Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Bad News
"How is Lady Leviathan doing in the past five days?"
I look at Luca, who is taking a sip of his whiskey.
"She is exploring the city, boss."
"Is she snooping around?"
"Surprisingly? No. She does not ask anything to fish out some of our secrets or use any magic to dig into the things we don't want to share. The ARIA crew cannot find anything while she is here."
The ARIA or Acquisition, Reconnaissance, Infiltration, and Assassination Crew is a special group that I created that handles information gathering, spying, and assassination. They are a group of people who trained to be the best of the best. They consist of mages, sacred gear users, and flame users.
"I think she truly wants to make an alliance with our family, boss."
"That is good to hear."
"Are you going to accept them as long as they agree not to reincarnate our people into devil, boss?"
"Truthfully? I don't want to make an alliance with them. They have a bad reputation for a reason, you know? Some of them are good people, but the majority of them are people we don't want near our family."
"Then why are you telling her that you will accept the alliance as long as they forbid using their Evil Pieces on our people?"
"Because I know they will not agree to that demand. The Pillar Lords of the Devil Race are people with high pride. They will not agree to that demand just to make an alliance with one of many human factions."
Luca looks at me with a smile and says.
"You use their pride to make sure you create a good first image but, at the same time, create an impossible quest for Lady Leviathan."
I nod and give him a smug smile.
"That's right. We don't want to make an enemy out of them; this is the perfect middle ground. I don't create a bad impression by rejecting them outright and even giving them false hope so they think we are open for alliance."
"That is impressive, boss."
"Thank you. However, we cannot stop there. We need to use this chance to expand our spy network and take from them as much as possible."
"What do you mean?"
"We have a trade agreement with them. That means we can access their goods. We need to see if we can grow or make what they sell in Vindice."
"That is a good idea. However, are you sure we need to do that? They will get angry, no?"
"They are selling what they want to sell. They cannot complain when we manage to recreate what they are making. They will also do the same with our goods, after all."
"That is true."
"And that is the reason why I need you to create a list of which things we can allow them to buy."
"Can we let them buy the bigger machine?"
"No. The smaller and medium machines. Make sure no weapons or ammo are on that list. We don't want them to have their hands in our weaponry."
"I will make sure they do not get them, boss. Do you want to add more to the exception list, boss?"
"Create a list of them, and I will pick which one should not be sold."
"Gotcha."
Before I can say more, the door to my office opens, and I can see Felicia and Martha walking inside my room.
"My lord."
"Lord Vale."
I smile at them and say.
"Take a seat, Martha, Felicia."
When they take a seat, I look at them and say,
"How is it? How is the project doing?"
I send Martha and Felicia to rebuild all the bases the vampire uses. As much as I want them to be destroyed, they are strategically placed, and I decided to use them as new underground facilities, safe houses, and a new city.
Many people want to return to their hometowns where the vampires are taking over. Now their hometown is free from vampires, they want to return and rebuild their hometown. Martha and Felicia are the ones helping them with that.
"We are done with three villages, my lord."
Felicia gives me her tablet, and I read all the reports. After reading through it for a few seconds, I said.
"Among them are some who are Flame Actives, huh?"
"Yes, my lord."
"Do they know the basics?"
"Yes. We make sure all Flame Active know how to control their flame, my lord. We don't want them to burn anything by accident, after all."
"That is good. Are any of them good enough to join the main family?"
"There are three of them who have exceptional control over their flames. Do you want me to approach them, my lord?"
"Yes. However, don't force them. If they want a peaceful life, let them. However, train them more. They will be the defenders of their villages from now on."
"I understand."
I looked at Martha, who gave me a manila folder.
"This is the income report of our energy sales, my lord. It looks like the president wants to increase the energy output. He wants our generator to supply the entire country instead of only the city."
"Perfect. Anything else?"
"Yes. Bran Castle is being rebuilt, and we already informed the president about it. It will soon be reopened to the public once again. We will use that place as research facilities and testing ground for all our new tech."
With the help of the government, we tell the public that the castle is being renovated and closed for a moment. Now, the castle will be public once; this time, it is not a trap the vampires create to lure humans.
"Perfect. Then we can start moving the other things to Bran Castle."
"I already told the Research Team to prepare to move, my lord."
"Good job, Martha. Now let's–"
Before I can say more, the door to my office gets kicked open, and I see Skull look at me seriously.
"Skull?"
"Vale, we have a problem. A massive problem."
I frown and say.
"What is it? What kind of problem makes you look like this?"
He looks at me right in the eyes and says.
"The Carmilla Faction is gone."
"What? What do you mean?"
"I mean it like that. The entire faction is gone. There are no more vampires from the Carmilla Faction. Their territory was left deserted, and they even left their human farms. My team managed to get this from one of the vampires who tried to run away."
I take the paper and read it. I frown a little and release a sigh.
"Boss?"
"The Carmilla Faction is going to a new location to rebuild their number. The paper says nothing but that their queen found someone with whom they will work."
I look at my guardians and say
"And I think I know where they are going or at least which group they are joining."
"You don't mean…"
"Yeah. They will join the devil that rescued Marius Tepes. They will join the Khaos Brigade."
"Fuck."
Yeah. Now, we not only need to worry about the vampires, we also need to worry about the rest of the Khaos Brigade members.
Fucking hell.
