Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires

Chapter 370: The Death of the Undying

In the blink of an eye, Eldros was already upon the Dullahan. His twin greatswords clashed against the undead's weapon with a thunderous crash. The ground between them split open, chunks of earth erupting into the air.

A shockwave blasted outward, throwing everything aside, Zaroth included.

Having been swept off his feet, he was thrown dozens of feet before slamming into the wall of a barely standing building.

Darkveil was still active, so he remained mostly unhurt; however, what tormented him was his mana core.

The amount of mana Eldros was taking was staggering, and this was before he summoned the Judgmental Gaze.

Now, he was draining as much mana as Luna. It was like he was supporting two Mythical Beasts at the same time.

"Shit," he cursed softly, getting back on his feet. His mind was still a mess. He had witnessed his friend beheaded before him, only for the man to rise from the dead and aid him in taking care of his foe.

This wasn't the time to make peace with his emotions. His priority at the moment was survival above all else. He threw everything unnecessary to the back of his mind and focused on the issue at hand.

"The tree," he muttered, gaze shifting to the eerie plant. Thanks to the system, he knew the reason Eldros had been raised was because of the tree.

'So a plant is the reason for this whole mess?' he thought bitterly, finding the whole situation amusing.

If the tree—or the Great Tree, as the system had described it—had raised Eldros, it was most likely the true culprit behind the undead army of the Graveborn Empire.

'So the story about the emperor—a necromancer being in control—was all just rubbish.'

Zaroth suspected the so-called emperor had merely been a pawn, most likely controlled by the Great Tree itself, hiding the fact that a simple plant held so much power.

'Luna!' Zaroth roared, using their mental connection.

The mighty dragon, still fighting against the magma serpent bravely, heard his words and responded instantly.

'What?'

'The tree!' Because they were in a hurry, he didn't have enough time to explain everything to her.

'The fucking plant is the cause of this! Destroy it, tear it down completely!'

Receiving the command, Luna's eyes shone, and a quiet understanding passed over her.

Now it all made sense, the weird feeling she got when she first laid eyes on the tree, that unnatural sense that it wasn't supposed to exist.

'How lucky,' she mused, letting out a mighty roar to ensure the magma serpent's attention was on her.

'To think our enemy is made out of wood!' she thought, changing her course in an instant.

Lowering her altitude, she brought herself closer to the ground.

The magma serpent's molten eyes grew colder, unwilling to let this chance go. Pushing itself forward, it destroyed any building and obstacle in its way as it shot toward the dragon.

'It's quite fortunate. If I were alone, I doubt I'd be able to burn it fast enough, but with this one, things will be much easier.'

The closer she got to the tree, the more she realized just how tall it truly was.

Not to mention, this was only the part that was visible. What about its roots? If the main body was over a kilometer tall, then to support such a massive structure, the roots must have reached dozens of kilometers deep.

Landing on the tree, her gaze focused on the magma serpent, which was still pursuing her relentlessly.

A second before the beast struck, she moved out of the way, resulting in it colliding with the bulk of the tree.

ROOOAAAAAARRR

Enraged that it had missed the dragon again, the serpent let out a mighty roar and buried itself deep into the tree. Then, with its full attention on Luna, it began climbing upward in chase.

Its body still bore injuries, and just being near the tree caused lava to drip from its wounds, searing deep into the tree's trunk and burning it further.

As if by command, the Dullahan that had been locked in combat with Eldros moved its body, preparing to spring to its master's aid.

However, Eldros wasn't going to allow that. With silent steps, he appeared beside the being and struck it from the side, sending it crashing through several barely standing buildings.

The Dullahan wasn't the only undead acting this way. All the undead in the capital—no, every single undead creature that had been sustained by the tree—suddenly changed their movements, beginning to sprint toward it with the intent to help.

No matter if they were still fighting against the joined forces of the Draconian and the Crimson Sun empires, or if they were devouring corpses, they all acted in unison, their priority shifted.

Yet no matter how many undead tried to come, it was all meaningless.

What hope could these puny little creatures possibly have against a battle between two Mythical Beasts?

'We are fortunate you are quite a stupid creature,' Luna would have scoffed if she were in her human form.

She had reached the top of the Great Tree, and naturally, the serpent had followed.

Just by climbing all the way upward, it had caused the once mighty and powerful tree to begin burning due to the unbelievably hot lava.

'Now it's time for the finishing move,' she thought, diving like a missile, prompting the magma serpent to follow in hot pursuit.

Following the dragon, it wrapped its flaming body around the trunk of the tree, causing even more devastating damage.

Opening her jaws wide, Luna let out a devastating inferno on her way down, adding to the accumulating destruction.

Thick black smoke, rose high into the air, created by the hungry flames consuming the tree's structure.

Branches larger than houses began to fall to the ground below, creating havoc where they landed.

The Great Tree was dying… yet it wasn't enough.

Zaroth's eyes shone, blood beginning to fall from them. His senses expanded, reaching the Great Tree, the source of all this trouble.

Then, using his newly acquired skill Fire Control, he wielded the flames devouring the tree to speed up the process.

The result?

Total devastation. The Great Tree lit up like a torch, mimicking a beacon that rivaled the sun's light for a few minutes.

And finally, after all the damage it had endured, the tree fell, not even a single remnant of life remained.

It didn't matter if the tree itself was undead. Zaroth had already ensured it had been destroyed.

He had killed the unkillable.

Following the tree's fall, all the undead dropped to their knees, the power that had been keeping them active all this time gone, resulting in them dying on the spot.

The Dullahan that Eldros had been fighting was no different. The great being's body shuddered and fell to its knees, its energy gone, never to rise again.

The battlefield fell silent. No screams, no roars, just the crackle of fading embers and the stench of ash.

The Great Tree was gone.

The Graveborn Empire had fallen.

He had been chased by the three strongest fighters of the empire, flying across thousands of kilometers, killing countless people in his path. It was by no means an easy journey. But in the end—

Zaroth had won.

"This just leaves one more thing," he chuckled coldly, collapsing on his bottom, gaze shifting to the enraged magma serpent.

"Looks like it's time for a new addition to the collection."
