Chapter 2: CHAPTER 2
Strength Division in Naruto
In the Naruto series, ninja are officially ranked into three main levels: Genin, Chunin, and Jōnin. However, strength can vary greatly within these ranks, so an unofficial classification can be used to better distinguish power levels. Below is a refined breakdown that aligns with the details shown in the manga.
1. Genin (Lower Ninja)
Description: Newly graduated ninjas who have just entered the battlefield.
Chakra & Abilities: Minimal chakra reserves. Primarily relies on Taijutsu (hand-to-hand combat) and basic Ninjutsu.
Techniques: Mainly use the Three Basic Jutsu (Clone Jutsu, Transformation Jutsu, and Substitution Jutsu) along with some D-rank and C-rank techniques.
2. Chunin (Middle Ninja)
Description: Ninjas who pass the Chunin Exams and are considered competent fighters.
Chakra & Abilities: Increased chakra reserves. Starts learning elemental Ninjutsu and tactical combat.
Techniques: Can effectively use C-rank and sometimes B-rank Jutsu. More proficient in teamwork and strategy.
3. Elite Chunin
Description: More powerful than regular Chunin, sometimes equivalent to weak Jōnin in specific skills.
Chakra & Abilities: Has developed elemental affinities and can use nature transformation. Chakra reserves are noticeably higher than an average Chunin.
Techniques: Uses a mix of B-rank and C-rank Jutsu. Some can attempt A-rank Jutsu with difficulty.
4. Special Jōnin (Tokubetsu Jōnin)
Description: Ninjas who have Jōnin-level proficiency in a specific field (e.g., Genjutsu, medical Ninjutsu, tracking) but lack overall balance.
Chakra & Abilities: Stronger than Elite Chunin but not fully at Jōnin level. Specializes in one or two combat areas.
Techniques: Can reliably use A-rank Jutsu but mostly relies on B-rank techniques.
5. Jōnin (Upper Ninja)
Description: The standard high-level ninja, capable of leading missions and fighting at an advanced level.
Chakra & Abilities: Significantly larger chakra reserves. Has mastered at least one elemental nature transformation. High speed, Taijutsu, and strategic thinking.
Techniques: Regularly uses A-rank Jutsu, some capable of S-rank techniques. Can defeat multiple Chunin effortlessly.
Elite Jōnin (Shangnin)
Has significantly more chakra than an average Jōnin.
Specializes in A-rank ninjutsu and can effectively use B-rank combination techniques.
Often possesses advanced combat experience, leadership skills, and expertise in specific fields such as medical ninjutsu, sensory abilities, or sealing techniques.
Quasi-Kage (Quasi-Shadow Level)
A transition stage between Elite Jōnin and full-fledged Kage-level.
Has surpassed standard Jōnin but has not yet fully adapted to Kage-level power.
Some highly skilled Elite Jōnin can exert Kage-level strength temporarily, earning them the "Quasi-Kage" title.
Kage Level (Shadow Level)
A ninja of strategic importance, capable of leading a village.
Possesses a significantly higher chakra pool, generally unrestricted by chakra limitations in standard battles.
Primarily relies on A-rank and S-rank ninjutsu, with access to forbidden techniques and unique abilities.
Super Kage Level (Super Shadow Level)
Has truly broken the normal limits of chakra and power.
Can drastically alter the terrain with the sheer scale of their abilities.
Capable of wiping out large forces single-handedly.
Six Paths Level (Sixth Dao Level)
Transcends normal shinobi limits, entering god-tier combat capabilities.
Chakra amount becomes irrelevant—power is determined by mastery over Six Paths abilities, Truth-Seeking Orbs, and other divine techniques.
Capable of fighting on a planetary scale, affecting reality itself.
Chakra Quantification System
(Using the fictional "card" unit to estimate chakra amounts)
Academy Students: 10 cards or less
Genin: 10–50 cards
Chūnin: 51–500 cards
Elite Chūnin: 500–2,000 cards
Tokubetsu Jōnin: 2,000+ cards (varies, no strict upper limit)
Jōnin: 5,000–20,000 cards
Elite Jōnin: 20,000–100,000 cards
Kage Level: 200,000–1,000,000 cards
Super Kage Level: 1,000,000+ cards (no defined limit)
Six Paths Level: Chakra amount is no longer relevant; power is based on divine energy and realm mastery.
