Chapter 1060: You'll Know If You Take a Look
Wu Heng looked at Retili, "Aren't you the guide? What's the plan?"
Retili tidied her wind-blown hair, "The consortium has prepared resting places for members passing through. If you don't mind, sir, I can take you to the consortium's dormitory."
Wu Heng glanced at the sky and then said, "The association has dormitories too. Let's meet at the entrance tomorrow morning and continue our journey."
"Alright, sir." Retili smiled and nodded.
They walked side by side into the central district, with the association's and consortium's buildings facing each other across the street, still the tallest and most magnificent structures in the city.
The two confirmed their plans for the next day and parted ways at the intersection, each heading into their respective faction's building.
At this time, the sky was getting dark, and cleaning was beginning in the association's hall. Wu Heng walked to the front desk, where a dwarf woman respectfully said, "Sir, the association isn't handling tasks now."
Despite the unique skin tone of dwarves that blurred age, her voice sounded young.
Wu Heng took out the inspector emblem, "I need to use the members' dormitory."
The dwarf girl took the emblem, glanced at it, and her expression immediately became serious, "Greetings, Inspector. Do you need me to contact the local steward for you?"
"No need, just prepare the dormitory and dinner. I'm staying one night and leaving tomorrow." Wu Heng said bluntly.
"Alright, I'll handle it right away." The dwarf girl swiftly processed the request.
Then she handed her position at the front desk to another person, tiptoed to take down the wall lamp, and personally led him to the third floor, stopping in front of a room.
"Sir, this is the finest guest room in the association." The dwarf opened the door, "Dinner will be brought to you later."
The room was somewhat dim, but it was spacious inside. Outside the floor-to-ceiling window, the city was gradually sinking into darkness.
"Alright, thank you." Wu Heng walked inside.
The dwarf girl bowed and left, and Wu Heng closed the door.
Wu Heng took out the Illuminating Stone, replacing the candlelight. Four ghosts also appeared beside him.
"Let's go! Let's hit the streets!" Xiao Xiao excitedly called out.
Glenda gestured outside the window with her eyes, "There are no streetlights here at night. Probably won't be long before the streets are empty, so there's nothing to explore."
"Yeah, there are no streetlights here." Xiao Xiao remembered.
On Gold and Silver Island, you could go out to play, with streetlights and an entertainment city, lively even at night.
But there's nothing here, the room's lighting was still Wu Heng's own Illuminating Stone.
Wu Heng looked at his bed, then turned and said, "You could go out invisibly for a look, just remember the way back, don't get lost."
"Sure thing!" Xiao Xiao exclaimed immediately.
"Then we'll go out and see if there's anything interesting to share with you when we get back." Bella said with a smile.
Glenda added, "We're all going out. Is that okay with you?"
Wu Heng glared at her playfully, "You're underestimating a hero too much!"
"Alright then, we're heading out first, see you later." Glenda smiled, beckoning the other ghosts.
The four ghosts went straight through the wall, leaving Wu Heng alone to make the bed and arrange his belongings.
Wu Heng quickly organized, then unfolded the map, reviewing the planned route.
Heading to Deep Furnace Castle, even at motorcycle speed, it would likely take more than four days.
It seems like on this journey, he'll need to use tickets to record the location of each city for future use.
Knock, knock, knock~!
As he was pondering, there was a knock at the door.
Wu Heng opened the door, and a middle-aged man in a brown robe stood outside, looking him over before bowing, "Local steward Bender, greetings, Inspector."
In such a city, stewards are generally level 12, while inspector appointments are mostly around level 18.
"Please come in." Wu Heng stepped aside.
Behind Bender were two association servants carrying trays, delivering the steaming dinner into the room.
Once the servants left, Bender lowered his voice and said, "I heard you're just passing through, sir?"
"Yes, leaving tomorrow morning." Wu Heng's tone was calm.
Bender's expression subtly relaxed for a moment, but soon regrettably added, "So hurriedly?"
"It's a tight schedule."
"Indeed, business is important," Bender agreed, then added, "I've been stationed in this Dwarf City State for over ten years. If you need assistance, don't hesitate to ask, and the local association will fully cooperate."
Wu Heng nodded, "If necessary, I'll seek aid here."
Clearly, he thought Wu Heng was on a mission, his words included both politeness and inquiry.
But Wu Heng was just passing through, and it's likely he won't return here again.
Bender saw that Wu Heng wasn't inclined to chat, so he sensibly got up, "Given your departure tomorrow, I won't host a banquet to disturb you. When you return, be sure to stay a few days and allow me to fulfill my host duties."
"Alright." Wu Heng replied succinctly.
Bender bowed again and turned to leave, and the sound of footsteps gradually faded.
Wu Heng closed the door, returned to the table, and began his meal.
As night deepened, the view outside the window was pitch black.
Two of the ghosts flew back, Xiao Xiao Piao in the lead pouting, "So boring! The streets are pitch dark, not a soul in sight!"
Bella chuckled lightly, "But it's not entirely dull. We saw two groups of dwarves fighting, one guy even got his beard pulled out."
"Yeah, yeah!" Xiao Xiao immediately got excited, gesturing animatedly, "They cursed so badly, even threw bottles at each other!"
Wu Heng raised an eyebrow, "Is a fight the most exciting thing in such a big city?"
"The streets are empty, Gold and Silver Island is better!" Xiao Xiao reflected.
