Chapter 19: Chapter 19: The Power of Sorcery
"Riley Robert!"
Lynn's gaze locked firmly on the man before him.
The man had long golden hair, and a slender figure, and bore a striking resemblance to Russell.
However, what put Lynn most on edge was the heavy pressure emanating from Riley.
In his mind, Lynn made an immediate judgment: this man was most likely a third-level wizard apprentice!
Despite this, Lynn showed no signs of panic.
After all, he was currently in the core area of the Furnace, the domain of the Furnace Lord.
In this area, no one dared to cause trouble lightly.
Even a third-level wizard apprentice, or even a full-fledged wizard, would only be courting death if they dared to stir up trouble here.
"Hmph, kid, you've got quite the connections. You even know my name," Riley sneered, his eyes flashing with undisguised malice and killing intent.
If not for the special circumstances of their current location, Lynn was certain that Riley would have attacked him on the spot.
Lynn had realized the moment he received the transfer order from the Alchemy Department that Riley had already set his sights on him.
The war in the Furnace had temporarily kept Riley too busy to come after him, but Lynn knew that the man was a ticking time bomb, bound to strike sooner or later.
Running into Riley in the core area was a good thing.
At least here, Riley couldn't act recklessly.
Moreover, Lynn had finally met his enemy face-to-face, learning his appearance and strength, which would allow him to better prepare for the future.
Their eyes locked, and the air grew tense with suppressed energy.
But Riley knew he couldn't do anything to Lynn here. With a cold laugh, he turned and left with the two others.
Lynn stood still, watching their retreating figures. Though he felt some pressure, it wasn't overwhelming.
Even during peacetime in the Furnace, Riley would have little chance to cause trouble for Lynn in the Herb Garden.
And now, with the war ongoing, it was highly likely that Riley, as a third-level wizard apprentice from the Alchemy Department, would be sent to the front lines.
On the battlefield, there was no guarantee Riley would even survive.
"Still, it's better to be cautious," Lynn thought calmly, his gaze sharpening.
Though he wasn't intimidated by the threat, he knew he needed to quickly measure his spiritual power and sorcery-related data to understand his true strength and establish a clear judgment of his combat capabilities.
Lynn waited quietly in the hall. His identity badge vibrated slightly, signaling that the sorcery testing room he had reserved was ready.
He stood up and walked toward a basic sorcery testing room, pushing the door open and stepping inside.
The door clicked shut behind him, and the walls of the room glowed with a soft light.
The room wasn't spacious, and its walls were covered in intricate runes and ancient sorcery arrays.
In the center stood a dummy, its body pitch black and shimmering faintly.
Not far from the entrance stood a stone tablet emitting a faint glow, inscribed with ancient text.
"The strength of sorcery is directly related to the amount of spiritual energy released."
"The release of sorcery has a basic standard; spiritual energy must meet a minimum threshold to activate it. If it exceeds this standard, additional spiritual energy will further enhance the power of the sorcery."
"The great ancient wizards long ago established a unified energy scale, known as the 'Degree.'"
"One Degree of power is equivalent to the total damage produced by igniting a standard unit of Flame Stone."
Lynn was momentarily stunned as he read the text on the tablet. Flame Stone.
He remembered reading about Flame Stones in a book.
It was an extremely rare energy source, a type of magic stone that originated deep within volcanoes, absorbing the fiery essence of magma over countless years before transforming into its current form.
The unique property of Flame Stones was that once ignited, they exploded like a bomb, capable of causing devastating damage.
Because of this, Flame Stones were not only incredibly valuable but also highly dangerous. Even though they had the properties of a tradable magic stone, few people used them in transactions.
Lynn took a deep breath, quietly pondering this information.
"Attack the dummy with sorcery, and the scale beside it will quantify the power."
Lynn focused on the scale on the tablet, gradually understanding the function and usage of the sorcery testing room.
"My offensive capabilities are limited. Basic zero-circle sorceries like Daze and Breath Control are unlikely to cause significant damage…"
The essence of sorcery lies in the wizard using spiritual energy to harness the energy factors within the world, releasing sorcery to create formidable power.
Spiritual energy acts like a lever, allowing Wizards to pry open the hidden energies of the world and unleash tremendous force.
Pure spiritual energy release often struggles to cause fatal damage unless one has mastered certain special sorceries.
And zero-circle sorceries like Daze didn't fall into that category.
"In seven days, I've only managed to master Fireball. Frost Arrow remains locked…"
Lynn frowned slightly, considering his current situation.
"In that case, I'll use Fireball for the test."
He took a deep breath, focusing his mind. The spiritual energy stored within him surged like a pent-up flood, eager to be unleashed.
Within Lynn's spiritual domain, intense energy fluctuations filled the air.
Aside from the overflowing spiritual energy, he could also clearly sense a warm presence.
It was a seed of life, none other than the Yfgríd his mentor Rosalind had given him.
Now, this seed had undergone subtle changes. Perhaps due to Lynn's constant nurturing, it had gradually grown fuller, emitting faint traces of life energy, as if it had developed a pulse of its own.
Yfgríd sat at the center of Lynn's spiritual domain, shining like a radiant heart.
With its presence as the core, it drew in the surrounding spiritual energy, firmly locking down 80% of the energy within Lynn's spiritual domain.
As a result, Lynn could only use the remaining 20% of his spiritual energy to cast sorceries.
While limited, it was enough for him to attempt some basic sorcery releases.
"At least I don't have to worry about overusing my spiritual energy and passing out, ha…"
Lynn chuckled self-deprecatingly as he felt Yfgríd's domineering presence.
"I hope the release conditions for Fireball can be met with this limited spiritual energy."
Lynn took another deep breath, focusing his mind and quickly mobilizing the remaining 20% of his spiritual energy.
Following the casting method for Fireball, he began to resonate with the fire element factors in the world.
In an instant, an invisible bridge formed between Lynn's consciousness and the external energy, and the fire elements began to gather in response to his call.
At the same time, Lynn's lips moved slightly as he muttered some unique words.
This wasn't the language used in everyday communication but rather Wizard Script.
Wizard Script differed from ordinary language; each word spoken consumed a certain amount of spiritual energy.
Because of this, even wizards rarely used Wizard Script in daily conversations, opting instead for ordinary language.
Wizard Script was a phonetic language, with each word formed by a combination of twenty-four meditation runes closely tied to spiritual energy.
Thus, every word spoken required interaction with these meditation runes, making it quite mentally taxing.
Now, Lynn muttered a few somewhat unfamiliar words though not entirely fluent, they were enough to form the incantation for Fireball.
