Chapter 30: Chapter 29: Assault
Bang—
The door flew open as Gato kicked it in.
Suddenly, a massive blade slashed through the air, stopping just a centimeter from his face.
Gato froze, his breath hitching in terror. He swallowed hard.
"Z-Zabuza… I-I mean, Lord Zabuza…!"
All of his arrogance from before had completely vanished.
Zabuza snorted and withdrew his Decapitating Broadsword.
Gato immediately plastered a flattering smile on his face.
"Zabuza, I need you to finish that man off for me. I hired you, didn't I? You can't just sit back and do nothing!"
Zabuza scoffed.
"You don't need to tell me—I'll handle it."
"Then why haven't you—"
"Got a problem?"
A murderous aura filled the room.
Gato flinched and instantly swallowed the rest of his complaint.
Without another word, Zabuza stormed out of the room, his mood foul.
As soon as he was gone, Gato's expression twisted into a cold sneer.
"Hah! These damn ninjas think they're something special!"
Turning to one of his men, he snapped, "Go to the black market. Tell them to bring Kakuzu here. Tell him it's a big job!"
The wandering ninja nodded and disappeared into the night.
Gato smirked, but as he thought about Kakuzu's price, his eye twitched.
(Tch. That guy is expensive...)
Of course, with his wealth, hiring Kakuzu was hardly an issue. But as a businessman, wasting money never sat well with him.
Inside the dimly lit room, Haku was carefully preparing medicinal soup. His gaze flickered toward Zabuza, hesitation written on his face.
Zabuza strapped his ninja sword to his back, preparing to leave.
"Zabuza-sama…"
"Shut up," Zabuza cut him off coldly. "You're just a tool. Don't interfere."
"…Yes."
Haku hesitated again before quickly bowing.
"Then… please, allow me to come with you."
Zabuza snorted but didn't reject him. Without another word, he stepped out, and Haku silently followed.
Zabuza wasn't eager for a rematch against Kakashi. His injuries from their last fight hadn't fully healed.
Kakashi had used Zabuza's own blood to summon his ninja hounds, breaking through the Hidden Mist technique. The Chidori had nearly finished him off—if not for Haku's interference, he wouldn't be standing here now.
As they walked, they eventually arrived at a breathtaking field of flowers.
A sea of petals stretched endlessly before them, swaying gently in the breeze.
Zabuza sat down without a word, staring silently at the scenery.
Haku, smiling softly, plucked a stray petal from his hair.
"It's beautiful, Zabuza-sama."
Zabuza said nothing.
Haku quietly leaned against him, letting the silence linger.
Another gust of wind swept through the field, scattering petals around them.
For a brief moment, it was as if the flowers themselves were dancing around them.
---
Meanwhile, at Tazuna's house…
Kakashi had recovered quickly—his injuries were already nearly healed.
He gathered everyone for a small strategy meeting.
"My wounds are almost gone, and I know Zabuza hasn't fully recovered yet. The best move is to strike first. We have the advantage—we shouldn't just sit back and wait."
Tazuna raised a hand.
"I know where Gato's hideout is!"
"Perfect," Kakashi replied.
"Then, Mr. Tazuna, you and your family should find a safe place to hide before the battle begins."
Chihiro glanced at Tokumoto Kyotoshi.
Kyotoshi nodded. "I'll go with Tazuna and help keep them safe."
Sakiya watched the discussion unfold, feeling a strange mix of emotions.
(This… is completely different from the original events.)
(But… I guess it doesn't matter.)
Once all preparations were complete, the two teams stood at the ready.
Kakashi looked at them all.
"Are you prepared?"
Everyone nodded in unison.
"Then… move out!"
Not long after, the group arrived near Gato's hideout.
Kakashi and Chihiro crouched at the front, observing the building.
"Tch. This won't be easy," Chihiro muttered. "There are too many guards and lookout posts. Sneaking in might be impossible."
"Do we just take them out?"
Kakashi studied the area, then pointed.
"There's a weak spot in their defenses. We can slip in through there."
Chihiro looked closer and nodded in understanding.
(A visual blind spot… With the right timing, we can sneak in unnoticed.)
But then, she glanced back at their team—the six younger shinobi waiting behind them.
She motioned toward Kakashi.
Kakashi rubbed his chin.
"Ah… right. That could be a problem."
"But," he continued, "we can scout ahead first and wait for the right moment."
"Alright," Chihiro agreed. "Let's do this."
Boom—!
A massive explosion erupted in Gato's courtyard, sending shockwaves through the air. A thick column of smoke billowed upward, filling the sky.
Kakashi and Chihiro exchanged glances before turning to their teams.
"Move in!" Kakashi ordered.
The explosion had drawn the attention of all the guards. The hidden and visible sentries had abandoned their posts, rushing toward the source of the blast.

