Chapter 468: Different Ways Of Thinking
(From Demetrius's Perspective)
It took a long time to check all the knights. Perita and Calix helped a lot. Even though Perita was annoying, almost all the time, I had to admit that even she was quite serious when it came to working. Being a knight was most probably considered the best gift in the world for her.
Blue told me so a lot of times before. She always loved Perita even if she was annoying. Blue would always say that Perita was a good knight, just a little immature.
I looked up at the library window where my wife was. She was talking to King Ford about something. I could hear bits of it. It included 'red flag', 'must be', meant to be', and 'need to'. The conversation ended with King Ford saying, "Our points will not match, my dear friend. There are too many differences in the way we think.
It is a good thing that you are satisfied with your life. That is all that matters."
I returned to her as soon as I was done. I was not sure if all I was doing was enough to ensure her safety. She would say it was if I asked her. However, I could not believe her regarding this matter. In this case, Luc's wife, the mistress of the magic tower was dependable. She cared for Blue a lot and always sent me letters regarding her health.
There were some points regarding Blue's health that she would not write to me, so I would not get worried. That were the points that Ruby wrote to me. It was not mentioned to Blue, vas she would say it was unnecessary.
King Ford was also supposed to send me letters regarding things related to her safety and if he found any suspicious movement. He kept his word and sent me three letters with detailed explanations of everything. He did not find anything unusual and for the time being, thought it was a safe place.
I had prepared another place so we could move Blue there just in case. It was better to be prepared than sorry.
"I stood here the whole time and saw everything. You all worked hard," Blue said.
"It would have been better if you had rather returned to your room than stand here," I said. "Shouldn't you sleep? Don't you feel sleepy? It's two at night."
"Nah, not really," she said. "Isn't that right, Evan? We were talking the whole time. There is no way I would feel sleepy. Besides, you were awake. How could I be so inconsiderate?"
"Well, that would not be being inconsiderate," King Ford said. "You are carrying a child while His Highness is not. It certainly wouldn't be inconsiderate. It would have been good for you if anything."
"I suppose so. But I was not sleepy, nor am I sleepy now," she said.
"I know you will keep saying that," I sighed.
"So, is the work done? Where will the knights stay? Surely, you are not thinking of having them stay outside when it is this chilly?" she asked, eyeing me suspiciously.
My wife was not used to this world, and how this system worked yet. Anyone here would know that the rational thing to do was to keep the knights outside, probably under tents. They would be able to guard the grounds and some of them would be inside as well. Blue was too compassionate and sometimes, thought of others before herself. The knights were here to protect her, not to be served as guests.
Even though it had been more than two years since she had come here, she was still way too kind and compassionate, than, we, the rulers, were ought to be. However, I did not hate it. There should be a change in the stereotypical rulers. I was no exception to that stereotype, but it was a good thing that she was. It made her special and she shone brighter than anyone.
If she was too kind, I could just make her understand that it was not necessary and if I was too ruthless, she could stop me.
It was perfect.
I told her briefly about my plan and she complained, just as I expected. However, King Ford also tried to explain the reasons for my plan to her and after a while, she understood enough to not complain much, even if she did not agree with it.
"Is it really okay to act like that? No, I am, by no means, saying I will try to stop you. It is just… I cannot understand much. At least, I cannot think the way you do."
"It is very simple, my dear wife. We are from different worlds. I have been here for almost twenty-seven years and you have been here for two years. Just the way, you do not agree with the way I think, in your world, it will be hard for me to understand why you and other people act the way they do.
You tell me that people dance in front of that small device for a few seconds for no reason, they cry in front of that device, and sometimes, tell sad stories while dancing- I will never understand the reason why they do so. The only thing I feel is that they all should probably go to a mental asylum and get treatment, for the sake of trying to cure their poor brain."
She did not argue much anymore. I probably made a good enough point to let her know that what I did was not as unreasonable as she thought it to be.
As we returned to our room, I was struck with a probability. I was not sure of it as there was confusion about it many times, but then again, there were times, I could feel that it was true, what I suspected was true.
"What do you think of King Ford?" I asked as we returned to our chamber.
"What do you mean what I think of him?" she asked, unbothered and slightly surprised. "He is the King of Trouvaille and someone who is helping us. What more is there to think of him?"
"I mean, is he helpful enough? Does he bother you?" I asked. It was not exactly what I wanted to ask, however, I felt like she was completely unaware of any possibility of the kind I thought of.
"No, not really. He is a good friend, a true one. He and I sometimes do argue about different things, however, I never have a dull time with him. He can talk a great deal, you see, and doesn't want to let go of a matter easily," she said. "Why do you ask?"
"I was wondering. I always tell you how I cannot like him," I said. "I was worried he would annoy you."
"No, babe, he is not like that. He is a mature guy who would not act so childish and annoy me. He knows his limits. Even Ruby, who did not like him much, likes him now and told me many good points about him and how he is not as she had expected him before. Calix and Flint think he is quite admirable. Even Flint too, can you believe it?"
"Where is he, by the way? I have not seen him and forgot to ask you."
"He went back for two days as Dela has a fever," I said. "Poor baby! I wish she gets better soon…"
I had seen Flint's daughter a long time ago. I still remembered how Blue looked at the baby. Her eyes were full of love, just like the way she looked at me. It was clear how much she was going to care for and love our baby.
