Sakuragi muttered something under his breath, and Tsuchiya Tsukigami caught a faint whisper of it. He thought he heard the word death...
"What? What did you say?"
Sakuragi adjusted his glasses while running, his expression unreadable.
"Nothing. Let's pick up the pace."
"Alright!"
---
Back on the battlefield, Sakiya faced off against Kakuzu.
Kakuzu raised an eyebrow. "Your strongest technique?"
"That's right! Be afraid! But it won't help you!" Sakiya grinned confidently, hands on her hips.
Kakuzu glanced at the arrogant girl in front of him, unimpressed.
"Whatever your move is, let's see if you can survive this first."
"Fire Release: Searing Migraine!"
A massive fireball roared toward Sakiya. But instead of dodging, she simply smiled.
"Now… let the Dimensional Supreme Trial begin!"
The fireball passed straight through her.
Kakuzu's eyes narrowed.
"An illusion? No… an intangible clone?"
Suddenly, the symbols and markings on the ground began to glow and shift.
Kakuzu's mind raced. The design looked eerily familiar. It reminded him of the ritual circles Hidan used to perform his deadly curses.
So this brat's technique requires a special setup…
His eyes darted toward the formation Sakiya had drawn earlier.
That's it! This jutsu relies on the terrain! If I destroy the markings, she won't be able to activate her technique!
Without hesitation, Kakuzu unleashed his most powerful combined elemental attack, fusing Wind and Fire Release into a devastating blast.
BOOM!
A massive explosion erupted, obliterating the ground where Sakiya's symbols had been drawn.
As the smoke cleared, Kakuzu laughed.
"Haha! Surprised, kid?"
Sakiya stared at the destruction in disbelief.
"What...?"
Kakuzu smirked.
"Your technique depended on those markings, didn't it? That's why you were so desperate to keep me inside that formation from the start.
Too bad for you—I figured it out."
Sakiya's eyes widened slightly, a look of confusion flashing across her face.
Kakuzu smirked. Got her.
"Now you can't use any of your techniques."
For a moment, Sakiya remained stunned. Then, she quickly coughed twice, adjusted her expression, and dramatically widened her eyes.
"As expected of the Great Dark Lord! You destroyed my Judgment Formation so quickly."
Kakuzu burst out laughing. "Kid, you're still too inexperienced!"
---
From the sidelines, Kakashi and Chihiro watched in silence, their faces unreadable.
"…Kakashi-senpai, is this guy a little… off?"
"I think so…" Kakashi muttered.
"But he's ridiculously strong. We wouldn't stand a chance."
"Yeah… maybe he traded strength for intelligence."
Meanwhile, Kakuzu's smug expression faded as he noticed something odd—the magic circle was still spinning.
Sakiya followed his gaze.
Oh. Right.
She hurriedly raised her hand and dismissed the formation, pretending to stay composed. Then, with a serious expression, she looked up at Kakuzu.
"My Eye of Death… has finally met a true opponent."
Kakuzu twitched. He had just watched her fumble with the formation.
I got tricked by this kid!
No more talking. No more nonsense. He was done.
"You're really getting on my nerves, kid."
Three of Kakuzu's masked entities floated beside him, black tendrils writhing around them. With a single step, the ground beneath him cracked.
Without hesitation, he launched forward.
His black threads shot toward Sakiya's heart—fast, precise, lethal.
But they struck nothing but air.
Kakuzu's sharp eyes narrowed. An illusion?
Before he could react, a massive wooden mallet appeared out of nowhere, crashing down toward his forehead.
Sakiya grinned.
"Illusion or not—you can't scare me!"
Kakuzu turned around cautiously, his eyes locked on Sakiya.
The next moment, a heavy blow crashed down on his head.
A hollow, almost wooden thud echoed through the battlefield.
His head slammed into the ground.
Boom!
The impact was so powerful that his forehead dug deep into the earth, sending tremors through the battlefield.
For a second, he was dazed.
Then—rage.
Chakra surged violently through his body as black tendrils erupted outward, tearing through everything around him.
With a furious roar, he yanked his head free from the ground.
"Damn brat! You're really starting to piss me off!"
His bloodshot eyes locked onto Sakiya, who awkwardly hid the oversized mallet behind her back.
Despite his anger, Kakuzu forced himself to think.
How did she hit me?
If it was an illusion, how could she land a real attack?
If it wasn't, then how did she avoid my counterstrike?
I need to figure out what's going on.
Kakuzu didn't take any chances.
Three of his masked entities surrounded him, taking up strategic positions.
"Maximum-range saturation attack! Let's see where you can run this time!"
Fire. Wind. Lightning. A storm of chakra tore through the battlefield, scorching, slashing, and obliterating everything in sight.
Then—a small white hand emerged from the ground beneath him.
It lunged for his ankle.
Kakuzu grinned.
Gotcha.
His black tendrils struck down instantly—only for the hand to dissolve into a puff of smoke.
Before he could react—another hammer blow crashed onto the back of his head.
This time, a crisp clunk echoed.
His skin had already hardened with Earth Release, but he still felt the impact vibrate through his skull.
Kakuzu's tentacles lashed out in retaliation, piercing through the figure of Sakiya—another clone.
His eyes twitched.
His anger boiled over.
"You little—"
He suddenly spun around.
Sakiya stood right behind him, mallet raised high.
She froze, caught mid-swing. Then, with an embarrassed grin—she swung down anyway.
Kakuzu moved first.
His black tendrils shot out, faster than her hammer—but once again, they passed through empty air.
He didn't chase.
Instead, he backstepped, putting distance between them.
Then, he stood still.
Silent.
Thinking.
His head throbbed.
For the first time, he stopped and really looked at this kid.
After all this time, after all these attacks—he hadn't landed a single real hit.
I'm not fighting her. I'm being played with.
His fists clenched.
Where did I go wrong?
