Chapter 5: Chapter 5 Shameless Old Man
Early morning, just as the sky began to lighten, the delicate moment when night transitions into day, the world seemed enveloped in a serene, gauzy tranquility.
In the back mountains of Konoha, a winding stream flowed like the most poetic stroke of a green ink painting, shrouded in a thin mist that added an air of mystery to the scene.
As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the haze, they danced on the water's surface, creating a shimmering effect like countless tiny diamonds sparkling beneath the surface. The stream flowed gently, its clear waters revealing the smooth pebbles and swaying aquatic plants at the bottom. Occasionally, a few small fish leaped out of the water, only to dive back in, creating delicate ripples.
On either side of the stream, lush trees stood, their leaves adorned with dewdrops that glistened like crystals. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves, producing a soft, soothing sound that mingled with the distant chirping of birds. The dewdrops slid off the tips of the leaves, falling into the stream and creating tiny ripples.
A small, golden-haired boy stood barefoot and shirtless on the surface of the water, his stance steady and unmoving despite the flowing current. His large eyes were narrowed into slits, only a hint of their blue color visible through the gaps.
He stood there silently, as if he had been there for a long time. The splashing water had already soaked his hair and black trousers, and droplets rolled down the faint lines of muscle on his upper body.
Plop!
Plop!
Plop!
Just then, three small fish leaped out of the water near him. Naruto's eyes, which had been narrowed, suddenly widened. The three fish seemed to hang in the air, frozen in time.
With a swift motion, he thrust the wooden stick in his hand forward, the sound of it cutting through the air as it pierced through the bodies of the three fish.
"Today's breakfast is solved."
Naruto smiled and leaped onto the riverbank, where a campfire and a tent were set up. He had been living here for several months, far away from the annoying village. It was good for his mental health.
The main reason he had moved here, though, was to train. As early as the second day after his transmigration, Hiruzen had come to test him. After all, an orphan who knew nothing suddenly learning to extract Chakra under his watch was something the Hokage couldn't ignore.
Naruto had pinned it all on the Nine-Tails.
He told Hiruzen that while he was sleeping, he had seen a large fox locked in a cage. The fox had told him that if he followed its instructions, he could gain the recognition of the villagers. So, he did as the fox said and managed to extract Chakra.
The fox had also said that if he opened the cage, it could teach him several powerful Ninjutsu, making it even easier to gain everyone's approval.
This had nearly caused Hiruzen to summon Enma on the spot. He had thought Naruto had already broken the Nine-Tails' seal. But after carefully inspecting the seal and confirming that the Eight Trigrams Seal was still intact, Hiruzen had breathed a sigh of relief.
Before leaving, Hiruzen had sternly warned Naruto that the Nine-Tails didn't know any Ninjutsu and couldn't possibly teach him. If he really wanted to learn Ninjutsu, he could come to Hiruzen for guidance.
Since then, Hiruzen had started visiting Naruto more frequently.
After cleaning the fish and skewering them on sticks, Naruto began roasting them over the campfire. Just as the fish were almost done, he heard the sound of shuffling footsteps behind him.
Without even turning around, Naruto knew who it was. Sure enough, it was the Third Hokage, Sarutobi Hiruzen.
Though his face showed signs of fatigue, Hiruzen still wore a kind smile as he greeted Naruto warmly.
"Naruto, it's been a while. Having grilled fish for breakfast again?"
'Why is this old man here so early today?'
'Doesn't he have anyone at home to cook for him? Why does he keep coming here to freeload?'
Naruto couldn't help but grumble inwardly, but on the surface, he put on a bright smile and said excitedly, "Grandpa Sandaime, you're here! Would you like some fish?"
With that, Naruto picked up one of the nearly cooked fish and handed it to Hiruzen with a cheerful expression.
"Then thank you, Naruto-chan."
When Hiruzen saw this, his smile became even bigger, and he took the grilled fish handed over by Naruto with a smile.
'Indeed, Naruto was such a well-behaved child. Even though he had distanced himself from the village, his intention was to avoid causing trouble for the villagers. His Will of Fire burned just as brightly as anyone else's.'
'He was one of the village's new leaves.'
