Chapter 29: Return My Old Ginseng Quickly
"Oh? This sword doesn't seem half bad." Since the black-robed Ghost King didn't have any legacy, Tang Rao started toying with the longsword in his hands.
I didn't expect this longsword to cut through iron as if it were mud, and when it went sliding through the rusty old steel by the side, it sliced it right open with a swishing sound.
"With such fine material, turning it into a Spiritual Artifact would be awesome, definitely badass," Tang Rao revealed a hint of satisfaction on his face.
Speaking of which, today's haul isn't too shabby.
Whenever I find the time to work on this longsword, even though I'm not a Spiritual Artifact Master, inscribing some simple arrays and imbuing it with spirit is still something I can do with ease.
Who said I, Tang Rao, am not a walking encyclopedia? Got to dabble in everything, right?
"Buzz..." Inside the waistband, the phone vibrated once again.
It's Jiang Langyue.
Tang Rao thought for a moment and pressed the answer button.
He had learnt his lesson this time and didn't speak right away. Who knew if it was Jiang Langyue or that bastard trying to screw him over.
"Mr. Ghost King, looks like you've succeeded. Bring over Tang Rao, I just can't wait to see him!" A man's excited voice came through the phone.
It's that guy who's trying to screw me over.
"Give me the address," Tang Rao said through gritted teeth, trying to make his voice sound more sinister, more like the Ghost King.
There was silence on the other end for half a second.
"Tang Rao, did you think I couldn't recognize your voice just because you strained it? Hahaha, you underestimate me!" The man's laughter came through the phone.
Tang Rao: "..."
"Tang Rao, you're really too amusing, so much fun. Tell me about it, how did you kill the Ghost King? Tsk tsk tsk, that guy was pretty tough."
To be honest, Tang Rao didn't want to waste words with this guy, who seemed like a mental case with a twisted mind.
What's your beef with me? Tell me if you have any grievances. If I can satisfy it, I'll do my best; if I can't, just suck it up.
Why are you so determined to kill me?
In a society governed by law, aren't you afraid of doing time for this?
"What Ghost King? I don't know what you're talking about. Where's my old ginseng? Hand it over," Tang Rao went straight to the point, not about to admit to killing the Ghost King. No way.
What if he's recording this call? If he reports me to the police, I'd be in trouble.
"Old ginseng? You're asking me for it? Don't you know that I didn't lay a finger on Jiang Langyue and Jiang Langhuan? I just cloned Jiang Langyue's phone number!" The young man's voice sounded somewhat surprised.
"I know, but you said you took a hundred two-hundred-year-old ginsengs from me, and if so, you should return them," Tang Rao said earnestly.
This is called turning the tables, kiddo. You'd better learn properly from Lord Tang here.
"Is that so?"
"What's not? Now tell me, are you going to give them back or not?" Tang Rao said impatiently. An inexperienced little brat, not being privy to such schemes of trickery.
"What if I won't give them back?"
"If you won't, then you won't. At most, when I find you, I'll just punch you a hundred more times, one fist for one ginseng. I'm a person who is pretty fair," Tang Rao said with a jerk of his chin.
"Okay then, I'll give them to you. I'll arrange it now, they'll be delivered to your house before dinner!" The young man said happily and hung up the phone.
Tang Rao's worldview was slightly shaken. He agreed?
Holy crap, what kind of freak is this?
"Let's go home then," Tang Rao didn't think too much about it, grabbed the longsword, and strutted off.
As for the corpse of the Ghost King, that little kid should come to collect it.
"Uncle Cha, I've found that this Tang Rao is way more interesting than those guys in Tiandu," the young man said as he reclined in the back of the S-series Mercedes, his mouth moving as he likely chewed on the tapioca pearls in his bubble tea.
As for Uncle Cha, his complexion wasn't looking too good at the moment. How could Tang Rao have killed the Ghost King? How could this be possible?
The Ghost King was a master at opening the Qi Mansion; his strength was still quite formidable.
Could it be that Tang Rao had a formidable master by his side? Impossible; Tang Rao came out alone, Bai Xiaotong did not follow.
"Young Master, there is something odd about this Tang Rao. I think we should be more cautious," Uncle Cha said, frowning.
"Uncle Cha, give the orders to send a hundred 200-year-old ginsengs to Tang Rao's home," the young man said, turning his head.
What? To really send them? What a joke!
A hundred 200-year-old ginsengs were no small sum.
"Just consider it some compensation for Tang Rao, such a pitiful guy. He probably doesn't even know what he has done, thinking about it is quite amusing," the young man said with a warm and gentle smile, his mouth agape.
Compensation? Uncle Cha was momentarily stunned.
Then, his whole body trembled.
That's right, the Ghost King was killed by Tang Rao.
Who is the Ghost King? Originally named Lu Dingjia, a member of the Tiandu Lu Family, one of the few in the Lu Family who have opened their Qi Mansion for cultivation.
Although Lu Dingjia was often away from home, he was ultimately a member of the Lu Family.
In fact, he was one of the candidates to be the next Family Head of the Lu Family.
Now that Lu Dingjia was killed by Tang Rao, would the Lu Family let this go? Of course not.
As long as they expose this news to the Lu Family, given the domineering nature of the Lu Family, they are likely to fight to the end with Tang Rao.
Uncle Cha glanced at the rearview mirror, with a flash of panic in his eyes.
The Young Master's thoughts and strategies were truly beyond what ordinary people could reach.
...
"Damn it, why do I always feel uneasy..." On the highway, Tang Rao furrowed his brows.
Thinking it over, something didn't feel quite right. Who exactly is the person plotting against him?
Is it an enemy from the Tangrenwang Mall? Or a suitor of Jiang Langhuan? Or perhaps, it's someone else.
Tang Rao had always been confident in his own wit, but he had to admit that his opponent was not bad either.
Entirely not in the league of fools like Cui Sifang.
"Ghost King... a cultivator who's opened his Qi Mansion. Damn, it can't be like that? That would be too devious," Tang Rao muttered suddenly.
According to Bai Xiaotong, cultivators who have opened their Qi Mansion are extremely important to the major families.
What if this Ghost King belonged to one of the major families? Now that he's been killed by me, once the news gets out, there will definitely be trouble.
Of course, Tang Rao couldn't be sure at the moment; this was just his speculation.
"This young chap, I don't even know who he is. If it's really that devious, I would actually be quite interested," Tang Rao grunted.
Returning to Ziyuan Villa, Tang Rao rushed straight into the living room.
"Mrs. Chen!" Tang Rao shouted loudly.
"Young Master, what's the matter?" Mrs. Chen came out from the kitchen, with a scarf tied around her waist, apparently cooking.
"That, where are the old ginsengs that Jiang Langyue sent?" Tang Rao asked straight away.
"They are all in the kitchen... With so much old ginseng, I have to keep an eye on them," Mrs. Chen gestured Tang Rao over.
Tang Rao grinned and whooshed into the kitchen.
Without saying another word, he dumped all the old ginseng into the pressure cooker to cook.
Although he had killed that self-proclaimed Ghost King today, Tang Rao still felt the danger and needed to enhance his strength as soon as possible.
Just in case a cultivator at the Foundation Establishment Stage showed up again, then he would really be out of options.
