also destroyed the last bit of his innocence as he endured the countless insults and hurt each day.

This Ye Ran hasn't yet experienced all of that which made talking about this topic much easier for Ruo Chen to stomach. He still hesitated each time he opened his mouth, until Ye Ran noticed his strange behaviour that he finally decided to ask.

"Have you thought of which school you're going to go to?" Ruo Chen choked out as he played with the bread crumbs, not daring to look at Ye Ran in the eyes.

"The school of flames."

"That's a tough goal, even among the different good schools, it comes out on top." Ruo Chen whistled, but this was all act. How could the protagonist not make it to the top school? Even if he was obstructed in 100 ways, no doubt he would still be there on the first day of school.

Ruo Chen nodded as he finished his last bite before standing up.

"That's why I've got to start training now. Thank you for the meal." Ye Ran thanked and did a full 90 degree bow.

He couldn't believe his eyes. The Lord of the world, the who feared none beneath the heavens, just bowed to him. Ruo Chen struggled to keep his cool as he continuously reminded himself that he hasn't reached that part in the story yet and that Ye Ran's power now wasn't even close to 1% of his true power.

"It's no problem, how about we train together? I'm looking to enter one of the top schools as well."

"My parents don't allow me to use my powers in front of others, they say I'm a monster and that I will hurt them." Ye Ran replied while staring at Ruo Chen.

This sentence was supposed to be said with a pained tone, but why did it sound so recited? Ruo Chen just decided to ignore it and decided to reassure Ye Ran that he was sturdy and not a weakling, almost going as far as to say that he would rip his core out for Ye Ran to see.

This was the most vulnerable thing one could say, as the core was basically a person's beating heart, it was near the heart and you would be useless without one.

Ye Ran saw how determined Ruo Chen was just to do some training with him and felt a mix of emotions. When he was at home, he was always left out and nobody wanted to be near him, they all feared his power. But now, someone was begging to be with him, the mix of anger, sadness and joy made him dizzy but it ultimately made him smile.

"Okay, since you're so eager."

***

Up until now, Ruo Chen has never really seen what he looked like, the wooden shed didn't have a mirror and there were no water bodies near by.

So only after a day of being in this world, did he finally look into the mirror of the toilet in the main house. He told Ye Ran that he was going to wash up first before training, so here he was in the toilet.

He also sneaked Ye Ran into the house for him to get changed.

What he saw in the mirror was quite an impressive face, not that it could compare to the protagonist but it was quite striking. It was also quite similar to how he looked on earth.

Short black hair that covered his forehead with light green eyes. His eyebrows were straight and thick and his eyelashes were quite long for a boy. He looked basically the same as he did when he was a child, except for the green eyes.

There was a childish charm to his look and he couldn't help but pat his back as a good job for being lucky to have a good looking face. Ruo Chen couldn't help but feel a bit weird as to why this body's face looked so much like the one he had on earth so he just labeled it as 'magic'. One of his life's motto was, thinking too much will only bring you pain.

When he wrote this book, it was a mix between the ancient times and the modern era, so it wasn't a must for long hair and instead of robes, shirt and shorts were worn.

Another pat on the back for Ruo Chen as he hated wearing long sleeves.

And so, he changed into a new shirt and shorts before quickly heading out to meet Ye Ran at the fields.