Hiruzen felt a sense of pride, but Naruto was inwardly gritting his teeth, 'This old man had actually accepted the fish after just a polite offer.'
Naruto hadn't expected Hiruzen to show up at this hour, and the three fish were just enough for him alone.
"Hey, kid, if you don't want to give the fish to this old man, can't you just tell him no?"
Inside the seal space, the Nine-Tails couldn't help but comment, feeling a bit exasperated by Naruto's two-faced behavior.
"What do you know? If I dared to refuse him today, he'd probably use the excuse of my 'lack of Will of Fire' to drag me to the Anbu tomorrow and start brainwashing me with that Will of Fire nonsense."
"These old guys love using the Will of Fire to brainwash people, making them sacrifice themselves while they reap the benefits. This grilled fish may be small, but it's filled with my profound Will of Fire."
Naruto responded to the Nine-Tails with some annoyance.
"I really don't understand you humans. Only those who lack strength resort to all these convoluted schemes." The Nine-Tails scoffed.
"And that's why you're sealed inside me."
Hearing this, the Nine-Tails was instantly triggered.
"Grandpa Sandaime, be careful of the fish bones," Naruto reminded him with a look of concern.
Hiruzen's old face was practically blooming like a flower from how much he was smiling.
"Grandpa knows."
The old man and the young boy sat silently on the rocks by the river, enjoying their breakfast.
A golden-haired child and an elderly man, savoring a moment of familial bliss.
"Naruto-chan, are you going to train later?"
After finishing the grilled fish, Hiruzen asked.
"Yeah." Naruto nodded heavily and said with expectation, "I want to get stronger as fast as I can. That way, I can protect everyone in the village and make them accept me sooner."
In the end, it was all because the system hadn't been generous enough. Aside from giving him Chakra Mastery on the first day, the system hadn't triggered again since.
During the first few days, Naruto had wandered around the village, enduring countless glares, curses, and even some bratty kids' provocations, but not a single option had triggered.
In this situation, Naruto decisively chose to temporarily abandon the system and rely on his other cheat, Kurama.
As long as he didn't train himself to death, he would train like his life depended on it.
As for the danger of being alone in the wilderness, the Nine-Tails' malice detection made it clear that there were always two teams of Anbu watching over him.
"What a good child you are, Naruto. One day, everyone will recognize you, because you are the true hero of Konoha."
Hiruzen was secretly amazed by Naruto's training regimen. After all, even Guy from his Academy days would have been left in the dust by this level of intensity.
He couldn't help but glance at the massive boulder not far away, which is covered in dense fist, palm, and foot prints.
'The Nine-Tails' Chakra combined with the Uzumaki Clan's bloodline was truly terrifying. Even if he never fully mastered the Nine-Tails, Naruto would still reach the strength of an Elite Jonin in the future.'
"I will definitely achieve it." Naruto immediately stood up straight, pounding his chest with confidence. But his confident expression soon turned hesitant.
Seeing Naruto like this, Hiruzen could guess what was on his mind. He hesitated, wanting to pretend he hadn't noticed, but thinking of Naruto's desire for recognition, he finally asked, "What's wrong, Naruto-chan? Is there something else you don't understand? "
Naruto hesitated for a moment, as if finally gathering his courage, and said: "Grandpa Sandaime, I've completely mastered the Shadow Clone Jutsu and the Rasengan. Can you teach me a new Ninjutsu?"
Although he had been observing Naruto's training progress daily through the Telescope Technique, hearing it firsthand still left Hiruzen inwardly shocked.
'Minato, you really had a remarkable son.'
'This is the hope of Konoha.'
"Naruto-chan's talent is higher than I thought." Hiruzen's face showed a mix of surprise and pride, "Your talent surpasses even that of the Yondaime in his time."
Naruto immediately put on a shy expression, scratching his head and saying: "I also want to become a hero like the Yondaime Hokage, someone who protects the village."
Hiruzen stroked his beard, his vision blurring slightly as he looked at Naruto in the sunlight. For a moment, he saw a double image, as if the Fourth Hokage himself were standing there.
"In that case, today I'll teach you about Chakra Nature Transformation and Shape Transformation."
