Chapter 37: Chapter 37
The last time Minato had seen Naruto, he had been a helpless, crying baby. Now, standing before him was a young man—elegant, composed, and radiating a quiet confidence. Naruto's gentle demeanor reminded Minato of himself in his younger days, and for a moment, he felt a surge of pride. His son had grown into someone remarkable.
But that pride quickly turned to sorrow as he noticed the coldness in Naruto's eyes. The boy's smile was polite, but it didn't reach his eyes. There was a distance between them, a chasm that Minato hadn't anticipated.
"Naruto," Minato began, his voice trembling with emotion. "For you, this must be the first time we've met. I'm your father, Namikaze Minato."
Naruto's expression didn't change. He took a step back, his tone calm but distant. "Fourth Hokage, you're the one who sealed the Kyuubi, aren't you?"
Minato's heart sank. He had expected tears, anger, or even a hesitant embrace. But this… this cold detachment was worse than anything he could have imagined. He glanced at the Kyuubi, suspicion flickering in his eyes. "Kyuubi, did you—"
Before he could finish, the Kyuubi interrupted with a mocking laugh. "Oh, don't look at me, Fourth Hokage. I didn't do anything. Naruto figured it all out on his own. He's a smart kid—smarter than you, apparently."
Minato's gaze returned to Naruto, his expression pained. "Naruto, I… I didn't know it would be like this. I thought the Third Hokage would take care of you, that you'd grow up loved and respected. I never wanted this for you."
Naruto's smile remained, but there was a sharp edge to his words. "You didn't know? You were the Hokage. You should have known what would happen. You left me alone, to be hated, to suffer. Do you have any idea what my life has been like?"
Minato's shoulders slumped, his regret palpable. "I'm sorry, Naruto. I truly am. I made a mistake, and I've regretted it every day since. But I want to make it right. I'm here to help you, to guide you."
Naruto's eyes narrowed, his voice cold. "Help me? Guide me? It's a little late for that, don't you think? I've had to figure everything out on my own. I've had to survive, to fight, to prove myself, all while carrying the weight of your legacy."
Minato reached out, his hand hovering over Naruto's shoulder as if unsure whether to touch him. "I know I can't change the past, Naruto. But I can help you now. You're stronger than you realize, and you have a destiny far greater than anyone could imagine. Let me help you fulfill it."
Naruto stared at his father, his emotions warring within him. Part of him wanted to scream, to lash out at the man who had abandoned him. But another part, a smaller, quieter part, longed for the connection he had been denied his entire life.
Finally, he took a deep breath and nodded. "Fine. But this doesn't mean I forgive you. Not yet."
Minato smiled, a sad but hopeful expression on his face. "I understand. And I'll do everything in my power to earn your trust."
The Kyuubi, watching the exchange with a mix of amusement and curiosity, let out a low chuckle. "Well, this is touching. But let's not forget why we're here. Naruto, you've got questions, and your dear old dad has answers. So, what's it going to be?"
Naruto turned to the Kyuubi, his resolve hardening. "I want to know everything. About the Uzumaki clan, about Konoha, about my parents… and about how I can break free from this prison."
Minato's expression turned serious. "Then let's begin."
As Minato began to explain, Naruto listened intently, his mind racing. He learned about the Uzumaki clan's history, their mastery of sealing techniques, and their tragic downfall. He learned about his mother, Uzumaki Kushina, and her strength, her kindness, and her love for him. And he learned about Minato's own journey, his rise to Hokage, and his fateful decision to seal the Kyuubi within Naruto.
But as the story unfolded, Naruto's anger only grew. "You sacrificed yourself for the village," he said, his voice low and bitter. "But what about me? Did you ever stop to think what your sacrifice would cost me?"
Minato's eyes filled with tears. "I thought… I thought you'd be seen as a hero. I thought the village would honor you, protect you. I never imagined they'd turn on you like this."
Naruto's fists clenched at his sides. "You trusted them too much. You trusted the Third Hokage, the village, everyone but yourself. And because of that, I've spent my entire life paying the price."
Minato bowed his head, his voice barely a whisper. "I'm sorry, Naruto. I failed you."
For a long moment, there was silence. Then Naruto spoke, his voice calm but resolute. "Apologies won't change the past. What's done is done. But I won't let it define my future."
Minato looked up, hope flickering in his eyes. "What will you do?"
Naruto's gaze was steady, his expression unreadable. "I'll become stronger. Strong enough to stand above everyone, to control my own destiny. And if Konoha stands in my way… I'll destroy it."
Minato's breath caught in his throat. "Naruto, you don't mean that. The village—"
"The village betrayed me," Naruto interrupted, his voice cold. "It took everything from me. I owe it nothing."
Minato reached out, his hand trembling. "Naruto, please. Don't let your anger consume you. There's still good in the world, in the village. You can change it, make it better."
Naruto's eyes softened for a moment, but his resolve didn't waver. "Maybe. But I won't do it for the village. I'll do it for myself."
The Kyuubi, watching the exchange with a smirk, let out a low chuckle. "Well, this is getting interesting. Naruto, you've got a fire in you. I like it."
Naruto turned to the Kyuubi, his expression calm. "You're part of this too, Kyuubi. If you want your freedom, you'll help me."
The Kyuubi's grin widened. "Oh, I'll help you, kid. But don't think for a second that I'm doing it out of the goodness of my heart. I've got my own reasons."
Naruto nodded. "Fair enough. As long as we understand each other."
Minato watched the exchange, his heart heavy. He had hoped to guide Naruto, to help him find a path of peace and reconciliation. But now, he realized, his son had already chosen his own path—one that was far darker and more dangerous than he had ever imagined.
"Naruto," Minato said, his voice filled with sorrow. "I may not agree with your methods, but I'll support you. You're my son, and I love you. No matter what happens, I'll always be proud of you."
Naruto's expression softened, just for a moment. "Thank you, Father. But this is my journey now. And I'll walk it my way."
As the conversation ended, Naruto turned and walked away, his mind already racing with plans and possibilities. He had a goal now, a purpose. And nothing—not the village, not his father, not even the Kyuubi—would stand in his way.
He would stand above them all. He would stand in the sky.
