Chapter 87: Alex's Pet
Zephyra crossed her arms with a playful smirk. "Let's see what kind of familiar the leader of our court ends up with."
Alex stepped into the center of the carved summoning circle. Right away, the air around him grew heavier, responding to the strength of his presence. Unlike Cypher's quiet and calm energy, Alex's aura sparked faintly—not with lightning or flames, but with pure power. It carried the weight of control, strength, and something unusual… a mix of two different natures.
He shut his eyes and took a deep breath.
Then he raised one hand—and let his demonic energy flow freely.
The summoning circle lit up, the runes glowing bright white and black. The ground shook slightly, and the air filled with a soft hum that sounded almost like music.
A single drop of his blood fell from his finger—dark, but with tiny streaks of shining silver white.
The summoning circle reacted. The air shimmered. The lights in the room dimmed.
Then, a rip suddenly opened in the space above the circle—as if someone had sliced the air apart.
From inside that tear came a wind full of whispers—hundreds of faint voices speaking at once, too quiet to understand, but impossible to ignore. Darkness poured out and folded in on itself until a shape started to form.
It wasn't anything like the other familiars.
It didn't look like the stormy beast Vharran, or the graceful fox Sayrion, and it definitely wasn't silent like the Shadow Dweller.
This creature floated in midair—its body long and snake-like, made of swirling smoke, silver flame, and scales that shimmered in the dim light. Its wings looked like torn strips of twilight sky, stretching wide. On its narrow, cobra-like head were six glowing red eyes that blinked in a rotating pattern.
At its chest, there was a silver core glowing softly—it looked angelic, but the energy coming from it was clearly demonic.
The creature circled above Alex once, then slowly came down—twisting through the air like a ribbon before gently settling on the floor in front of him.
"…That was fast," Zephyra muttered, clearly impressed.
"What is that thing?" Cypher asked, watching closely.
Mygarth blinked a few times, staring at the creature. "I… I think that's a Nyxian Wyrm."
"A what now?" Alex asked, raising an eyebrow.
"A hybrid-type familiar," Mygarth said in a serious tone. "It comes from the space between worlds. It's extremely rare—some say it's born from angelic beasts that were devoured and corrupted serpent spirits. It's part holy, part demonic… and dangerously intelligent."
Alex raised his brow as the creature stared at him with its strange rotating eyes. He could feel it—this wasn't some mindless beast. It had a sharp, curious mind. It was aware. Thinking.
"So… you're mine now?" he asked softly.
The creature let out a soft trill—a sound that was half a hum, half a musical ring. Then, slowly, it bowed its head.
The bond locked in.
The system gave the confirmation:
[Familiar Bound: Nyxian Wyrm — Class: Hybrid / Unique]
[Name: Not Assigned]
[Status: Adaptive / Sync Pending / Intelligence: High]
Alex stepped back, watching as the Nyxian Wyrm slowly faded into a smoky mist and slid into his shadow, where it settled—still and alert.
Zephyra let out a long whistle. "Your summon is as unique as you."
Cypher gave a small nod. "Makes sense, though. That thing is like your mirror image—both light and dark."
Alex gave a slight smile. "Exactly what I was hoping for."
"Now for the name… I'm just going with Nyx," he said.
As soon as he spoke the name, the Wyrm stirred and glided silently out of his shadow. Its sleek, smoke-like body coiled around his arm in a fluid motion. With one last shimmer, it wrapped around his wrist and solidified, taking on the shape of a dark, scaled bracelet that faintly glowed with silver lines.
"So this is what you meant by they can fight with me," Alex said, holding up his arm. "I can shift it into a whip-like weapon if needed."
Mygarth nodded respectfully. "Yes. Some familiars—especially those with high intelligence or strong resonance—can shapeshift into weapons for their partner. Most can't do that, but yours can. That's… quite rare."
He gave Alex a look of quiet admiration.
"You're not just strong," Mygarth added. "You're exceptional."
Alex rotated his wrist slowly, watching as the bracelet shimmered—then pulsed once.
In response, Nyx began to shift.
Shadow peeled away from his skin, stretching outward like liquid night. It extended into the air, twisting, coiling, elongating—until it formed a long whip-like weapon. The handle wrapped firmly into his palm, cool and alive, while the whip itself shimmered with scales of black mist and silver edges. Along its length, faint runes pulsed softly, and a distant trill echoed from deep within it, like a memory of the beast it once was.
Zephyra whistled low. "Now that's something else."
Cypher leaned in slightly, studying the transformation. "The edges… they're semi-ethereal. It'll bypass most armor like it's not even there."
Mygarth nodded again. "And it's reactive. If it's anything like other Nyxian forms, it'll respond to your thoughts mid-combat—coiling, stretching, even altering shape."
Alex gave the whip an experimental flick.
The weapon lashed through the air like a lightning strike, its end fracturing into tendrils of smoke before reconstituting itself.
He let it coil back toward his arm—and in a shimmer of silver and black, Nyx returned to its bracelet form, resting quietly against his skin.
"I don't even need to speak," Alex murmured. "It just knows."
"It's bound deeply," Mygarth said. "That's a sign of perfect compatibility. It doesn't just follow you… it understands you."
Alex looked down at the bracelet. "Damm, If I knew, that the familiars are this good, I would had summoned one long ago" he said as others laughed.
Zephyra smirked. "So… Shadow-dweller, lightning panther, ancient fox, and now a whispering void serpent? This court's getting real cozy."
Mygarth tilted his head slightly. "By the way… are you planning to give your human allies familiars too?"
Alex paused for a moment, thoughtful—then shook his head.
"Nah. Not demons, at least. I was planning to give them angelic familiars instead. Ones not from Hell."
Mygarth nodded slowly, intrigued. "Interesting choice."