Within the Courtyard
Kakuzu stood amid the wreckage, his expression cold and impassive. His gaze settled on Zabuza, analyzing him like a merchant inspecting goods.
"Zabuza Momochi… an infamous rogue shinobi. The bounty on your head is quite high—much higher than your actual strength would suggest."
Beside Zabuza, a floating ice mirror shimmered in the air.
They had been ambushed.
The small house where they had been staying was now reduced to rubble.
Zabuza gripped his massive Decapitating Broadsword tightly, his lips curling into a sneer.
"Tch. A coward who only knows how to attack from the shadows dares to talk big?"
Without another word, Zabuza lunged, swinging his sword in a deadly arc straight at Kakuzu.
Kakuzu raised a hand.
From the ground, black tendrils shot up like writhing snakes, intercepting the attack.
Zabuza twisted mid-air, narrowly avoiding the attack.
"What the hell…?" His eyes narrowed at the eerie, pulsating black threads wriggling across Kakuzu's body.
Kakuzu tilted his head slightly, as if mildly impressed.
"Oh? You actually dodged. Looks like you're not just another weakling."
His hands moved in a blur of hand signs.
Zabuza didn't hesitate.
"Haku!"
"Understood—Demonic Ice Crystal Mirrors!"
A dome of ice mirrors instantly surrounded Kakuzu, trapping him within a reflective prison.
Kakuzu barely glanced at the technique before forming his own hand seals.
"Fire Style: Searing Migraine!"
A massive inferno erupted from his mask, consuming the ice mirrors in an instant.
Haku's eyes widened in shock.
(So fast…!)
Zabuza reacted immediately.
"Water Style: Hidden Mist Jutsu!"
A dense fog rapidly spread across the battlefield, swallowing everything in thick, chakra-infused mist.

As the mist engulfed the area, Sakiya's eyes glowed with interest.
(The mechanics of this technique… it's similar to my Erosion Chakra.)
She had drawn inspiration from the Hidden Mist Jutsu when developing her own abilities.
If chakra could cling to water vapor, then logically, it could also adhere to air itself.
The only challenge was controlling something as intangible as air molecules.
(But I have my own methods…)
She shook off the distraction, refocusing on the battle ahead.

Within the Mist
Zabuza moved like a ghost, his heavy blade dragging lightly against the ground. His voice echoed eerily through the fog.
"The throat… spinal cord… lungs… liver… carotid artery… collarbone… kidneys… heart…"
"Do you know which fatal point I'll target first?"
Kakuzu remained unfazed, shifting his position.
"Trying to play predator?" he muttered. "Let me show you true power."
He lifted his hand.
"Fire Style: Searing Migraine!
Wind Style: Pressure Damage!"
Two of his masked creatures emerged from his back, combining their jutsu.
Fire and wind fused together.
The resulting inferno was no longer a simple fire—it became a raging storm of destruction.
The Hidden Mist Jutsu evaporated instantly, the heat searing the air.
And Zabuza was caught directly in the attack's path.
"Ice Style: Crystal Shield!"
Haku reacted instantly, forming multiple layers of ice barriers.
But the firestorm crashed through them effortlessly.
The sheer force sent Zabuza flying backward, crashing into the ground.
"Lightning Style: False Darkness!"
A bolt of lightning followed, striking straight toward Zabuza—
But at the last moment—
A figure leapt in front of him.
Haku.
The young ninja smiled softly.
Tears glistened at the corners of his eyes.
Zabuza's pupils contracted in horror.
"Haku—!"
