Chapter 14: Being Nostradamus could be of Great Help Part I (Z)
[A/N: Hello everyone.
Today the protagonist will have a small problem. He'll go out to look for supplies, but he'll run into a bit of trouble. What will it be? Zombies? People? Robots? Robot-zombies?
I'm joking about the robot part, by the way.
Comment. I'll read you.

At the base.
"What would you like for Christmas?", I asked her suddenly. She seemed to want to talk about other things to avoid the gloom of our situation.
"Hmmm… if we were in a normal situation, I wouldn't ask for any specific gift. I'd rather be in the company of friends or family and have a nice dinner", she replied, very hesitant about the change of subject. To be honest, I was surprised by the change of subject, too; I didn't seem like the talkative type.
"Although with the way things are, I don't think my wish will come true", she said, sounding even sadder and more distressed than before.
"Apparently, I couldn't avoid this awkward moment", I thought, watching the mood get increasingly gloomy.
Neither of us wanted to continue talking, and we spent the rest of the time finishing our meal just staring at our plates. I don't think she thinks I'm wrong to bring it up; in fact, she seemed much more relaxed now that she knew I wasn't kicking her off the base. "Do you want to go up to your room or are you staying in the living room?", I asked her after noticing we had both finished our breakfast.
"I'll stay on the first floor", she replied, carefully getting up from the table.
"If you need to go up, you must let me know so I can help you. Don't make your foot worse by overexerting yourself", I said in a stern voice. To which she just nodded.
I left the base and went to get the cart with bags like the ones from the day before. It seemed like she was going back to get supplies; maybe she'd go back to the pharmacy she'd already visited.
"I'll be back soon. Wait for me here, Anna", I said once I had everything at hand.
"Be very careful", she said as she watched me walk out the back door.
I headed out the back exit of the villa, carrying the cart and the bags I had packed earlier. When I left the villa, I walked in the direction of the pharmacy, or at least it was the same street as before.
The journey was quite frustrating and filled with suspense, as while the wheelbarrow made no noise, each collision produced a metallic screech that seemed to spread in all directions. With each loud noise, I stopped and checked my surroundings. Nothing happened until halfway through the journey, but halfway through, I collided with a trash can, which fell and made a lot of noise.
"This is the end of my big story", I thought after panicking.
I knew that a noise like that, in an area that was once so crowded, could be what led me to a situation where I was surrounded by all fronts, with no escape, only despair on all sides. However, perhaps with the zombie tides, this area wouldn't be so crowded, and it could save me from this difficult situation.
Just as I thought I'd be stuck waiting for my inevitable fate, I suddenly moved towards a nearby store. I quickly hid inside with my spear, entering its storage area. To my surprise, it was a bike shop, and it was very empty. I don't mean empty items that were previously sold in the store, but rather, it bore no trace of bodies lying nearby or that it had been completely looted.
Although it was in disarray and the checkout area showed signs of stolen money, there didn't seem to be any survivors or the presence of these rotting beings. "I'm talking about zombies, not corrupt politicians", I thought, trying to make a joke to relax.
I went deeper into the store, checking every part of it to avoid any surprises that might kill me. I began to hear noises from outside the store; luckily, nothing inside moved.
After hiding behind the checkout to get a clear view of what was happening outside, I saw 10 zombies begin to roam the street in front of the store. The situation seemed pretty difficult. The worst part is that I left fairly quickly so I could quickly finish recovering supplies, but now this could backfire.
I don't have any durable clothing; I left the armor I normally wear under my clothes at the base, and above all, the only weapon I have is my precious spear.
However, luck is on my side this time. The shop I'm in not only sells bicycles, their parts, and auxiliary items, but also specializes in clothing, which is quite durable, along with some armor. This clothing can save me from being scratched or bitten. The only thing I must keep in mind is how to get out of this and not get caught among hundreds of zombies.
[A/N: There's a type of material in the clothing worn by professional cyclists that's quite durable. Do you think it can stop a bite?]
Without making much noise, I set out to find the storage area. If I'm lucky, I'll find one of those full-body suits in my size, along with some armor so I can be as well-equipped as possible.
The warehouse near the checkout was lit up. Before entering, I checked the situation outside the store again. It seemed the number of zombies wasn't increasing much; only a couple more had joined, but I couldn't be sure this zombie crowd wouldn't grow any larger.
Inside the warehouse, I saw that most of the items were various types of bicycles and many spare parts. I continued searching quietly, while mentally praying to find what I was looking for.
Halfway through the warehouse, I saw shelves labeled clothing and apparel, which allowed me to relax a bit. I looked through the boxes until I found the box with the full-body suits. "Looks like my good luck was able to keep me company in all this chaos", I thought as I saw a suit in my size.
I took it out of the box and immediately began to get dressed. Once dressed, I began looking for things that might be useful. For example, I found some fairly sturdy gloves with a good grip, which will allow me to handle my spear properly and also protect something as exposed as my fingers.
I also found the protectors I was looking for. I quickly covered my legs and arms with protectors, trying to cover most of my limbs. The situation no longer allowed me to stay light, so a few more kilos wouldn't be a problem.
When I finished, I approached the store's checkout again and saw that more zombies had gathered. There were now around 20 of them, wandering aimlessly around the street, making noise and waiting for any stimulus to attack.
Without waiting long for even more zombies to gather, I grabbed a bag of bicycle parts, which was quite heavy, and approached the store's entrance without making any noise or sudden movements that might alert any of them.
Once I got close to the entrance, I could see there were more zombies than I thought. Without hesitation, I threw the bag I'd grabbed earlier and aimed at a car far from the store, specifically its window. I chose an older car because I didn't want to break the window of a newer car and having that car alarm attract even more zombies.
The situation was so desperate that the time it took for the bag to hit the window seemed to be slow motion. I could see the bag traveling through each segment of the throwing arc, passing over several zombies. My heart was beating at a speed I could perceive even in this dream.
Finally, the bag hit the window with a loud bang, a sound that was exactly what the zombies needed to be attracted to. Several zombies turned in the direction of the noise and began walking toward the car, hurrying as fast as they could. Slowly, the zombies began to gather around the car, forming a small crowd, but the zombies not near the car, and some who had already noticed there was nothing to attack, began to move away from the car to seek new stimuli. At least the noise did its job of scaring away the zombies right in front of the store.
I knew it was time to run, but I also knew I wasn't going to get out of here without a fight.
I quickly left the store, without looking at the cart or the things I had brought in it. I began to jog gently without expending much energy, passing in front of the stores adjacent to the bike shop, dodging a few zombies without trying to kill them with my spear. Apparently, the most important thing in these cases is to keep my distance and look for an area where I could get rid of those chasing me. I'd barely advanced about 10 meters when I looked behind me to see how bad the situation was. I saw the zombies I'd dodged starting to follow me. Due to the herd effect, the zombies nearby and those searching near the car began to follow the others, trying to get closer to me.
At first, I thought he'd start running to outrun the zombies or try to zigzag through other streets, trying to lose them in the streets.
But it was quite the opposite.
As soon as I approached a building with a small park at the entrance, I stopped to take stock. This building was barely half a block from the store.
I didn't know why, but I was specifically looking at benches, sculptures, and stairs. Apparently, he was forming a plan to take them out in this open area.
Without hesitating too much, I climbed some wide stairs nearby. They weren't very high, but they looked like they might make it difficult for the zombies to pass, or at least a little. I turned around and watched as they slowly approached. The good thing I noticed about the situation was that, although there were already around 30 zombies, they didn't seem to attract more of them from the surrounding area.
"It seems like it was a good idea not to run with this zombie mob through the streets", I thought as I watched them approach and noticed my panic rising.
As the first zombie was about to climb the first step of the ladder, I quickly stabbed it in the eye with my spear, with a precision that would make a Spartan envious. I could feel the spear getting slightly stuck, as debris and semi-coagulated blood squirted out as the spear hit the eye socket. I also noticed that the zombies stop resisting and give in to gravity. Taking advantage of the momentum, I quickly pulled the spear back and let the zombie fall. I could see everything in slow motion, and the worst part was that even though this scene could repulse anyone, it didn't affect me.
"I could get used to this", I thought.
[A/N: CHAPTER COMPLETED
Our protagonist is in serious trouble. Will he be able to overcome it? Or will Anna have to collect the Dragon Balls to revive him? Will Gohan be able to defeat Cell?
The protagonist used his brain, and I helped him a little by getting him into a bike shop. Will it be enough for him to survive? Or will I have to create another main character?
